First smallmouth I’ve ever caught was on ten mile on a dead minnow while getting ready to night fish for walleye. I had to set the hook with my hand because I was changing the depth of the bobber stop. 19 3/4”

That's a fatty! Especially for your first smally.

Nick Brainard one of my uncles I was fishing with said I’ll probably never catch one bigger than that the rest of my life and I was 17 at the time😂

@@cyrulez9373 Prior to this girl, my best was 17", then 17.5, then 18" etc... Smallies are relatively new to Ten Mile, so I think we will both catch bigger eventually as long as we keep fishing that lake.

Nick Brainard exactly my uncle wanted to keep it to get it mounted but a fish like that needs to go back to increase the population in the lake

It’s not necessary to destroy a fish to get a great mount anymore. Very few places do skin mounts now anyway. They’re all eyeglass reproductions. All you need to do is get a good length measurement and some clear pictures, release the fish and the taxidermist can make you a great fiberglass reproduction that will look just as great in 20yrs as it did the first day. Skin mounts deteriorate over time. Fiberglass is the way to go for conservation and longevity.

I’ve caught smallies up to 5lbs in the past. Such a fun battle on light tackle. The MN state record is 8lbs. That would be an awesome fight!

@@SouthernmostBrainard I meant to reply to the guy who got a 27.5 incher. Was on Ten Mile today. 35 and windy. Got a few smallies, a lmb, pike, and lost a walleye st the boat. Pretty slow. Love the lake tho.

@@samhennies6493 I see the other comment now. Do you have a cabin on TM?

No. I live in Pequot. I fished there the other day with Chad Foster who is a better better stick than I. We did better Saturday. Nice walleyes on live scope and jerk baits.

@@samhennies6493 Cool. We live in S Fla and only get to chase walleyes for a couple of weeks each year. But as we get older, we're eying semi-retirement and a cabin on Ten Mile for the summer months. Doubt we'd be up there this late in the season though.
