  • Former Games Workshop assistant art director Tim Pollard joins me to talk about the 80s and 90s under Bryan Ansell, posing for art by Warhammer legends, the reaction to 40k in the studio, writing and publishing the legendary lost GW newsletter Black Sun, the period that John Blanche and Dave Gallagher paid with original art works to lodge in his spare rooms, and what it's like to be the official Robin Hood for the city of Nottingham.
Tim Pollard in conversation with Jordan Sorcery is full of wonderful recollections from the early glory days at Citadel Miniatures and Games Workshop.
    Tim Pollard interview.

Tim is amazing and it was that enthusiasm that powered GW and my own interest. So many of these things (metal, 2000ad, GW) had this sense of fun and community back in the 80s that we have all but lost

Modern GW has a clear style guide, old GW had "Does this look cool?"

Who remembers the figure "Mikal Jaksen" a zombie champion gifted with piercing voice and flaming skull? It even had a single gloved hand....😅🤣❤️👍. Those were incredible days. 😊
The group of people that came together to make these most wonderful memories and majikal hobby will never happen again.

Wonderful guest, his sense of fun that you can see in such things as the names of the figures contributed so much to the appeal and enjoyment of the hobby.

What a surprise, and how utterly wonderful! I get to enjoy Tim's contributions to my own current Oldhammer development even now. This is a great prelude to catching up with the legend in person next month at the Bring Out Your Lead event in Newark. Thanks!

Yay, somebody else loves Minifigs! I’m painting through my late 70s pile of shame too. Great interview, great collection of artwork to hear about and see some things from. Loved it.

"Huh, cool Eagle Transporter model there. ... Oh look, there's another on the shelf with the red stripes. And another. And another. No guesses what this man's favorite spaceship could be."
    [looks closer]
