+Absit Reverentia Vero my english is not good but i really have to say this. She's just saying that she is inspired by black girls speaking Korean. And that's it, why would you have to react in such a negative way?
but we initially experienced discrimination in sports and music as well - but like much of what we've had to overcome in US ,we excelled in these arenas even with a boot on our neck - because we excelled so well despite the obstacles placed before us - the dominant pop had to reason why that was - their answer = innate to blackness - so it becomes something not based on skill, not based on cunning...

LOL I feel with those guys. I grew up in South Africa and I used get jeers from black people all the time. On streets people passing by would call me "Hey, Jackie Chan", or do a Bruce Lee impersonation on me, or make funny Kung Fu / Karate noises, for no reason at all. :) This would tick me off sometimes. Back then I couldn't understand why the heck an intelligent being would make fun of himself in such a demeaning manner. But now I get it. They'd never met an Asian like me and their only source of knowledge about Asia was those Jackie Chan / Bruce Lee movies. So the media fed them this stereotype that all Asians do martial arts. It's interesting to see that more or less the same thing is happening to those black people living in Korea. :P

Haha a Korean student at my school actually stopped me while I was walking to class and asked why I was always looking angrily at trees and ground. So I told her I was studying Biology as my major and I am always looking hard for some little critter to identify. I never realized I looked angry when I was looking around. She laughed a lot when I told her that. I guess it surprised her that I wasn't angry. She also said I seemed very nice after getting to know me. When I think hard about something I tend to look like I am angry but in reality I am quite shy towards strangers and immerse my self in animals and plants.
hey u and the girl sound like u a thing. Also don't worry bro I'm Asian and my gfs family thought I was pissed during a family trip but it was just my normal face
I think the statement about black people being from different places is ( shoukd be so obvious) but i think people forget.I'm mixed girl living in london and i probably have a completely different life to a girl living in atlanta or germany or whatever. Everyones lives are completely different, why should it then be assumed that all black people are the same.
I am a mixed girl from London too lol - I have been to Seoul twice and regardless of being mixed and from London most of them only know Africa/America for having black/brown people. I once explained to a guy my ethnicity(black & indian Jamaican and white British) and he said "Impossible :-0 ....." looool. I was taken back a little and honestly a little hurt, but then I realized they aren't educated on black or darker complexioned people and people who are mixed race. They(Most) simply don't know the difference.
" impossible " lol what? Once i told this guy my mum was scottish and my dad was nigerian and he was like " oh my god how the hell did THEYY cross paths".. rude 😂
this interviewer seems so nice and kind. Also this video was so hilarious loll and very true. the stereotypes can really get you down so I try to ignore them
I personally (As a Korean-American) think that Black people are great people. They tend to we well-cultured, extremely hospitable, and generally sociable. Musically, culturally, I just think Koreans and Blacks just go well together. I highly recommend more African-Americans or any person of black descent think about moving to Korea. I feel as if they will integrate faster and better than white foreigners and it is pretty obvious they won't experience the systemic "KKK Police War on Drugs" type racism in Korea or even Japan.
I’m a black American female and I returned from Seoul in mid May of 2019 after staying there for two weeks. I absolutely loved it! I took the time to learn some basic Korean, cultural etiquette, and Hangul before I traveled there and had nothing but positive experiences when interacting with Koreans. I was a little caught off guard by the fact that I didn’t have the same positivity from black people when I would encounter them but I just figure I didn’t run into the right black people. I traveled solo and had so much fun! I didn’t get harassed, felt completely safe walking around alone at night, never had anyone following me around in a store (which happens all the time in the USA), etc. People would stare at me and I was typically the only black person in the subway car, or touring various places, in restaurants, etc., but usually the minute I smiled and said hello the stares turned into smiles and greetings, offering help if I was trying to find a location, etc. So my experienced made me realize that to break the stereotype sometimes required that I show that I was friendly and happy (I guess approachable is the word) and after that it seemed like people kept trying to adopt me. I’m talking from the moment I got on the plane to fly to Incheon, throughout my stay in an apartment in Seoul and traveling around the entire city, through the return flight home. Then I got back home and realized how much happier and safer I felt there than back here in the USA. Was kind of sad to realize it.
Actually, it's because of this reason that I'm deciding to move to Korea next year. Despite all of the cons, life in America is much tougher I think for Black people. And I really think Korean and Black people have a similar mindset
@@user-qj7hh5xp8v Honestly, I think historically Koreans would be/are shocked to realize that the black American experience with slavery and the ramifications from that strongly mirror what they experienced during Korea's Japanese occupation. The major difference being that once the occupation ended, they got their country back, versus them being completely uprooted, transported to a foreign land, and then being forced to assimilate and forget their culture for survival. They definitely have that benefit and seeing it and experiencing it in person is both amazing, eye opening, and makes you realize what you actually missed out on in your own history and culture. I had the chance to explain that perspective to some South Koreans and when I did you could see how much that truth hit them because it was something that they could understand and relate to. The idea of what would have happened if they had been taken away, forced to forget or deny and never able to come back. The closest they have to that would be North Koreans that escape to the South, but they at least have the common language. They have different dialect and education, but similar culture, etc. Don't get me wrong, I'm American, and I'm not in la la land. There is no way I'm going to "reconnect" with my root realistically. That genetic testing stuff to identify your tribal roots is a bunch of crap because unless you come from an area that has historically only had a single tribe in it thoughout all time, you can't ever truly identify your roots. Most tribes were nomadic and many would intermarry in an effort to build alliances. Unless you are lucky enough to have a family that managed to hold onto some of that historical knowledge through the generations and pass it on, it's lost. I don't have that benefit. Basically any cultural connection is lost at this point which is sad, but what can be done is to simply embrace what we have and do know and build upon it now to create a future culture and legacy to pass on. Being in South Korea was the one time when I found that people focused less on the color of my skin and more on who I was as a person. I won't lie, once they learned what my profession was, and I only shared it when specifically asked because I know that I don't fit the stereotype of what most people expect a person in my profession to look like or my personality to be like, the respect increased from there because they were surprised I was being so respectful to them when they felt like they were supposed to be more respectful to me. I explained to them no. I'm in your country as a visitor so I have no problem being respectful to you and your culture and just take everything surrounding me in quietly. Definitely go! Embrace the culture, language, people, food and experience. Will there be some not so great people, sure, that's the case in every country. I can honestly say I only ran into not so great people that looked like me. And truthfully I need to keep that thought in check because maybe the black people I saw didn't speak English! Maybe they were African, French, etc., and were unfriendly because they knew they couldn't communicate after hearing me speak English or hangul to someone next to me. See what I mean, just constantly remind yourself to keep an open mind.
milly solis as a Korean...Korean pronounciations/words/grammar is kinda hard for western people to pronounce, and the grammar is the opposite from English, so it might take a while to learn some basic of the language (only my perspective tho😊😊
I'm so glad you made a video on this topic. The questions were well composed. As an expat currently living in Korea, like many others, I hope people watch this video with open ears and minds, and see that we are dynamic, friendly, and interesting as a people. Thank you for making this.
This is actually sad, the white people video had a ton on complaints but overall they didn't have anything to complain about. You can tell by how the videos started off that it was gonna be a different struggle, much like the US.
Im taking my African British boyfriend for the first time to South Korea, watching this video gives me an idea what i should expect although i just want him to have only good impressions and experiences of the country . Fingers cross, thanks for the videos!
@Black To Grace actually a lot of my African friends identify themselves with "African" in their title. "African American" "African Canadian" "African German". Though most people are unused to/uneducated on anything that's not "African American" which in itself is incorrect to say unless youre referring to a person born, or descendent of parents from Africa who live in America.
i love this vedio. Having diversity is always a good thing. I wish stereotypes or biases against any race or ethnic group would disappear in Korea.
I really like this video. You interviewed some smart people. The girl with the bow was my favorite. I was glad to see you touched on some topics pertaining to us, although it only scratched the surface. But yes the negative, narrow minded, pigeonholed view of Blacks in Korea (and all around the world even) holds me back from wanting to travel and integrate with other cultures.
In France, there are stereotypes too but it's more like "All black people like chicken" "all black people know how to be good vibes" ("tous les noirs savent s'ambiancer, ils s'ambiancent sur tout !") etc etc.... And all black people are intimitading Like, hey, I'm black, I don't sing bc I suck ass at that, I'm black and I'm super shy so who's gonna start a party over anything, I'm black and I don't get angry... Ok, a little bit but it's because people irritate me, that's how I am, etc but NOT all black are like that We don't all dance like Beyoncé, we don't all sing like Steve Wonder, and we don't easily get mad... But, there's a nice thing I really like about all of this, it's that in France, all of these stereotypes became more like humour like my friends would tell "Nice, let's make a remix for the philosophy lesson bc it sucks and since you're black, you know you can do that" or "Hey, why aren't you dancing... I mean come on Nice, you're black"... And we do it with arabs as well, portugeses, chineses, americans, gays, muslims... Everyone. Because that's just how our generation decided to deal with these stereotypes. I really believe that in Korean, soon enough, it will be the same... We just need them to get use of foreiners, being black or not, because even if they're getting use to us, they still have their ways Bref, fallait que je parles mddrr (sorry for my bad english, I'm french as you saw it lol all the love)
I agree, I live in Europe and I think race is less of an issue here. People can joke about it more, but in America it's something that's really deep emotionally, and people are very sensitive about.
It's always weird how everyone seems to forget that Blk ppl seem ~naturally~ good at (popular) music/dance bc they're our cultural products/heritage. We (the communities) literally created it and lots of us are raised with it from the womb, hence the rhythm/"groove"
Yeah, as a community, we're "born with it" bc we create it, but, as individuals, it's still up in the air. I just think we tend to be better at knowing what we're not good at and avoiding putting that on display lol
Jeannette Bulambo lmfaooo you even admitted your fetishism towards east asian/korean men stems all from kpop. Good luck finding your "korean" man you bald headed fetishist. pmsl
This video is so awesome!! A lot a people can sweep taking about race under the rug, because it uncomfortable, but we need people who aren't afraid to ask questions (in a non-offensive tone and/or way). Ignorance, the lack of understanding, and the lack of communication breeds stereotypes and discrimination. Thank you for this video!!
I really couldn't stop laughing at the penis question, usually in interviews there is no such question but I loved that there was because it was entertaining to see their reactions ans answers. Also that lady with the bow headband was hilarious, she has a fun personality.
christian bradley 나도 그래 ~ I see absolutely no differences. People freak out when I say aside from the local delicacies, I basically grew up eating Korean food too. Trade the seaweed for collards or kale. And Seoul? Basically, NYC (Queens). I didn’t experience any racism or discrimination until I tried to do business in Korean HipHop. 🙄 Other than that, I’m happy with my 3 year business relationship with Korea.
I think one of the reason why most of koreans have a lot of stubborn stereotypes for black is that we had not been educated about racism or understanding towards various races enough because we were like "단일민족". I think our government need to make some curriculums about racism in Korea. We are not anymore "단일민족".
As a channel that does offer videos that discuss Korean culture, I think these videos are important. These topics delve into problematic issues and come to solutions. Instead of making a video that points out bad aspects of Korean society, your videos offer solutions to solve these problems. I really believe that you will be successful, Heechulism.
희철님 비디오 잘 시청하고 있습니다 특히 제가 평소에 관심있는 블랙에 관한 좋은 영상 보고 많은 걸 느끼고 얻어갑니다 감사합니다 also i would like to say to black ppl in korea some Koreans are able to judge you just because of skin color, but not all of Korean. so don't be disappointed probably if i have a chance for meet to someone i would like to say hi how r u doing something like that. i hope you guys doing well :)
Thank you for sharing this video. I think any opportunity to break barriers and increase awareness about another culture is a wonderful thing. I am a Black woman who is studying Korean because I appreciate the culture and love the language. Asking questions and having an open mind is vital to reducing racism. As human beings, we have far more in common than we have differences.
Hey, this was uploaded on my bday but, OMG THERE NEEDS TO BE A PART 2 ABOUT KOREAN PEOPLE WALKING UP TO US AND TOUCHING OUR HAIR WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION!!!
+melrose anomyme there's an american youtuber "whitneybae" who speaks Korean quite well and she lives in Korea ~~ quite interesting if you're looking for foreign youtubers ^^
it surprised me about the video of the fight in itaewon. The part that surprised me was that people from other countries came to Korea and broke out a big fight. This is to every country and race. I think that if u go to another country u should respect it and try to behave ur self. Correct me if im wrong cuz that was what I thought during that part
I'm glad pages like this exist to educate because black people get a very bad wrap and we are always forever apologizing for our skin and what some bad black people do. that girl was funny at the end I wonder what they had to eat.
black girls speaking korea is inspiring to me!!

I believe the world is hung up on skin tone
honestly
Colorism isnt far from racism and is just as bad
True but thankfully that's starting to change.
Change as in 0.0001% but I guess that's something?
It's not just skin tone, but also hair.
I loved everything EACh person said

im black from caraibes and i love asian especially korean^^
I hope so too
I'm black and I really love Korean culture especially the Joseon period and the cultural dresses. So I would really love to visit Korea and learn more about it and I also love kpop and kdramas too. But when people generalise it puts me off sometimes. I think people shouldn't judge a whole people because of the pigment in their skin
You may have a different experience, so go for it. It is a lesson to reach for patience when people wrongly generalize based on stereotypes.
I agree.
They're not judging you by the pigment of your skin, they're doing it by what they see the people of your skin color do, their actions.
Marky Mark Don’t use statistics as that still represents a minority of the race. And even then it’s just their crimes are more scrutinised in media like the big fight in Korea ,people should not base their opinions on media anyway. It just causes a lot of unnecessary hurt.

+PRC Pree Korean people really do not know nothing about people out of Korea
The only countries they know is America and North Korea
" impossible " lol what? Once i told this guy my mum was scottish and my dad was nigerian and he was like " oh my god how the hell did THEYY cross paths".. rude 😂
Palesa Esuk Oh my gosh😂😂😂 I know that feeling.... it's like well what do you want me to say to that 🙈... lol
jaida omar Yeah I know 😂 And most have an obsession with LA for some reason... well at least that was my experience lol

Umm can we kinda keep this stereotype that all blacks are good at dancing and singing like fr some of us need that😂😂😭😭😭
Parker_xo 😂😂Lol
Parker_xo yeah that one isn't bad 😂😂😂😂😂
I think that's not so bad either
It's a positive stereotype.
this interviewer seems so nice and kind.
"i've seen plenty of koreans bigger than me" I laughed so hard and I don't even know why hahahahahahaha.
He probably went to....Korean spa....that's what I assume.
+Taemin michael Kim
I WANNA KNOW HOW LONG IT TOOK HER TO LEARN KOREAN BECAUSE I WANNA LEARN IT
milly solis as a Korean...Korean pronounciations/words/grammar is kinda hard for western people to pronounce, and the grammar is the opposite from English, so it might take a while to learn some basic of the language (only my perspective tho😊😊
milly solis honestly once you learn the vowels and such, your good to go. I'm currently learning myself and it's really not that hard at all
ciara spark are you going to school for it?
how about indians whose pronunciation of words is similar
if you want to learn something then do it by now you should already have some good foundations since its been a year
I'm so glad you made a video on this topic. The questions were well composed. As an expat currently living in Korea, like many others, I hope people watch this video with open ears and minds, and see that we are dynamic, friendly, and interesting as a people. Thank you for making this.
It was so amazing to be a part of this video. Thank you Heechul for helping us have our voices heard.
+Tyrell Redding Thanks for participating in this project 태웅 :) We're going to meet soon after your traveling on Japan!
I am Korean and I love black bro and sis. cheers.
I am black and love koreans
do you refer to whites as "white bro and white sis"? "indian bro and indian sis"? "latino bro and latino sis"? sounds weird right?
denzhe singo agree to you. I'm korean and when I first saw that 'bro and sis' thing, I was shocked. I feel sorry for that rude korean ediot :(
Won Cheol LEE
Please don’t refer black people as black sisters and brothers. Thank you for your nice comment but that phrase is not okay to use
This is actually sad, the white people video had a ton on complaints but overall they didn't have anything to complain about. You can tell by how the videos started off that it was gonna be a different struggle, much like the US.
Anti-Blackness is a very real thing within Asian communities. It's crucial to have a discussion on this matter. Thanks for the making the video!
+Ujin Kim Thank you too !
i died on mr chu lol so funny loved the video
lol the ending
I couldn't handle it 😂 it was so bad but so cute lol
+Citaah Yeah DX Mr Chu is my favourite song from APink DX she had me dying though dx
Im taking my African British boyfriend for the first time to South Korea, watching this video gives me an idea what i should expect although i just want him to have only good impressions and experiences of the country . Fingers cross, thanks for the videos!
Good luck
@Black To Grace actually a lot of my African friends identify themselves with "African" in their title. "African American" "African Canadian" "African German". Though most people are unused to/uneducated on anything that's not "African American" which in itself is incorrect to say unless youre referring to a person born, or descendent of parents from Africa who live in America.
I'm asian (Indonesian) I'm really love Black people. I like their style. And they are Kindness too 😊

i love this vedio. Having diversity is always a good thing. I wish stereotypes or biases against any race or ethnic group would disappear in Korea.

I'm korean. I love black people!!
I'm black girl thanks, I love korean culture and korean people.
To the last young lady, with the bow in her hair. You are very interesting. We should be friends!!
That guy with the yellow beanie was fine af though not gonna lie 😍😩🙏🏽

Oml he issssssss~~
Ayee! The lady with the bow! I'm from Chicago too!! Ayee!😂
Ayeeee wassap me too
Do u know Chief Keef?
Me too
great topic, very original as a Korean RUclipsr
+Miya Payne Thank you ! :)
And all black people are intimitading
Like, hey, I'm black, I don't sing bc I suck ass at that, I'm black and I'm super shy so who's gonna start a party over anything, I'm black and I don't get angry... Ok, a little bit but it's because people irritate me, that's how I am, etc but NOT all black are like that
We don't all dance like Beyoncé, we don't all sing like Steve Wonder, and we don't easily get mad...
We just need them to get use of foreiners, being black or not, because even if they're getting use to us, they still have their ways
Bref, fallait que je parles mddrr
(sorry for my bad english, I'm french as you saw it lol all the love)
MIN TAEJIN you are awesome. 😊
StOneD SoDa 😊
ThoA45 C'est exactement ça
Naire Karakuja Thank you ! I was doubting myself lol 😊
We (the communities) literally created it and lots of us are raised with it from the womb, hence the rhythm/"groove"
not all of us x.x
Yeah, as a community, we're "born with it" bc we create it, but, as individuals, it's still up in the air. I just think we tend to be better at knowing what we're not good at and avoiding putting that on display lol
I think that's more of a suitable generalisation for African Americans to be honest, but it's certainly true.
Orange Pepe wants a hug Must be why I was confused, I'm french
+someone you might know
+Scott Bae
Heechul is sooo cute, he offered to get the girl who sang Mr.Chu something that she likes to eat. I wanna be his friend.
Black ppl are my favorite ppl in the world
I'm arabic tbh xD
Jeannette Bulambo the sole reason you want an Asian man is because of kpop? Sad.
+Jeannette Bulambo sure thing, fetishist.
Jeannette Bulambo lmfaooo you even admitted your fetishism towards east asian/korean men stems all from kpop. Good luck finding your "korean" man you bald headed fetishist. pmsl
Jeannette Bulambo you will end up alone. or with a man that fetishizes you as much as you fetishize him. so its whatever alopecia.
Also that lady with the bow headband was hilarious, she has a fun personality.
if you actually get to know koreans, you will be surprised how similar they are with black people.
Master Try I agree with you. especially with the African culture
That's actually very true, i have noticed that as well, especially when it come to things like respect for people older than you etc.
I've been saying that for a LONG-TIMEEE!!! No one ever seems to realize it but it's really true. I hope one day more people get to see that.
christian bradley 나도 그래 ~ I see absolutely no differences.
I really believe that you will be successful, Heechulism.
also i would like to say to black ppl in korea
some Koreans are able to judge you just because of skin color, but not all of Korean.
so don't be disappointed
probably if i have a chance for meet to someone i would like to say hi how r u doing something like that.
i hope you guys doing well :)
Thank you!!^^
Is so cute how the interviewer clicked with the girl singing me chu
i love the last part when they became friends so cute!!!
I smiled a lot while watching this video!! Great topic :) !!
This channel promote peace, thank u so much for sharing. Send u lots of love from Indonesia 🇮🇩😇
The girl at the end, her personality is so good T_T I want to meet her
웬만하면 편견을 가지지 않으려고 하지만, 이 영상 속에 희철님이 하신 질문들이 생각해보니 정말 제가 은연중에라도 가지고 있던 편견들이라서.. 좀 반성했어요^^;;
Nobody should be judge of their skin colour. You come up with really nice content which people needs to be aware of👍
Thank you for sharing this video. I think any opportunity to break barriers and increase awareness about another culture is a wonderful thing. I am a Black woman who is studying Korean because I appreciate the culture and love the language. Asking questions and having an open mind is vital to reducing racism. As human beings, we have far more in common than we have differences.
keep going bro, well done, this is what media needs to do.
When she sang mr chu I laughed so much
same lolll
This video makes me so happy.
Hey, this was uploaded on my bday but, OMG THERE NEEDS TO BE A PART 2 ABOUT KOREAN PEOPLE WALKING UP TO US AND TOUCHING OUR HAIR WITHOUT OUR PERMISSION!!!

That woman wearing the pink scarf is hella funny!
Awesome people. The girl with the long braids, was she born in Korea? Her voice and tone sound so perfect in Korean. I'm blown away!
no she is french but her korean is so good (pround of her) ^^
+Marco. Lawson
ohh really ^^,how you know that? she have a RUclips channel? I'm also a black french girl so I'm really curious about her kk
+melrose anomyme she is my little cousin :-) don't think that she have one...
+Marco. Lawson
Ah okay thanks for your answer^^,because I looking for french RUclipsr who live in Korea... (woaa she talk like a Korean :D )
I'm not saying your wrong I completely agree, but neither of us know what happened at itaewon
Hyunkyung Lee this is true i agree with you i apologize for them my friend ☺✌
I'm glad pages like this exist to educate because black people get a very bad wrap and we are always forever apologizing for our skin and what some bad black people do. that girl was funny at the end I wonder what they had to eat.
