I think the best strategy is the ignorance of the consequences of the test result. On the date of the exam, I faith my experience and my previous attempt. I won't have another solution. I will belive my power and my previous hardworking. I believe in my God who helps me in a hard situation.

I would take a few deep breaths before starting my exam. Deep breathing has always worked for me whenever i have felt nervous. I would also consider taking one question at a time by solving those questions which are easier. This way i would have enough time to work on the trickier ones. I remember during one of my job interviews. I was very anxious but the deep breathing strategy helped me maintain calmness throughout and I was able to perform well. Our Breath controls everything so always breath and you will actually feel great.

This video is really helpful. I am preparing for a CELPIP exam in a week and this gave me understanding of what to expect. To stay calm during the exam, I will have a good sleep the night before my exam, think about anything except the exam. I will think about my cute nephew and his love for me. I will also have my cup of hot tea and have a bottle of water with me. Also, I will wake up my memory by thinking about good events/activities that occurred in the past because this always help me to think fast.

During the exam, I have a sip of water and breath deeply. When I took an exam for University, it was so nervous that I got a bad score for Language, the first time. And then for next English exam, I did this routine for calming down and it really helped me to focus on the test. I ended up getting a great score in English test.
Also, I eat Korean food in the morning such as rice, mild soup, and eggs for a little bit of protein. And I try not to have too much for my stomach. Stomach and gut are connected to our brain, so it's very important part on my Exam day.

Personally, I think I can handle stress on exams pretty well. I wouldn't say I don't stress at all, but I think I got control over it. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is when I have to pretend over situations that didn't happen. It seems to me that the CELPIP test was made for creative people, which is definitely not my case.

The most important thing is to prepare thoroughly for the exam, like studying past papers and doing lots of practice. Also don't be a perfectionist and have unrealistic expectations. The higher your expectations the more stressed you'll become. I think my English is very good, but I don't expect a 9.0 in IELTS.

    Hello Mark,
To stay calm during my exam I would definitely take deep breaths specially before uttering anything over microphone. Secondly, I would eat a light breakfast such as French toast or may be one or two pan cakes along with a cup of iced tea. Most important of all I think we should always drink cold water to keep ourselves calm during any exam.
Please let me know if my answer sounds convincing and also I request you to give us some tips on those topics that we absolutely do not know what to say more than one sentence or two. What should we do then?

Lol, at least when you knocked on your head it didn't make a hollow sound. (joking)
I know, what you mean, Mark. I can shoot the brize all day long when I am talking to my friends, for example, while travelling, but should it come to taking an exam in English, I'd probably lost my confidence in just a few seconds. I've never taken any exams in English, though. Anyway, here is what would I do:
    1. Revise all the materials related to the exam early in the evening of the previous day (if necessary), then watch one of my favourite movies in English.
    2. Wake up two or three hours earlier than usual, have a substantial breakfast, go for a walk or a run (if possible) and listen to a funny English podcast or some good English music. (for fun only)
3.Bring a glass or a bottle of water with me. Taking a few sips of water, from time to time, during an exam helps to get over nervousness and stress to a degree.

Awesome strategy! I don't think you'd have any problems passing the test! (And you wouldn't need to knock your brains out like I did. 😜)

Well, it's very difficult to be a calm on the exam day. Specially myself and believe evrybody would be in tense as I felt. However, I will apply some basic things before the exam which will give me some relaxation to be stay during competition. I will start to take low fat, low carbs and penalty of liquid items in breakfast and as well as in dinner, which will help to maintain wealthy. I will also do jogging and some yoga steps which will rejuvenate me. I listen music for sometime regularly which are increasing my concentration and I would be continued during exam.

No idea Mark. I feel it's gonna be terrible. Who can control their anxiety when there is situation, which is going to asses your talent in 1 min. In reality, I speak lots n lots-A non-stop chatterbox. But, when it comes to an exam situation, definitely, our mind will be blank.

Wouldn't one lose marks because of going over time? I'm guessing part of the mark is for good timing, not finishing too quick and not getting cut off.

    • @MadEnglishTV
      @MadEnglishTV  6 лет назад

Ideally, it's probably good to stop talking 5 seconds before the cutoff.

The best strategy is to take CELPIP exam twice because if you feel nervous the first time, you're going to stay confident the second time.
