It looks like at least a Cat 3 hurricane will impact the Florida panhandle by Thursday. Start preparations now. Water (allow 1 gallon per family member per day), batteries (get Ds and double As they go fast), rechargeable solar outdoor lights and flashlights with fans (check out Costco garden section) and charge them up by Wednesday. Fill up your car with gas and get some cash from the ATM because your debit card won't work during the power outages. Get all of your laundry done and buy a spiral ham while your at Costco (it preserves well in a cool fridge even when the power goes out) Take care, Maria Survivor.

I remember hurricane Patricia in 2015 well overperformed forecasts and reached sustained winds of 215MPH which absolutely is another example on the list and why it's important to be overprepared rather than underprepared because anything can happen. The last thing we want is a lot more loss of life and destruction.

Most of the models show a very close approach to Tampa, Like some put winds upwards of 100mph of where I live, because I am only 6 miles from the beach. I am defintely concerned that this makes a scraping motion just offshore or just to the north of tampa and let me tell you so far down here, It's not being taken seriously yet thanks to hurricane fatigue. We never get hit with majors hurricanes. People will look at it and see the eye not coming onshore here even though it still could and assume we will get nothing. A lot are oblivous to the storm surge this would bring even if it didn't get any stronger than the NHC is calling for now.

The surge is already starting to build once this system organizes west of the Cayman's. If it slips through the gap without any land interaction, that surge will build up for 3 days over 600 miles of energy rich waters. Do not underestimate that if you live in these areas.

There was talk last night especially by Eric Webb on what's now John in the eastern Pacific and TD 10E as of last night that it's outflow could disrupt the process of what was 97L and now PTC 9 as it forms into a tropical cyclone. This could also along with dry air in the Gulf according to Accuweather possibly limit the ceiling on PTC 9. Though, as for those along the Gulf coast they should be ignoring that and still be preparing for potentially a major hurricane because if the storm can still quickly form without much or even any struggle it can be perhaps another Michael for example.
