@@kristinahuchison2511 It always rubbed me the wrong way, Ariel basically gave up everything to be with him and Eric was ready to marry her on the spot. They barely know each other and Eric seems too nice and sexist if he was ready to marry her without a second thought. Are we honestly suppose ship them with all of that in place?
@@kbraven7007 I do agree they’re definitely not a great couple if you’re talking realistically. I mean Ariel isn’t even one of my favorite Disney princesses. I do like them as a couple, but I do completely agree there are just so many issues with their relationship. To me Eric fell in love with her voice instead of who she was without it, considering he almost married Ursula (as Vanessa) because she had the voice. I will argue Ariel originally already wanted to experience humanity and never felt like she fit in as a mermaid. Did you know Part of Your World was almost deleted? Without this song it would’ve made Ariel truly look like she was choosing her crush over her friends and family. I mean she even screamed at Triton “You don’t even know him! Daddy I love him!” Uh, neither do you young lady. I will agree it rubs off in the wrong way me so much she truly believed she’d be much happier with someone who didn’t even know she existed, let alone her species. I will argue however they had some cute moments and chemistry, despite they only spent like 1 day and 1 evening together, which makes the ending so crammed. Like Eric never even formally meets Triton or her sisters, all they do is merely bow to each other at their wedding. Kinda like how Pocahontas’s dad and John Smith never had an actual conversation even in the end when Chief Powhatan gave him his chief robes, it always annoyed me he doesn’t say thank you for his blessing to be with his daughter, oh well. Anyways back to Ariel and Eric, I do agree even in LM2 we don’t really see their relationship expand, considering I think Eric doesn’t even have nearly as much screentime as Ariel. Its one of those instances where the couple’s relationship is crammed because of the movie’s timeline. Like the only couples that I truly believe had much more time to develop and don’t instantly get married are Pocahontas and John Smith, Rapunzel and Flynn Rider, Aladdin and Jasmine, Belle and Beast, and Milo and Kida. Some like Esmerelda and Phoebus or Hercules and Meg (etc) where they don’t marry in the end just seem to feel like they fell in love in just one day, which is ironic considering both couples have somewhat of a more mature and realistic dynamic I do agree I feel Eric’s personality kinda started and ended at “finding the perfect girl” which I feel is why I’m not the biggest fan of their relationship because it’s Ariel who’s really in love, while he’s so grateful to her for saving his life he’s willing to marry her instantly. I kinda hate we don’t even see Eric’s reaction of discovering she’s actually a mermaid, aside “I lost her once! I’m not gonna lose her again!” Sorry about that long comment lol. Who’s your favorite Disney couple? Mine are Pocahontas and John Smith and Rapunzel and Flynn Rider!
@@kristinahuchison2511 I guess my favorite Disney couples are Rapunzel and Flynn, Mal and Ben, Anna and Kristoff (they had development) and maybe Aladdin and Jasmine
Good work.
