Haha I’m looking at tourist videos for Orkney this wasn’t approved by any tourist board!
We face very similar issues in Caithness. I can strongly relate to an unreliable Stagecoach bus service with old, not-fit-for-purpose buses.

I'm Orcadian (I use a pseudonym for RUclips) and I found this video to be a complete and utter misrepresentation of reality.
I attended Stromness Academy and then studied at Glasgow and Leeds Universities.
The young men who were derogatory about Orkney I find very immature and would probably moan about their surroundings regardless of where they lived.
Anyone who has grown up here will know that any young people who thrive are usually into some kind of sport.
There is a vibrant rugby community. There is a vibrant football community, indeed Orkney recently fought their way into the North Highland Caledonian league and many of Orkney's squad are teenagers.
There is a thriving hockey scene and athletics is a big part of the Orkney sporting calendar. Orkney has long been a hotbed of musical talent and there is ample opportunity for young local musicians to get themselves heard. Some of our own homegrown talent has even gone on to win awards such as Kris Drever who won the BBC Folk award a few years ago..... no mean feat!!
Youngsters here like to party at weekends (most weekends!!) ..... most good natured Orkney parents will allow their 17 yr old son or daughter to have a few beers/vodkas with their friends. Most socialising takes place at family homes..... music may blare and voices may raise but at the end of the night everyone has had a good time and nobody has gotten hurt.
I find it slightly ridiculous that we have a young man from Birmingham telling us that there's nothing here....... what is there for kids in Birmingham?? All we hear on the news is about disenfranchised kids committing violent crime and turning to drugs.
Do they have beautiful shores to walk? Can they have a barbecue on a summery saturday night with their pals?
Do they have seas on which to fish?
Do they have endless miles of links on which to race motorbikes?
Do they have fields in which to race a knackered old Ford Focus?
Do your parents worry themselves sick when you're out late at weekends?
Do you really think that the only thing young Orkney folk are after is drugs???
Do me a favour and grow the f**k up!
If your'e bored in Orkney then it's YOUR fault!!
There are plenty of happy, ambitious young Orcadians who go on to become successful business owners or become successful academics.
Take your patronising rude opinions and piss off back to wherever you came from!!!

Do you actually have any IDEA what the transport links (buses) were thirty years ago?
The bus network in 2022 compared to the bus network in 1992 is completely and utterly incomparable
The buses in 2022 are light years away from what they used to be
My son plays rugby for Orkney and is working on an apprenticeship for Orkney Builders at the moment but going forward he wants to join the Royal Engineers.
I'm not telling any young person their feelings aren't valid. They are!
But I studied in Glasgow. ..... I studied in London....
I studied in Leeds and let me tell you the young folk of Orkney have NOTHING to moan about

Try getting a bus from Kirkwall to Randall, is there one?
Orkney and the cities both have there pluses and minuses depending on what you are looking for.
I love Manchester and I love Orkney. Westray not so much.

I love Orkney I travel up from Manchester every year on my motorcycle.
I am not sure how much I would like it if I were still young, maybe not at all?

What sort of activities would you all like to try or do,? So many to choose from or think up? I suppose if every village had a minbus, then that could make it easier for everyone to get to the city and back through the day & evening, .. It would be good if every village had a pub with a place for live music & sing song and a youth club & a place to cook and eat together & do exercise such as on a climbing frame and a track for running and a field & hall for playing sports, .. Does the local history/culture get taught well in Orkney? Are the roads safe to cycle along? Are there places & opportunities where you can learn new skills and have fun whilst doing so?

I suppose there's plenty to do for free with a bit of imagination and creativity and there's possibly ways to get funding or do fundraising, .. with a bit of initiative and resourcefulness, .. Good luck in Orkney, ..

Very interesting. I have a teenager and we live off the grid in a rural community but on a main island 1 hour from a big city, We also lack good public transport so getting anywhere for my son was difficult until he got a car and licence, We did not even have the internet at home so at times he was frustrated but he managed. I do think the plus side was learning to appreciate things and being in a rural area you have to get out and find something that will interest you without all the modern gadgets. Find something to challenge you. A sport or making your own music. Set up a a band or create your own product to sell.See if their would be some community funding to create something that locals would support to benefit various age groups. Be assertive and dont give up

Very strange that not more people have reacted to this video. Has there been an improvement in regards to legal entertainment?

Nobody owes you a good time or "proper entertainment."
"Give us fun or we'll get drunk." Okay, go get drunk and fall in a ditch, whatever. Have you no parents?
    Wait a sec...

    - Mac. Not from Orkney.
    - Tam. Not from Orkney.
    Yeah... never mind.
