I wouldn't really say it's the case here, even Stan Lee didn't really like this old series much as it was kind of a dull Colombo wannabe instead of the fun superhero adventures he liked to write, he much prefered the japanese tokusatsu adaptation of around the same time due to them actually trying to invoke the same kind of excitement and thrill found in the comics even if they did change a whole lot about the story doing it.

Parker's struggle with money and trying to do the right thing despite who he might hurt is in the late '70s tv show.
Also looked like the comic book representation of the character too, so brought the comic book to life in a faithful way to the source material. As a kid I loved the 70s version.

It clearly says 1978, and even back then they still had a better way with VFX than this, obviously this was a pretty cheaper TV production rather than a theatrical one.
That's not japanese Spiderman, it's from the much less beloved and remembered american tv series/tv movie from that time, you can see from looking at the eyes on his mask, which look completely different to the Jspanese version, though the rest of the costume is pretty much the same across both shows.
