@@MomentsInTrading The Republic is set up through the representatives that are democratically elected. We got rid of states voting for the Senators, and we did that in the 19th century. The only other thing is the electoral college, and what is worse is that could actually be democratic as well if all the states agree to a popular vote rather than a state vote for their electors.
I agree that we are a "constitutional republic" but it's also accurate to call our government a "representative democracy". These terms are not mutually exclusive. We don't vote directly on every issue, but we do vote for representatives who make decisions on our behalf, which is a key feature of a democracy. Every president in my lifetime, both Democratic AND Republican, has referred to our country as a "Democracy" (...if you're up for calling the US a country. I realize that the word "country" doesn't literally appear in the Constitution but most people can read between the lines)

Part of the US government is a republic of democratic states, true, but also part is a representational democracy, part is volunteerism, and even part of it functions as a dictatorship. For instance, go into a courtroom and tell the judge you demand s/he affords you democracy. S/he'll laugh in your face. "In my court," they might tell you, "you find not a democracy, but rather a totalitarian dictatorship." Appeal to a higher court, and yet a higher court, all the way up, and then have the law ordered to you by a lifetime-appointed panel of unelected dictators. But quote Joe Rogan about stuff, if it soothes your feelz.

The problem is that Biden can’t get through regular campaigning. This only leads to Trump increasing his lead. Biden has numbers so bad that no incumbent has ever won with where he is at. That’s why they’re panicking.
We did not have primaries. They were cancelled. Zero town halls. Zero debates. Only guy who entered had to resign from his House seat.

It was frightening. But, when I went back and watched again, listening to what they said, it was very different.
Trump was repeating the lies he tells during his rallies and not answering questions during his turns--easy to do--but during Biden's turns I could hear Trump talking **on Biden's mic** when Trump's mic was turned off, and it was distracting.
Biden was sick (as they said beforehand), dealing with his stutter, answering the questions, explaining relevant plans with detail appropriate to the two minute time limit, and fact-checking Trump in real time, with Trump at least sometimes interrupting off-mic during Biden's turn.
Lies tend to be believed if not called out immediately, and no one else was correcting the lies, so Biden had to do it, and for each question also shorten his answer and any information pre-planned to fit into two minutes based on how long he had just spent correcting Trump.
I could never have done that at any age.
He's old and he made some mistakes, but he's the expert on being president: foreign relations, going from he worst deficit ever to the # 1 economy in the world, fighting climate change, doing the hardest and most stressful job in the world, campaigning, and accomplishing a tremendous amount despite Trump and MAGA members of Congress lying and fighting him every day.
Per health experts, he could not do so well at the 18 rallies (vs. Trump's 0) since the debate if he had dementia.
Trump, on the other hand, has worsening dementia per a huge number of health professionals commenting on dutytowarn on X. But he was repeating lies he's said over and over and not answering questions, so only his impulsivity and increasingly disordered thoughts showed it at the debate.

And This is editorializing. Stick to facts. No one can tell the future. So proclaim the facts of what Biden has accomplished and how he’s set up to accomplish more with another term. He isn’t slacking off.
Also remind the people that we are voting not only for him but for his competent, educated and accomplished administration. We can’t trust that any other Democrat would not start over with a different team were they elected, and this is not the time to start over.

Per interviews and comments, independents and some Republicans are actually doing a better job than Democrats of focusing on the track record and plans Biden and Harris have, rather than the debate. They also noticed Trump's lies and non-answers.
Also, as Biden said, he's the one voters chose.
To overturn that, Democrats would have to agree on and create a new process to switch candidates, agree on the new candidate and VP (only Harris can use the tens of millions of campaign funds), get the electors to switch, create a new campaign (strategy, messages, and ads), and start the campaign a year behind.
As for capability: Biden is not doing the job alone, he has a wonderful team; he has done an amazing job of fixing Trump's many messes and changing the country for the good of 99.99% Americans over the last 3.5 years which is something independents care about; and per health experts, yes he's old and not perfect, but the 18 rallies post-debate show he does not have dementia.
Also per medical professionals, Trump has worsening dementia (see dutytowarn on X). And on top of that, there's Project 2025 to help independents decide.
