The fact that she split herself into a kid version and an adult version is really sad. People with trauma tend to burry their neglected child-self along with the past, which causes greater harm. Not to mention DID which separates the two completely - child alters of people with DID tend to appear because the brain needs to catch up on the childhood lost to trauma. Sabrina also turned people into dolls because she wanted them to stay for good, likely because people used to leave her because if her powers and such. I'm so glad Haunter is there to help her now, it's very sweet!
Sabrina was certainly the scariest gym leader Ash & friends came across, given how she was divided into her "adult" self who was very serious/scary and the "little girl" version of herself. Though only got a hell of a lot scarier when she invoked her psychic abilities via trying to crush them & turned Brock/Misty into dolls.
For the one who follow Pokémon since OG series, I could say that Ash continuously developed (not appearance) but kinda slow which ironically like a Magikarp life.
This was the worst of his pity badges. Because he would have beaten Erica and Misty whom both gave him badges for saving the gym so I thought those two pity badges he would have won anyways. However against Sabrina I didn’t think he would have ever beaten her.
@@jeremykrause9443He would have even if he didn't choose to verse her before Erika and Koga. That's why Ash was losing so badly since she is actually the 6th gym leader. It makes sense for Kadabra to be way stronger than Pikachu at this point. Pikachu during the 7th gym was definitely more powerful.
The anime writers really missed the opportunity to show her in the gen 5 anime, considering she appears in the pokestar studios in both the games & manga. She could even have an arch after that where she travels with Ash while dealing with the consequences of her actions plus her personality disorder.
Not to mention that Gen 5 revealed that Sabrina SOMEHOW obtained a f**king MEWTWO as one of her Pokemon. No doubt it now has a hand in helping her control her psychic powers
@DB8495 Does it look like I know? The games move forward in time with each generation, so maybe another one was made somewhere else. Or maybe Red released it since we never even see him use it in the games.
Sabrina's arc was my introduction to pokemon anime. Back then the series world felt more alive, less tied to the game mechanics. Also it was really dark sometimes. A Human ghost from a legend that was also a Ghastly, Ash's soul getting taken away from his body, criminal factions conducing cloning experiments on Pokemon AND people. Everything happening on a world where 10 year olds travel around alone in forests, even starving at some points.
Sabrina was the reason why I fell in love with Psychic Pokemon and Kadabra being my favorite pokemon I can also remember dominating my friends in pokemon Red and Blue versions playing with a psychic team I want to see more of Sabrina for sure

Sabrina was definitely my favorite Indigo League Gym Leader back in Season 1. Her story had such creativity around it with how unique it was. Like season 1 Pokemon legit gave a lot of Gym Leaders some of the best storylines, Sabrina's definitely being the best. Now I feel like newer seasons legit lacked that creativity when they handled Gym Leaders. Also the way they handled Gym Leaders appearances was really great too, unique, as they didn't base them completely off the ingame sprites or artwork provided by the games at the time. Brock, Misty, Erika and Sabrina being good examples considering Erika didn't wear a kimono and had full head of blue hair, Sabrina had green hair and a different hairstyle, etc. Sabrina also made a cameo in Pokemon Journeys as a silhouette in Destination: Coronation! (airing March 22, 2020 in Japan). It looks like her appearance from that silhouette is based on her Fire Red/Leaf Green design, which is not surprising since Erika reappeared in her Fire Red/Leaf Green design (losing the originality her original anime design had). However, if SHE did reappear, I want them to use her Lets Go design, because it's legit the closest thing we'll get to a newer design that's like her anime appearance back in 1997. I know they won't do so, but also if she did make an reappearance in the anime, I know it won't be as good as it was back in Season 1, but it would be nice to see her again and see how she turned out from the whole arc she got in season 1.

Sabrina is definitely one of the most scariest trainers in all of Pokémon. But definitely one of the coolest. Awesome video for Spooky Season! Loved the editing on this and it would definitely be great if Sabrina made another appearance again.
These were my personal favourite episodes as a kid. They felt like they had more to say and teach than most pokemon episodes (and they did) and what I loved most about them was how they showed that pokemon really wasn't all about animal fight rings. The connection between trainer and their pokemon is a big theme in this one for both Ash and Sabrina and the fact that Ash made it out of the gym by not winning through force, but (accidental?) compassion blew my mind as a kid. The fact that Sabrina and her pokemon shared such a strong connection also spoke to me and psychic-types became my favourites from here on out all the way to today. These episodes really were dark, but they're the perfect background for the bright and hopeful lessons they try to teach the viewers. True GOAT episodes for me.
I gotta admit the episodes that Sabrina were in had some pretty creepy & weird Moments! I remember that too. Also I’m all caught up with all of your videos professor! You know I gotta watch em all! “Right?” 😁
I know this is a super late reply professor S, my Pokémon teacher. But thanks to the story and battle record of hers, Sabrina is one of my favourite characters from pokemon, along with anime and fiction as a whole. Especially even more thanks to her English dub voice who follows me on my insta and is one of the many role-models I am thankful to have in life, besides you and many others of course.
This was one of the very first episodes I have ever seen of Pokemon: Indigo League. I saw it at my mom's friend's house around (I think) Halloween time in the early 2000s. Many years later I am looking for it wondering: "where is that odd episode where Ash and his friends went into a doll house?" So, 20 years later I'm watching this at home not realizing that this was the very episode with the doll house, Brock trying to eat a fake cake, etc. When that scene came up I was shocked and very excited that I finally found it after 20+years! Best night ever!
Wow fantastic editing work, love the tone. I really do hope we see Sabrina again one day, I never really thought about how terrifying of a character she really is. Awesome 👌
Psychic Types has always been the most OP typing in Gen 1 but I think Sabrina and Mewtwo embodies that to a whole new level when it comes to the anime. The atmosphere in Saffron City is massively different when you compare it to the other Gyms Ash has been to and I think Sabrina’s the only one given a dark past. I love how you appropriately chosen to research her on the month of Halloween. Very fitting, Professor!
This was terrifying as a kid, and even still as an adult this arc still gives me a creepy vibe! But it is a lot of fun, and if recollection serves correctly, this was also one of the badges Gary didn't get! I think that shows her power, seeing as he got so many badges in Kanto!
Surprisingly, Akiza Izinski from Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s has a similar backstory as Sabrina. In Akiza’s case, she could bring her cards to life due to being a Psychic Duelist. Both of them struggled in the darkness, but both eventually found the light at the end of the tunnel. Sabrina reunited with her family through Haunter’s humor, while Yusei dueled Akiza, eventually making a breakthrough and reuniting her with her family. The two of them could practically be sisters of the mind (or “psychic sisters” as the case might be).
Sabrina has always been one of my favourite pokemon characters in the anime- I hope she returns some day. Also, I didn't think she punished her disciple for bringing Ash to her without her permission, I thought it was because he made that comment about why he shouldn't waste her time battling him- she punished him for trying to decide for her who she should and shouldn't battle.
Psychic and Ghost types are the strongest when applied with logic.. oh trying to hit Gengar? he can just turn invisible or phase through attacks.. trying to attack Alakazam? Sorry but he can teleport or blink Dragon Ball style and can burst your brains out or levitate you useless like the way Blue knocked out Lorelie's Lapras from Pokémon: Journeys? I forgot but it's here on RUclips.
Great video! You should do some of these videos on the Pokémon Adventures/Special manga characters. They’re the best adaptions in my opinion especially Sabrina/Lance/Giovanni etc.
I think Sabrina is a top candidate for a Hyper Class battle. She's already very strong and I'd love to see her tango with a more experienced Ash. I see the battle as a 3v3 with Ash using Pikachu, Dracovish and Gengar and Sabrina using Mr. Mime, Alakazam and Gengar (her evolved Haunter. Mr. Mime could start out with the screens only for her to switch to her other to Pokemon for offense and the now added bulk. We could even get a mirror match between the Gengar Ash could've had and the Gengar he has now. Sounds pretty epic.
I have some facts. In the Trading card game in the gym leaders set there are some of Sabrina's. and there are some new Pokémon we have not seen her use. Like jynx, Venonat, Drowzee, Hypno, Slowpoke, and Golduck. I don't know how cannon this is but I would consider it to be.
Sabrina was my first crush as a kid - I was maybe 7 and would obsessively watch my VHS tape of Abra and the Psychic Showdown. I admired Sabrina so deeply that I drank household chemicals in the hopes of finding some magical combination of them that would make me psychic, just like her (it didn't work, but I didn't need my stomach pumped either, so perhaps it went as it could have). Nowadays I study psychoanalysis, and it's fascinating in hindsight that I was so drawn to Sabrina. The splitting of personality into a repressed lonely half and a cruel half that is exposed to the world describes my own mental structure and that of my mother. The transforming of the mother into something dead and inaccessible (the doll) buried deep within the lonely half's mind that the cruel half can't acknowledge (a "dead mother complex", in psychoanalytic jargon) fits perfectly. Then I watch this video and it all comes together - but rather than admiring Sabrina, I wish I could be there for her. This video even came out on my birthday. What a wild coincidence.
Pretty cool way to start class professor. That always got me on how ash "won" by using a pokemon that he didn't even own. Unofficial pokemon. That's the way to go. That always baffled me even today during class
Sabrina is a psychic monster alongside Caitlin and Olympia. I like to think that she is genuinely friendly and easy going now but should you piss her off then horrors will come. Her Haunter is probably a Gengar now and we all know how terrifying those Psychic and ghost types can be. I also would love for her to use her Venomoth. It is the most standout member of her team due to not being a ghost or psychic type and must have immense psychic powers to be on Sabrina's team.
@@ProfessorAlexSilver it’d be spooky if she did but on the flip side maybe haunter kept helping Sabrina’s father with her forming bonds along with her training and might even have helped possibly get a mega stone for kadabra if it evolved and I have the feeling both kadabra and haunter evolved and are serious in battle but with haunter keeping its joker personality so to speak and help Sabrina figure out counters to ghost type specialists like Agatha
It just occurred to me that noone ever blamed Ash for all that and this is great. His friends could have accused him of endangering them by not heeding to warnings and facing Sabrina more than once but they never did. They could have ditched him. However noone could have known all that would happen. So it wasnt even mentioned and they continued their way. It might be strange to write this but it just made me think of what true friendship is. If you don't blame your friends for something they couldnt have predicted, they shouldn't blame you either. Blaming and guilt dont have place in healthy friendships.
She was my first fictional crush I wonder what that says about me. Regardeless, Sabrina is why i love esoteric stuff that others may find weird like ESP, spirituality, and psychic stuff.
I remember this episode, got scared when playing heartgold, added Tyranitar, Houndoom, and Gengar to my team, and got destroyed. Not a doll yet, still waiting.
It would have been great in Journeys to see a proper rematch between her and Ash. With Sabrina bringing her HG/SS team and maybe even having Alakazam mega evolving as a surprise twist. Have Gengar interact with Haunter as well.
This episode petrified me as a kid i had nightmares after this episode it was way too shady for a kid in 2000s back then we weren’t as smart as kids these days are lol😅
It's kinda curious how things would be if she decided to evolve Haunter. Would it keep her grounded with its comedic ways or would she revert back to how she was before?
I think it's widely understood that Ash didn't physically catch it, but much like Larvitar, I'd still consider Haunter Ash's Pokemon in an honorary capacity
I wish Sabrina reappeared in the anime she was one of the best Gym leaders. It was during the time Ash hadn't really earned a lot of his badges by battling but Ash saved Sabrina from herself so it would've been nice to have them meet again.

This is probably one of the most underrated channels .
Love the videos 👍🏻❤️
Thanks!!! Labor of love :)
I gotta admit the episodes that Sabrina were in had some pretty creepy & weird Moments! I remember that too. Also I’m all caught up with all of your videos professor! You know I gotta watch em all! “Right?” 😁
Right, indeed :) Awesome to hear that
I will always enjoy the vids. Alex, You're one of my favorite RUclipsrs! My next major battles will be in Koga's gym.
Thanks David! This one is one of my favorites, good luck!
Sabrina facing Mewtwo one day would be awesome! 🔥😌
Heck yeah it would!
Lisa Ortiz?
Sabrina was the first anime girl that made a lot of us go "I can fix her!"
Awesome 👌
Thanks! My partner crushed it on this one. We both love horror so this was a really fun one for us to tackle.
It is confirmed that Ash will fight her in Hyper Class.
I remember I absolutely LOVED Sabrina and just the three episodes surrounding her and Ash defeating her when I was little.
Thanks! Sabrina reminded me a lot of Phoenix as a character.
ending was awesome bro :D
Thanks!! We had lots of fun with it :)
Man I was waiting for this! Thanks Professor! And You should do the intro you did on a video if you post one on Halloween!
I just may ;)
@@ProfessorAlexSilver Yup!
This was terrifying as a kid, and even still as an adult this arc still gives me a creepy vibe! But it is a lot of fun, and if recollection serves correctly, this was also one of the badges Gary didn't get! I think that shows her power, seeing as he got so many badges in Kanto!
I'd love to see who actually beat her haha. No way Ritchie did
Could used his Scyther back then (In jhoto he got Siczor)
Professor these days you are bringing everything out of my box😂
Hope that's a good thing!
That photographer sure did help Ash get that badge!
hahaha
Tbh,I would like to see characters more than their Pokemon
That's good, because I'm planning to do at least one character per month going forward
....Aight. I can't be the only person who had a crush on Sabrina as a kid, right?
I’m gonna admit this was one of the weirdest episodes I’ve seen also how was you’re day silver?
Haha, had to do something fun for October! Going well, thanks.
Y’all, Professor Silver has no business looking this good 🔥
ha thanks!
I loved this episode I remember this one now 😊❤ miss those days
Sabrina has always been one of my favourite pokemon characters in the anime- I hope she returns some day.
Also, I didn't think she punished her disciple for bringing Ash to her without her permission, I thought it was because he made that comment about why he shouldn't waste her time battling him- she punished him for trying to decide for her who she should and shouldn't battle.
I'd love to see her come back. Definitely my favorite gym leader
I was afraid this would definitely happen to me in real life, but also I kinda like it
Psychic and Ghost types are the strongest when applied with logic.. oh trying to hit Gengar? he can just turn invisible or phase through attacks.. trying to attack Alakazam? Sorry but he can teleport or blink Dragon Ball style and can burst your brains out or levitate you useless like the way Blue knocked out Lorelie's Lapras from Pokémon: Journeys? I forgot but it's here on RUclips.
Psychics & Ghosts are always powerful in the series :)
It’s generacións
Great video! You should do some of these videos on the Pokémon Adventures/Special manga characters. They’re the best adaptions in my opinion especially Sabrina/Lance/Giovanni etc.
Definitely in the plans!
Sabrina and her doll used to freak me out as a kid
They still do for me haha
I found a way to counter those scary memories.
So did the Indigo League just say hey you’re a complete menace to society and definitely a psychopath, wanna be a gym leader?
I think Sabrina is a top candidate for a Hyper Class battle. She's already very strong and I'd love to see her tango with a more experienced Ash. I see the battle as a 3v3 with Ash using Pikachu, Dracovish and Gengar and Sabrina using Mr. Mime, Alakazam and Gengar (her evolved Haunter. Mr. Mime could start out with the screens only for her to switch to her other to Pokemon for offense and the now added bulk. We could even get a mirror match between the Gengar Ash could've had and the Gengar he has now. Sounds pretty epic.
I think she'd be a perfect fit as well. Would definitely be a great addition to her story
I think we will find out she really in Hyper class after Ash defeat Beas.
Dracovish tied with Mr.Mime
Pikachu defeat Mega Alakazam
Gengar defeat Pikachu
Gigantamax Gengar vs Gigantamax Gengar
I forgot how dark pokemon was at times back in the old days 😂
I have some facts. In the Trading card game in the gym leaders set there are some of Sabrina's. and there are some new Pokémon we have not seen her use. Like jynx, Venonat, Drowzee, Hypno, Slowpoke, and Golduck. I don't know how cannon this is but I would consider it to be.
All cool pokemon for her
Looking back all these years later, I think Sabrina awoke something in me as a child and I've been her simp ever since.... o.o
Time to start crushing on the live action girls XD
@@ProfessorAlexSilver that's the problem, prof: My real life crushes are always mommy goth dom's like her ☠️☠️☠️☠️ halp.
Happy belated birthday!
Wild. Happy Birthday
Great video! It had some great spooky Halloween vibes.
Thanks! I'm a big halloween fan
Haunter is so powerful that he wons without even fighting xd😂😂😂
I wish someone uploaded the VCR version of this episode. There were so many other nostalgic bits in it.
_📼_
Pretty cool way to start class professor. That always got me on how ash "won" by using a pokemon that he didn't even own. Unofficial pokemon. That's the way to go. That always baffled me even today during class
I wish he owned Haunter
Atleast he now has a Gengar in the Journeys anime but it’s a shame how bad it is treated in appearances and battles.
that episode scared me as a kid 😭
Sabrina is a psychic monster alongside Caitlin and Olympia. I like to think that she is genuinely friendly and easy going now but should you piss her off then horrors will come. Her Haunter is probably a Gengar now and we all know how terrifying those Psychic and ghost types can be. I also would love for her to use her Venomoth. It is the most standout member of her team due to not being a ghost or psychic type and must have immense psychic powers to be on Sabrina's team.
Venomoth could be quite cool!
Ash was most likely her first gym opponent since she started with an unevolved Abra that only knows teleport.
I’ve honestly been wondering if Sabrina still honed her skills after being “bested” by the haunter that traveled with ash and how much she changed
I'd love to know also! Perhaps she defeated Haunter and returned to evil?
@@ProfessorAlexSilver it’d be spooky if she did but on the flip side maybe haunter kept helping Sabrina’s father with her forming bonds along with her training and might even have helped possibly get a mega stone for kadabra if it evolved and I have the feeling both kadabra and haunter evolved and are serious in battle but with haunter keeping its joker personality so to speak and help Sabrina figure out counters to ghost type specialists like Agatha
@@ashhikari626 I think Agatha is a poison type specialist because she has a Golbat too and her Ghosts Pokemons are Poison type too
I always found her to be an interesting character but it's never explained why she has Supernatural powers
Hmm, good point, Ash is the root of their sorrow haha
Kinda makes me wonder how did everyone else survived the gym. Sabrina seems so OP that no1 should have been able to win over her.
Ahh! I loved the old episodes! They never do anything this scary/creepy anymore
Ash's Gengar definitely felt more lighthearted than creepy
Hey, it's that Gym Leader that _N E E D S_ to be brought back in Journey for more/better development.
100%!!!
I watched this episode so many times lol 😂 it’s just so good 😊!!!
Thanks!!! This is one of my favorites on the channel
She was my first fictional crush I wonder what that says about me.
Regardeless, Sabrina is why i love esoteric stuff that others may find weird like ESP, spirituality, and psychic stuff.
She’s such a fascinating character… and her hair, eyes, and legs are so beautiful.
OG Sabrina always reminded me of Sailor Mars. In addition to both of them being psychics.
I'll have to check her out!
This was the most scariest episode of Pokemon from my childhood
I hear that a lot lol
I don’t know… I feel like the sinking of the st Anne and the attack of the gyrados might be a close one to it. But as far as a character, for sure.
All this power and she just sits in a chair in a gym 😂
That's why I'd love to see what she's been doing since then, she has so much potential
Haunter, a literal ghost type pokemon made that episode less scary and more funny. lt was crazy.
I remember this episode, got scared when playing heartgold, added Tyranitar, Houndoom, and Gengar to my team, and got destroyed. Not a doll yet, still waiting.
Perhaps, it like Candy Man? Just need to lose 4 more times haha
@@ProfessorAlexSilver If I don't co,e back, take care of my pokemon.
This is so good
I would love Sabrina to be in the hyper class and have a rematch with ash, she could even be master class in my eyes of volkner is hyper class
That would be so dope!
That last part is very debatable XD
Ngl Sabrina horrified me as a child 😭 I noticed her terrifying history and had nightmares of Sabrina
She is quite spooky XD
It's kinda curious how things would be if she decided to evolve Haunter. Would it keep her grounded with its comedic ways or would she revert back to how she was before?
As long as haunter kept its personality, I think she'd be good :)
I think she will stay good thanks to her friendship with haunter.
6:08 her surprised look on her face
Haunter has quite the effect!
i like how people are still saying ash owns that haunter despite the fact ash has a gengar in journeys its evolved form
I think it's widely understood that Ash didn't physically catch it, but much like Larvitar, I'd still consider Haunter Ash's Pokemon in an honorary capacity
No, he gave it to Sabrina
I wish Sabrina reappeared in the anime she was one of the best Gym leaders. It was during the time Ash hadn't really earned a lot of his badges by battling but Ash saved Sabrina from herself so it would've been nice to have them meet again.
I wonder what Sabrina up too I hope we see her in journeys to so she can have an official battle with ash again in the future
Let's hope! I'd love to see Ash earn the Marsh badge for real.
What does marsh have to do with psychic
Sabrina would have appeared in Diamond & Pearl Battle Dimension anime if ash was transported in the Spirit World/Distortion World.
I’d say she’s still running her gym along with her parents, but no longer antagonizes her challengers and employees
I never felt scared of Sabrina.. she made me feel.. sad, even as a kid I knew she was lonely.. I just felt it from her dialogue, she wanted friends.
Sabrina is one strong gym leader and I am sure evryone knows that
Her Psychic powers are incredible
Stronger than more psychic Pokemon I reckon :)
Heya fellow Pokémon Professor!
So happy I found your channel Alex. Keep on pumping out great content.
Thanks! Will do!
I loved Sabrina's story arc!
Same! More to come :)
Yeah, but her dark personality is scary.
sabrina in this ep is pure awesome
this is why she is my favorite anime character ever
Great choice in favorite :)
