- This one took way longer than expected but I'm happy with how it turned out! Enjoy this mini documentary about Sabrina. Which part was the most interesting or surprised you the most?
Who do you want to see in the next video? Leave a comment!
I remember renting her episodes from my library as a kid. Still the episodes i remember most out of the small amount ive seen.
Those were the times! It's sad that you only appreciate them when they're over. These episodes were actually great too
Sabrina's design in HGSS is definitely my favorite. Had a huge crush on her as a kid and still to this day find the design great.
Since I was a kid I always LOVED everything related to horror, spooky stuff, etc. And I can still remember when I saw the Sabrina episodes back in the 90’s - early 2000’s. Abra (and its evolutions) are still my favorite Pokémon in 2024.
She was the most terrifying gymleader in the anime. I got legimately scared back then.
In games I liked her the most in Pokemon Stadium 2. When she won, she would tell you how she foresaw it.
sabrina from the anime is awesome
my favorite pokemon character ever
In the anime, she was the scariest person to me as a kid. Kadabra had me shook feeling like I needed one in my team
Games: Stoic Master of Psychic Powers
Anime: Total nutcase... for which the cure is screwball slapstick comedy. Afterwards actually kinda friendly.
Adventures Manga: OOC Rocket Goon
Electric Tale of Pikachu Manga: Kind and friendly, if reserved. Spends most of the volumes focusing on her asleep, under the influence of a GIANT haunter known as the Black Fog
Pocket Monsters Manga (the one with the gag Clefairy): Super serious all the time.
Zensho: Friendly
Seriously, what is it with Adventures turning sympathetic characters into irredeemable villains?
@pikaschu.96
I haven't and thanks for letting me know. Adventures never interested me because of the massively OOC characterizations, so all I've seen of Adventures Sabrina was "lol she's a rocket". I'm glad they turned her around afterwards.
@pikaschu.96
There was enough characterization in the original games from the dialog to at least get a general idea of the characters' personalities. Sabrina's dialog implies she's a pacifist who prefers to hone her psychic powers rather than battling. That's not the kind of person who would actively engage in criminal activity like Adventures Sabrina does.
@pikaschu.96
I wouldn't call someone outright saying that they don't like to fight "vague".
Also, there's a few trainers in gen 1 that have whips, not just Rockets. Tamers, Cue Balls and both genders of Cooltrainers have them as well.
@pikaschu.96
Regarding the whip, again, there are other trainer types that used them in gen 1, not all of which are villainous. They're also removed on all classes _except_ Tamers, INCLUDING rockets, in the remakes. If anything, this is evidence that Game Freak didn't intend the whips to be taken as negatively as they were, since simply cracking a whip was historically used in animal herding without actually needing to make contact.
The position of gym leader is shown in a LOT of Pokemon media to be more than just simply taking badge challenges. Gym leaders have also shown to be first responders to incidents within the cities and towns their gyms are in as well as for the whole region. It's also shown that it's not necessarily a voluntary position. For example, in the anime, Brock is shown as having had to take the position while his father was away. Saffron Gym appears to have a meritocratic structure in most media, meaning that Sabrina most likely holds the position simply because she's the strongest trainer in the gym.
As for having usurped the previous fighting-type gym, keep in mind Sabrina is quite young in pretty much every depiction. It's very possible that that happened before Sabrina ever joined Saffron Gym in the first place, or even before she was born. You can't put her predecessor's actions on her if that's the case. Keep in mind that the fighting dojo trainers never mention Sabrina by name, just the Psychic type gym.
@pikaschu.96
"A whip is regardless, a violent weapon, used to intimidate and punish animals who do not listen to commands."
Because OBVIOUSLY there's only one way to use any sort of tool, and if that "one true way" happens to be violent, then that tool MUST be evil, right? I already gave an example of a non-violent use, you're appealing to the stone here.
Here's another non-violent way a whip could be used: a louder version of clicker training. Clicker training is where you get an animal to associate the sound of a clicker with a reward. However, clickers are very quiet and wouldn't be able to be easily heard in the midst of battle. The crack of a whip is far louder than a clicker but has a similar "snappy" sound to it, so it can be used in a similar way by cracking it in mid-air.
But that doesn't matter to you, does it? After all, there's NO way a whip could ever be used non-violently, right?
"there’s tons of dialogue where the player character is talked down upon and harassed by elders"
You say that like that doesn't happen in any real-world competitive sport. Trash talk happens and some people really are nasty towards others.
Two things here, though.
1. Sabrina IS NOT one of those trainers in the game. In fact, she's one of the most respectful characters.
2. Even if she was, there's a huge difference between just being a jerk and being one of the high-ranking officials in a criminal organization. They're not mutually inclusive.
"I’m not taking the remakes into account because they came after Adventures’s version of Sabrina"
Doesn't matter. I used them to show that Game Freak _didn't_ intend the whips to be seen as "evil" and realized their mistake. You're trying to dismiss evidence because it doesn't fit your views, I'm not letting you do that.
"it’s quite literally why many of the characters in the anime are nothing like their game counterparts"
Except many of them are? At least to an extent. Just to go over the gym leaders:
Brock's mostly in-character. Misty is only a little more aggressive in the anime than she is in the games. Surge was more of a jerk in the anime but that's built upon his arrogance in the games. Koga still has his whole "Ninja" thing going on. Blane has his obsession with quizzes and puzzles and his somewhat antisocial nature, in fact the anime exaggerates that. Giovanni is still the evil leader of Team Rocket. Even Sabrina, again, is her normal, introverted but friendly self once she's cured of her madness, even though that madness is OOC in its own right.
"Also, Sabrina is expectedly stated to have wiped out the dojo gym next door by an npc in her own gym."
Which NPC? Don't just say "an NPC", which specific trainer is it?
Honestly, seems like you really just want Adventures to be the "one true canon" for Pokemon.
This was such a good, high quality video!!! Maybe a video on Caitlin since she's also a psychic?
Thank you! Yes, Caitlin is a great suggestion! I feel like the Unova Elite four doesn't get enough love
@@critburnflinch YES they aren't and they need attention because they're so well thought out ^_^
i mean... Sabrina can literally warp reality in the pokemon universe of course she the strongest person there.
It is interesting that love and emotion is something that pops up throughout the Sabrina's incarnations. She made the decision as a child to pursue greater psychic powers at the expense of everything else. This produced great results, but she craved what she sacrificed as a child. Sabrina turning her mother into the doll in a dollhouse could be her wanting to experience her mother's love. In the dollhouse, Sabrina's mom can be her mother for eternity without growing old and can never leave her. In the manga, Sabrina getting mad at Green for saying that she is not beautiful, charming, and having poor grammar could be preying on Sabrina's hidden insecurity, the desire to be loved romantically. What kind of man would want a woman who is ugly and cannot speak in proper sentences. Secretly, Sabrina might agree with Green and this infuriates her. Perhaps this is the reason she secretly bathed with Red and allowed him to see her naked body. His reaction affirms her that she is beautiful, and Green is a little twerp.
You summed it up well!
This video is great, leaving a comment for engagement boost, Sabrina is definitely a goat, but mentioning her appearance in gen 5 should’ve been included
Much appreciated! Good shout! I should add a small section on appearance in future videos. Sabrina is definitely one of the coolest too
Her dad also having psychic powers, and not saving her mom is very concerning.
It's either a treatment to Sabrina's strength or an additional red flag of her family
I honestly think he was just scared, but he saw something in Ash so it was sort of a long-term investment.
@@critburnflinch honestly amazing investment Ash almost died and ultimately changed her 😅
In Pokémon Masters EX, there is an episode where Sabrina plays the movie villain Bellelba, who tags along with Brycen-Man. Everyone compliments her on how well she was acting, but after seeing this video, I'm pretty sure she wasn't acting at all.
Aha I'm just glad she found her way in the end.
Great video bro. I love Sabrina especially her Let's Go design ❤
Thanks! I'm not a fan of most Let's Go designs (i.e. Lance) but Sabrina's definitely works!
Lets be honest the only reason she is so strong is because she is the Kanto psychic gym leader.
I guess psychic can only go 1 of 2 ways in the anime. Either, be OP like Sabrina or be that bending spoons guy.
She’s strong because she’s a badass, simple as that.
@@Manus_0813 There we are
I think we all know about Venomoth’s war crimes, ain’t that right?
I don't think I'd necessarily put her above Riley and his ridiculous anime Aura barriers.
She is.
But doesn't she return in the manga?
Pryce: Allow me to introduce myself!
Who leaked my September schedule?
Sabrina is a bad girl in Pokémon Adventures Red Manga and Unofficial Game 😏😏
She was overpower, especially that psychic pokemon best ghost. In green you get the badge automatically if you loss. Ash never beat her the badge was given. She's elite 4 worth
It didn't look winnable at all for Ash tbh, he's lucky
Give Sabrina A Lv100 Mega Mewtwo Y Fully EV/IV Trained With Psyshock.
How about psystrike?
@@critburnflinch
Even Better.
Sabrina is one scary girl
Hot take: fantina is the strongest pokemon trainer, she went fron kalos which seems to be an okay to average region to sinnoh, became and gym leader while having a huge focus on contest, when you face her in bw2 she has a giratina, the girl is basically sweeping people in both visual contests and actual battle, she pretty much got sinnoh on a leash, in the anime she changed the battles forever and upped the level
That's a good point, but when I said powerful I meant the actual person as she had psychic powers. Giratina vs Mewtwo is debatable in-game, but in the tv show mewtwo was depicted as unbeatable.
@@critburnflinch that's fair
Won't lie, I think you dropped the ball on this
The story was very very interesting until part 2 where you just kill off ahsoka, abandon ezra and made it into a generic evil luke trained by vader turns good last minute plot
?
@@critburnflinchthere is a glitch on mobile, where when you comment on a short, while having a normal Video open, the comment gets posted to the normal video.
I would bet this is what happened here.

@critburnflinch ye sorry about this I thought I deleted this
Meant for a different video, your stuff was great 😀
@@BluePhoenix_ correct!
Props for the quality on this dude keep it up. Quick sub 🫡
Thanks a lot! I'll definitely put my all into these kinds of videos!
