    Beta had a recall/warranty on those diode packs. My dealer sent me 2 separate diode packs with instructions on install for my '17 race 300rr. The packs needed to be pointed down so that water wouldn't pool and corrode the diodes. My new diode packs were also in cased with a protective plastic to keep water out. I have a couple 300rr DIY videos on my channel.

    A nice mod for the diode/capacitor. Is to cut off the heat shrink. Stick them into a tube and pot them with epoxy. Eliminates the possibility of corrosion/breakage

    Hi,
    ich have exactly the same problem at this bike (300RR 2 stroke, but it's MY2016. I can't find the connector for the Diodes. There is definetly no connector for it. Do you know, if all models have this Diode-Pack?
    Bets regards from Germany, Michael

    • @GnarlyChicken
      @GnarlyChicken  Год назад

      Mine was a 17, but not sure if the Euro models were different than the North American models. My diode pack was located behind the left rear side panel. I could be wrong but I believe some of the Betas didn’t have a diode pack.

      @@GnarlyChicken Hi, thanks for your answer. I hope to get also information in a german Beta-forum.
      But one more question: the cable-colourcode is in many cases not correct. In the wiring-diagram they are in some cases different colours. Is it "italian-freestyle"? Do you have the same experience with this?
      But my cabel harness looks good, not manipulated. ( I'm working as electrician, so I have some experience with wiring-diagrams, volts and amps 🙂)

      Michael, I feel your pain bro. The Beta electrical is absolutely horrible. Initially, when I was trouble shooting my issue, I tore apart my main harness, that runs along side the frame below the right side handle bars. The grounds were known to come apart. Mine were fine, but I soldered them all together anyway. It was after that I discovered the diode issue. Good luck to you buddy

      You may not have that diode pack in your 16 250. Some earlier Betas didn’t have them. Can you find a parts fiche to loo up?

    Hey there @GnarlyChicken
    I am having issues with my 21 Beta 300rr. Just checked all the connections for corrosion and have found none as yet, but will have a better look at the diode pack after watching your video.
    My issue is I have lost the hour meter and odo memory and no longer have the map switch working.
    For the hour meter, I checked the battery in the speedo it was fine, but replaced anyways, it did not change anything.
    For the map switch, I replaced with a new one with no change in functionality.
    Bike seems to charge fine and have had now issues with battery levels, but will check those measurements and also verify and clean the ground connection onto the frame. That would leave only the diode pack or possibly a wiring issues elsewhere in the wiring loom.
    Any other suggestions?

    • @GnarlyChicken
      @GnarlyChicken  2 года назад

      Hey bud. When I started chasing wiring issues it was because my batter would not charge passed 12.4. So changed to a new battery, but the problem then is that battery would only jump to around 13 V on start up, where it should have charged up to 14.2V. I then opened up all my wiring loom in the right side of bike, at the are where the loom exits from the right side of tank, and enters into and behind the headlight mask. This spot in my 17 300RR was a weak spot as the many soldered ground wires were known to detach from turning the bars. I opted that all up and of course, everything was fine lol. That’s when I discovered the diode pack behind the air filter. All 3 diodes were corroded and detached. A new one instantly fixed my charging issues ti 14.2V when running. That said, a week after, my speedo crapped out. A new battery for it did not solve the issue. By this point I knew I wanted a Husky 300, and sold my Beta as was. The new owner has put over 200 hrs on it, and speedo still doesn’t work lol.
      I would start w your diode pack. The rubber/plastic over on mine was really brittle, so just pry off gently and evenly.

      Checked the diode pack, looks like it is almost new, no discoloration, looks fine. All connections I have taken apart are also clean with no corrosion. Opened up the wiring loom, again all looks perfect where the grounds are all spliced together on the copper block. Checked the ground onto the frame, clean with no corrosion and clear to the metal.
      Still no map switch light or looks like it is working and the speedo is not working properly. Clock is holding time, so the batteries in the speedo are good. The kms and the hour meter keep resetting.

      Don't think it is the battery, never had an issue starting the bike. Just checked on the way out the door to work and the battery is reading 13.7v, didn't have time to start the bike and check the level but would suspect somewhat higher like 14.2v when running.
      Ground block looks to be good, cleaned ground to frame connect (was good already), all connectors that I took apart are mint (cleaned and added more dielectric grease).
      WTF

    • @GnarlyChicken
      @GnarlyChicken  2 года назад

      Battery should be at least 14.1V when running. If not, your battery is no good. Often happens that batteries are only at 70 0r 80% . Get ur battery Load Tested. It’s free at any shop. If it shows anything less than 85%, toss it and buy new
