After all of these years, I can only say, ‘Wow...what a singer.’ Steve Perry’s vocals generally render me speechless, just as they did back in 1978, when this album first was unwrapped and placed on the turntable at the record store in which I worked. After about five minutes of listening, I think we also said, ‘Who IS that guy?’
I was 15 yrs old when this came out it was a perfect song with my girlfriend , so many great songs came out during that time , sometimes i wish I could go back and relive some of those old times they were the best of times.
I was 15 as well, this song got me hooked on Journey till this day, saw them in concert 17 times, escape tour 3 time in 3 cities. I was deeply sadden when Perry parted ways.
I was born in 1979. I was a child of the 80’s and a teen of the 90’s. I don’t complain because my “coming of age” was with Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, STP, NIN, Nirvana, etc. But the older I get (43 now), the more I see how my generation was the last to know what “cool” *really* is. Starting in the last year or so of the 90’s, music became industry manufactured garbage, with performers (because they aren’t artists) surgically enhanced Brat dolls. You though... to be a teen with Journey - I am a little envious. I would go back, anytime.
So my mum was pregnant with me when this song hit. I have always been a casual Journey fan - you know the type, we can’t name most of the members, band history, and only know about 8 songs off the “greatest hits” cd. What can I say? I grew up grunge. But lately, as a 43 year old mum, my oldest son (6) has a love of music and singing and I thought ‘gee - Steve Perry is about the best, let’s see if my child likes Journey’. That was a couple of weeks ago, and I have since become a true Journey fan, and especially a Steve Perry fan. This song... *this* song! Why have I never heard it before?! Why is it not played on the radio *still* today? Well, better late than never for me to fully realize how great Journey is, and how magnificent Steve Perry is. [P.S. both my boys (6 & 3) now run to listen to anything Perry sings, and my oldest asks “is that HIM?”. A whole new generation in the making.]
Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry as if singing solo wasn't incredible, together pure magic!!! I always thought Gregg was way under rated!! Plus he"s so sweet when he sings!!! Just love him!!
I think this album was released in early 1978 and recorded in late 1977. Just imagine this song and video , this special moment in time that will never happen again , were recorded for us. I feel so grateful for that. Thank you to all the members of Journey for your music for the last 40 years.
Greg and Steve had a nice balance in this song. Steve's voice is just so powerful. Just one of those songs that transports you right back to wherever you were the first time you heard it.
Anyone out that is sharing iconic classic rock n roll with young relatives, please expose them to this gem of a song. It captures the changing of the guard from from founder of the band Greg Rollie’s voice to arguably the most incredible rock n roll voice we’ve know. Keep the fight; don’t let rock n roll die out!!
Even 40 years later and I still love listening to Journey. I had a boyfriend that turn me on to Journey back in the 70s. And I still love them and him.
God I missed Greg Rollle's vocals when he left Journey.Formerly keyboard player for Santana.Founding member of Journey. The combination of his vocals along with Steve Perry created a unique sound .You can even hear it in rhe backing harmonies.Possibly my favorite Journey song right here especially when it segues into Anytime!

Hello, how are you doing today? Nice meeting you here.
2024 now💗💗💗💗
After all of these years, I can only say, ‘Wow...what a singer.’ Steve Perry’s vocals generally render me speechless, just as they did back in 1978, when this album first was unwrapped and placed on the turntable at the record store in which I worked. After about five minutes of listening, I think we also said, ‘Who IS that guy?’
Yep! When I first heard this song, I had to know who that voice belonged to. It was like a lightening bolt going through me! Still love Steve.
Greg Rolie and Steve Perry are magnificent on this track.....🤘🏼🤙🏼✌🏼
I was 15 yrs old when this came out it was a perfect song with my girlfriend , so many great songs came out during that time , sometimes i wish I could go back and relive some of those old times they were the best of times.
I went to this show in 1978 at Andrews amphitheater in Hawaii best show ever
Awesome 💯❤
This is a far superior song to what is generally considered their Greatest Hits
This is on all of their greatest hits albums.
Journey was at the height of their talent in this video.
What a Great Time Growing up 1970s in Cali to Great Music, Those Were The Best of Times and Everyone was Happy,,,, Steve and Greg were the Best
Yeah, most youth of today are confused! Bless their souls!
Greg and Steve will go down as one of, if not the best, one two mic punch ever.
I love Greg and Steve vocals! It's a real shame Greg didn't stay with the group to do more vocals like this.
Gregg Rolie and Steve Perry as if singing solo wasn't incredible, together pure magic!!! I always thought Gregg was way under rated!! Plus he"s so sweet when he sings!!! Just love him!!
Jasi Ayanni
He’s twice in R&R Hall of Fame:Journey AND Santana. 👍🏻👍🏻
Yeah, and if Steve could get his voice back in shape, you put this original lineup on tour and you can name your ticket price per seat
@@yaimavol Sorry to break it to you but Steve was not original.
@@synthonaplinth5980 oh well. He made journey what it became
@@xaidensgrandpa NMO argument with that but he still was not original.
Just one of those songs that transports you right back to wherever you were the first time you heard it.
probably the greatest Journey song ever. the blend of the two voices is incredible mellow and power in one song. perfectly written and arranged.
One of the very very few vocalist that sounded as good live or studio .., it was amazing to see .. should be in the top 5 ever vocalist in rock
What incredible harmonies, one of a kind!
transcendent!!
Listen on a real stereo where you can hear the dynamics and separation, they made this with quality and care for you❤
What i like the most of that era of Journey is the vocal harmonies between the band and great duo Perry Rollie.
This song always reminds me of my high school days. It was always on the radio and that was in the late 80s! Great song, good times👍
Steve's voice stirs up your feelings. What an amazing vocalist!
Gregg & Steve ~ their voices and harmony.Timeless song.
This is my favorite Journey song! Gregg Rolie on keyboards has an amazing voice. Love this band
If you like this, there's another great Rolie/Perry duet, called "Just the Same Way". Just as good, if not better than this.
I really like Rolie’s voice, especially on Anytime
Greg had the better voice,Steve's was a nose singer...
Greg was my favorite vocalist, then Deen Castronovo, then Steve Perry. Loved Jonathan Cain but Journey lost a lot when Greg departed.
@@richarddalejohnsonjr1018 They are both good singers. I think Steve Perry has a unique voice.Fans went crazy over him back in the day.
"Masterpiece" need I say more.. Where the heck is this kind of music today? Sad, what we have out there now.
The moment Steve Perry announces his f*cking presence with authority at :37 is one of my favorite music moments ever.
Listened to this song till i wore my record player out...with headphones on. LOL
:37 !!!! Love !!
he broke it out!
100% truth right here...
Drew Shirley Mine is when Bonzo throws his sticks away and plays the drums with his hands
Can't believe this was 1978. God we had such great music growing up then.
No doubt
yes we did have great music in those times!!!Miss it very much!!!!
What a masterpiece, back in the day this band had it all in talent.
What a time to be alive!!!!!!
The music was magical. Artists had actual skill.
Steve Perry is incomparable.
LONG LIVE THE 70S AND 80S
I called it the Woodstock Generation
@@MsAudreyKEvans Technically 'yes' but really this was about ten years after Woodstock
Amen to that… Born 1965!!👍
One of tbe best songs ever written .
Even 40 years later and I still love listening to Journey. I had a boyfriend that turn me on to Journey back in the 70s. And I still love them and him.
Awe😊
0:37 Steve friggin blasting off like a Superhero, sonically savage!
Cannot Express how many times this band has picked me up in my life. Excellent!
God, how I loved early Journey!!!!!!!!!❤
Awesome song, awesome singing
This is one of my most favourite song of Journey with Steve Perry and Greg Rollie. They have a good harmony. I love this so much!
hello Maria, how are you doing today? it's my pleasure meeting you here.
Sitting outside on a HOT summer day I put this song on and had goose bumps all the way through the song! Now THAT'S music!!
Loudest concert I ever went too. Couldn't hear for 3 days.. will never forget it. Fantastic
These guys absolutely a compliment to each other amazing vocals
THIS IS JUST TOTALLY AWSOME!!!!!!! SO GLAD I GOT TO LIVE GROWING UP LISTENING TO JOURNEY AND GOING TO THEIR CONCERTS WHEN STEVE PERRY WAS THE LEAD SINGER ! HE IS THE BEST VOCALIST EVER !
Absolutely A Beautiful Song. I GROWED UP WITH THIS KIND OF MUSIC. I STILL LISTEN TO IT. ❤
It doesn't get any better than this, classic Journey lineup and a can of Bud on the piano. Rock on, my friends...rock on.
That is quintessential 70s Journey. The bell bottoms, fumanchu stashes, big hair, Budweiser on the piano... take me back please!
The best band ever! Loved Steve's voice, amazing❤
I agree 100% it's too bad Steve left. Who knows what else Journey would have given us
Never stop loving this!!!
They gave me goosebumps always. Emotions
This song evokes memories of my childhood back in the seventies when music was so good and I listened to the radio incessantly. All time great Journey song!
No band can come close to the extraordinary talent & charisma of Steve Perry & Journey! Their music will ALWAYS be revelant! 💠🔶️💠
Steve at this stage kicked lots of so called singers to the curb,he's on his way up to elite status rightfully earned.
Are you feeling that way too? That these guys are so awesome that their music can transport you to a whole different place and time!!? ❤
Gregg Rolie’s voice is very underrated. He is a very talented pianist and keyboardist. So sad he left Journey. But, without Jonathan Cain, there would be no don’t stop belivin…
This is definetly my favorite Journey song!!! I love when they show them in the studio!!
