We've been getting a lot of questions about drone usage in this video. Rest assured, no drone was used at any point in this video. All the shots that might look similar to a drone shot were done with a 360 camera on a very long selfie stick.
I feel spoiled by the cabins at Sleeping Giant. They have a full kitchen and bathroom. We love our weekends there in the off season. Also, I love the shout out to public libraries as a source for camping gear and daily passes for provincial parks. Public libraries are such a treasure!
Absolutely beautiful at Arrowhead all year round! Boy did you guys luck out visiting there during a winter wonderland (minus the snowy drive up of course)! Thanks for showing and explaining in great detail on the cabins, what comes included and all that.
Kudos to you two for strapping on the skates, and you sure lucked out on the weather. We've never considered winter camping before., but after seeing this video, maybe we'll have to give it a try. Congratulations on working with RV Lifestyle magazine, and looking forward to your articles and more videos.
Thanks so much. We had a great time. This is our first time winter "camping" without any kids. We used to go with the kids and stay in Yurts but it's been a few years. This was a great trip!
This was so nice to see all the offerings for winter camping. We were up there just before Christmas and they were already getting prepared for the winter activities. They do put a lot of work into it. I so remember that Mayflower trail from a few years back. You almost need to be a goat to get up that one hill🤣. Very nice to know about the library lending stuff out. Was also very nice to meet you’s at the Outdoor Show in Toronto. Keep up the great work.❤️
Enjoyed your video today. My husband and I both snowshoe on our property through the forest. Those poles are such an asset. They have saved me from tripping as there are many tree roots that the snowshoes can get caught on. Glad you had a beautiful weekend to enjoy. The weather was perfect. Hugs sent from North Bay and keep the videos coming. Hope to see you again in one of the parks😊
Oh you and Cheryl went to winter cabin! You two are awesome. We were saying that we might not get to see you guys in PP roof accommodation and look! You made it happened! Thanks a lot Ben and Cheryl. Yes we love camping just as much lol

Great to meet you guys at the Outdoor Adventure Show today (Kevins event). Arrowhead is our favorite place to cross country ski every winter. Glad you guys had a good time in the cabin. Steve (Barrie)
Great video! You made me look back at my pictures from Mar.26,2016 as we stayed in a cabin and did lots of cross country skiing. The ice skating trail was closed that weekend .It was Easter weekend and we got lucky they had snow to ski!!
Our daughter is a librarian that supervises 5 rural libraries. She let us know about the great services the library offers. We were very happy to borrow the snowshoes for free. I think it's a great service that some people can really take advantage off to offset the cost of some activities. Thanks for watching.
Really enjoyed this one. So beautiful, just like a snow globe. Bravo to you both for strapping on those snow shoes and skates too! My glutes were screaming just watching.
I haven’t skated there in years! The last time they only had a rink with a warming cabin (ya, it was that long ago). There was tubing though. Fun times. That cabin was very surprising. Very well equipped and it looks comfortable too. Looks like you both had a great time. Thanks for making this video for all those who wondered what it was like to go there and do this in the winter! ❤

Looks great, you honestly picked the best few days to go all winter. Maybe not for driving, but for winter camping. All the fresh snow in the trees really added to the magic. Also Ben, love the 360 degree camera work!
We really lucked out on the weather especially since we booked it months ago. Thanks for recognizing the 360 camera work. I'm very new to a 360 camera so I'm still figuring it out. Didn't help that I scratched one of the lenses on day one. ☹️

Sorry, I just saw your comment from 13 days ago. Somehow it was in by "Held for review" folder. The Insta360 X3 allows shots from some very interesting vantage points. It has to be in bright outdoor light to look good though. If it's in shade or indoors the quality of the image isn't as good. Noticed you were allowed to use your drone! Awesome drone shots! Thanks again! So enjoyed, while sitting in our trailer in Arizona😁 Maybe next winter we will try a cabin. You make it look enjoyable and doable!
Wow, I bet you're watching in your shorts in airconditioning. No drone used. It's illegal to fly a drone in a provincial park. Those cool shots were done with an Insta360 X3 camera on a long selfie stick.

Another great video. One more thing to add to our bucket list😊 Your camera skills are getting amazing as you go on, especially the drone shots. Congrats on the magazine deal!
Thanks but no drone was used. Last fall I got a new camera, an Insta360 X3. I use it with a 10 foot selfie stick. The camera automatically removes the selfie stick from the video. They call it an invisible selfie stick. It works pretty good for imitating drone shots.
Ben and Sheryl - It was great to meet you today at the OAS (I am the DSLR guy with the monopod.. LOL).. This is Atis. I already follow you on youtube and love your reviews and have referred to them many times... All the best for Season 6. Cheers. See you around.
It was a lot darker on the rink than I was expecting, so it wasn't very good for recording video. It was very cool to do it though. A very unique experience.
Great video, your camera work is getting really good! Also a great tip about libraries, and it was nice to have a detailed tour around the cabin and see all the park activities. Is the off-season roofed accommodation as difficult to book as summer campsites (7am exactly 5 months before)?
I believe that the roofed accommodation is even more difficult to get than a site in the summer because there are so few of them. We didn't look into going until about 3 months prior and of course the entire winter season was fully booked. We were lucky to snag a cancellation. We were trying for a minimum of 3 nights anytime in February. We didn't realize we got the family day long weekend until a few weeks before. Thanks for watching.
We have wanted to do that for years. Great vid. We rented a cabin in Haliburton for the family day weekend. Mother Nature definitely came through. BTW, At 11:05 that homemade trailer is a fellow RUclipsr.
@@673Piper I just checked out the channel. It's very popular. I don't know how we've never heard of it before. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

We're look forward to your video. Yeah, we really lucked out with the weather that weekend. Perfect for what we were doing. I hope you guys were a little better on the skates than we were. Then again, I don't think you could have been any worse.😋

Yeah it was a lot of fun. Drones are illegal to use in provincial parks. Anything that looked like a drone shot was me using an Insta360 X3 on a 3 meter selfie stick. I'm still trying things out with the new camera but it makes some pretty good fake drone shots.
Omg we've been wanting to do this for a long time. If you don't mind me asking, I'm assuming a GoPro max 360, what stick did you use to get the drone like shots?
Thanks for the video.....Winter camping is something we always wanted to try. And Arrowhead isn't that far away. A cabin would be the way to go.......Is the fire and Ice on every weekend? Sure does look nice.
They do the Fire & Ice every weekend, usually starting sometime in January and ending in March. It's all dependant on the weather. If you query "Provincial Park Snow Report" you can check what is open and not open at the park. They update it everyday letting you know if the rink is open or closed.
Question, I noticed you put a sort of porta pottie on the from porch of the cabin? is that enclosed front porch heated? I am thinking I can put mine there put it is a flush porta pottie and hold water in the bottom. It would freeze if the enclosed porch is not heated. Love that cabin. My husband and I never realized before that you could camp at a provincial park int winter.
@@pegcartersreviews7927 unfortunately the porch is not heated. It's very cold on the toosh when ya gotta go. You might have to try something different. It's a great experience being in a cabin in winter at a provincial park.
Another great video! I have a question. Do you have any tips on booking these elusive Ontario parks sites lol. I get on at 7am 5 months before the date and try to book the full week but they are so hard to find. Have you had any luck with the "notify me" feature?
We often get sites closer to the dates because of cancellations. That's how we reserved this cabin three months before arrival. This year we've done well for reservations but then again we've mostly booked May and June in less popular parks and available to go during the week. The only long weekend we're booking is the May two four. Your best bet is the Notify Me button. Make sure your cell phones notifies you for emails and jump on fast once you get the email. Good luck!
Hey guys, nice meeting you at the Toronto RV Show. We've talked about the difficulties in booking PP sites in the past and at that show, someone told me that trailers up to 32' can be dropped on any site allowing trailers, despite the site asking you and restricting the available sites for you based on your trailer length. Our trailer is a 18' so we are able to choose any site, however we would like to go up to 27' - 31' feet but are concerned this will make it even more difficult to book sites in PPs. Do you agree the booking trailer length question is not important as long as you are under 32 feet? Thanks! P.S. If you are planning any US-based trips this year or next, I would suggest Watkins Glen. The State Park is incredible, the area very picturesque with its vineyards, lakes, music festivals, NASCAR races, and pretty town to stroll through. Best of all, for only $30 bucks, you can do 3 hot laps on the Watkins Glen Speedway with your vehicle and take photos on the finish line! We did this and it was a blast!
Hey, it was nice meeting so many people at the show. Regarding trailer length, I don't agree that you would be able to dump a 32 foot trailer on any trailer site. Often when it shows a shorter length like under 18 feet or under 25 feet it has to do with the size of the site, or the ability to maneuver into a site or the roadway leading to the site. I would never book a small trailer site for our trailer unless I actually had been to that site before and I knew we'd be able to get to it and fit on it. The living compartment of our trailer is 25 feet (model 254DSX) but from hitch to rear bumper it's about 30 feet. We will search for sites for trailers up to 25 feet but will take up to 32 feet if it's available. I'd never try to reserve a site for trailers under 18 feet unless I actually knew the site. Funny you suggest Watkin's Glen because we've been there twice in the past and we loved it and we already have it booked for this summer.
Great idea about the portable toilet! Are there any regulations about bringing one? I'm going tent camping with my 4 yr old at Fitzroy this summer and it would sure help me out (solo parenting camping.) Love the videos. Thanks!
Lots of exciting news, RV Lifestyle magazine should offer discount code for “ Camping with the Coles “ subscribers 🤔 Question: you did Arrowhead winter camping, would you do it again?

@@CampingwiththeColes Thanks so much Ben, those are my thoughts as well.
Great idea about the portable toilet! Are there any regulations about bringing one? I'm going tent camping with my 4 yr old at Fitzroy this summer and it would sure help me out (solo parenting camping.) Love the videos. Thanks!
No rules about them. When we tent camped Cheryl would keep one in the vestibule. It's especially handy at night.
@@CampingwiththeColes excellent. thank you!
Lots of exciting news, RV Lifestyle magazine should offer discount code for “ Camping with the Coles “ subscribers 🤔
Question: you did Arrowhead winter camping, would you do it again?
We would absolutely do it again! It was awesome. Maybe do it some other time than the family day long weekend though, because it was very busy.
Not a pleasant looking drive
It was a pretty nasty drive there. On the way back it cleared up around Barrie, then we had an easy drive.
Thanks for sharing the ☃❄🏂
