As a Florida resident of 9 years, I find your video spot on. The most honest video I've seen. I'm putting my home up for sale next week and moving back to NC where I was born and raised. I've enjoyed my years here, but now the traffic has gotten so bad and everything has gotten crazy expensive. The main reason I'm going home is the health care. I'm really tired of the substandard health care here in this state. I thought it was just me because I use the VA Health Care System, but after trying civilian care through Medicare, my experience is the same. Long wait times , slow referrals, doctors that see you maybe 5 minutes on a good day and tell you to come back in 3 weeks just for another 5 minutes. It's all a revolving door of waiting and poor care. I have learned that any doctor that went to UFC is really the bottom of the barrel . A few years back I started screening new doctors to make sure they didn't graduate from the University of Florida..it's that bad. I guess they spend all their time tanning and partying . Anyway , If you're from out of state listen to this guy that made the video. It is all true and then some. Make sure before you buy a home to check the flood plane because you will need additional flood insurance. If you live less than 3 miles from the coast you need extra insurance. If the home you are looking to buy has a roof that is 15 years old or older you can't get it insured without it having a new roof. If the home is built in 1975 or earlier ,make sure it has been re piped , otherwise the pipes are bad. These are items I learned the hard way as a homeowner here. Also check the sinkhole maps to be sure you future home isn't in danger of being swallowed by the Earth. One more BIG thing, if you are thinking of living on a canal, get out and ask a resident you see if the canal gets full of algae in the Summer. If so you should probably pass if you have respiratory issues or are sensitive to odours. The algae in some canals can get unbearable so you can't go outside in your yard. So do your homework before coming to Florida..hope this helps someone.

Thank you and I try to be as honest as possible and objective without any bias. It's all based on my personal experience living in FL, the experiences of my clients and research. The healthcare system here leaves a lot to be desired. I don't know about the doctors from those universities but I don't doubt they were partying it up in college. I always recommend flood insurance even when not in a flood zone. It's around $500/year and it's good to have just in case. The insurance issue is real here with the older roofs. Lots of issues obtaining insurance for many homeowners with a good amount of them being dropped. Thank you for your comment and all your observations living in Florida the past 9 years. Even with all of the issues, I personally think Florida is still a great place to live with more PROS then CONS but that's just my opinion. BTW - I can help you sell and get back up to NC if you're interested 😎

I'd say this is overall pretty accurate. I dreamed of living in Florida my whole life after visiting various cities there over the years. In 2015 I got my chance and moved from the Midwest to Ft. Myers. Huge mistake. Housing is extremely unaffordable and sketchy at best. Good luck owning a home, the costs are unsustainable, and local agencies like code enforcement are more invasive than the wildlife. Overdevelopment goes unchecked, and the infrastructure is not up to the population explosion. Mosquitos and roaches infiltrate everything.
The brackish tap water is disgusting, and corrosive to plumbing and appliances.
Traffic is a nightmare, no one obeys traffic laws at all, and uninsured drivers abound. Accidents, impaired drivers, and severe road rage are a way of life. Insurance and taxes are outrageous. I rode out Hurricane Irma, and despite how the state pats themselves on the back for hurricane preparedness, it is largely disorganized, and when it hits, you are on your own.
They have the highest concentration of the rudest people I've ever met coupled with a noticeable bias in population diversity. Beaches are filthy and polluted, and perpetual Red Tide makes them unusable more often than not.
Health care is indeed expensive and inaccessible. What is available is a joke.
High crime and an ineffective, corrupt police force round out the list of reasons to stay away. Paradise it is not. Warm weather is the only pro, and believe me it is a small consulation that doesn't outweigh the cons. I left in 2020 which was the best decision of my life. Good riddance, you can have it.

When you buy real estate, you acquire physical land or property. Most real estate investors make money by collecting rents (which can provide a steady income stream) and through appreciation, as the property's value goes up but Investing in the stock market makes the most sense when paired with benefits that boost your returns, such as company matching in a 401(k).

You can look at in any job advertising website . Don’t come to Fl to get a good paying job. Regarding gators , they are very intelligent reptiles . I will say that I agree with all of these issues about living in Florida. I would like to add to that to say that unless you have an established career, finding work can be difficult despite all the jobs that are available. Easy to find jobs tend to be low paying or sales. Unless you are in a dual income household, you may find yourself working constantly without a lot of time off to enjoy the perks of Florida. I moved here from California over 8 years ago and ever since I moved to Florida I find mymself working constantly and make ends meet. I grew up in Los Angeles and I can remember having days off going out with my friends, having time to go to the park and sit there and embrace nature, and I don't really feel like I have time to do those type of things living here. Again it depends on each person's unique situation but as I said if you don't have an established career and you just want to come here and find a job and start living, It's going to be difficult without a good savings because it is expensive to live in South Florida. And medical care here sucks. Hard to find a good doctor with an HMO that's not booked several weeks out. You need referrals for everything and those take months to get an appointment...it's terrible.

@karingoodman4999 I'm not sure the rent prices up there but in Southeast FL the average 1 bdrm in a decent area is around 1900/2k a month. I live in a 2 bdrm in Boca and pay $2500. Broward County which is Fort Lauderdale might be cheaper in some areas but it's not as nice and even a bit ghetto and more crime down there. If you wanna live in a decent and safe neighborhood wherever you go in Florida I'd wanna have at least 2k available for rent or mortgage and be earning 3/4 times that amount to be able to afford the other living costs and have a life. My roommate and I earn about 7500 a month between us and we're struggling. Bills are paid, but it's rough.

Really good video making excellent points. We live in Boca Raton, and a number of the environmental issues are minimized if you stay East. Even iguanas are localized - some neighborhoods don’t have them, others are overrun. We escape to Michigan in summer - best of both worlds. Thanks for your analysis!

I lived in florida and moved to NC 16 years ago , I was planning to go back and Jonathan opened my eyes and reminded me the reason I left that state for good be aware that if you move to florida most of your pay check wil go to pay real state and car taxes and insurance your power bill will be high due florida been so hot food is expensive schools are bad in most areas you will see your self working to live in a house that you won't be able to spent time on is not worth it also rent prices are outrageously over price Try living in north carolina or south carolina is 35% cheaper here than it's in florida you won't regret it.

Totally agree. Been in Florida for 40 years.
Healthcare sucks. Insurance company went bankrupt, now have no house insurance because I'm required to replace my 16 yr old roof at 30k. Massive traffic issues. Housing shortages for renters. Unbearable heat and humidity. It's 90 degrees today and only April
Enjoy gardening? Forget that. Almost impossible to grow fruits and vegetables here once the temperature gets over 80 degrees
Have pets? Massive flea and tick problems
Like the beach? Red tide and seaweed problems with dead fish everywhere
People come here. Stay in their house with all windows closed and AC running 24/7. That's reality.

FL is very unlike CA. I don't know if this important to you, but if you enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, camping, biking it gets very boring here. FL is super flat, absolutely no hills, or mountains or valleys. If natural landscape and beauty is something you appreciate dont move here. And the heat here is super humid and nothing like you experienced in CA. As a native Californian, you should rent a place for a few months in the states you are considering because you will then completely appreciate the great variety of lifestyle that CA offers that these other states do not. If you are a Republican, you will love all these states but if you are a Democrat it can be rather stifling. Remember it's not all about the cost of living it's about enjoying where you live.

Excellent video. I can add a few thoughts living outside Miami nearly 60 years. Just expressions we've all heard about Florida. Like God's waiting room, the sunny state for shady people, Florida, where if the United States ever needed an enema, Florida is where they'd put the tube, Florida, full of shifty people who can go in a revolving door behind you and come out of it ahead of you. There's the usual floriduh. All aside though a pretty nice place to live, especially between Halloween and about Easter. Rest of the year is about like being 3 feet from the sun, plus add the humidity, but at least here a breeze and can happen but rarely goes above 93 in the summer. Love the quirkiness of a lot of people here, to most people do no harm, generally leave you alone, don't care what you do, etc. Glad I don't live in a hoa though, heard about the condo commandos who can't exist without stealing money from the hoa and thinking they can have power over you to live exactly how they see fit, rarely enforcing the rules equally, and better yet won't live under the rules they force on you. I guess ok for some but don't want no part of it. Just ask anyone living in one how much the "special assessment" letters are feared on top of the usual fees.

There's a lot of master planned communities being that there has been so much new construction in the past 25 years. If you don't live out east near downtown there's definitely going to be family chain restaurants. However, it's gotten so much better the past 10 years. I agree... certain parts of FL are boring but I also think it depends on what you find entertaining. I have clients that left and said Florida wasn't for them and I have many that love it here and wouldn't move back. It's all subjective but you make really good points. Thanks for your comment!

We just moved here from PA to FL but opted for West Central FL Ocala area. Not as tropical as South Florida but way more affordable than the East Coast unaffordable living such as PA, NJ, NY etc. So far it's been good. The weather in central FL is not comparable to South FL meaning it's not as humid. No direct hit from hurricanes, average temp 80F and in the 60's 70's at night during the winter. Sure beats paying a propane heating bill 5 months out of the year at $700/month plus an electric bill of $200/mth. Car insurance is a bit more expensive in FL, we bought new construction at a great price and Home Owners here is less than $1000/year. We did opt for additional flood insurance just in case and we're not in a flood zone, it's only $400/year. Ocala FL is a good option if you are looking for year round nice weather, affordable housing, no beach but plenty of lakes, fewer bugs and creatures, lots of new construction and new communities. Sure, the roads are somewhat crowded but that's Ok. As long as we can financially survive, that's all that I ask for.

Lol Floridians have a weird view of snow. I grew up in Florida and live in Minnesota. "We get hurricanes but at least we dont get snowstorms." Hmmm well on one hand... I can have flood waters, no electricity, downed trees, broken windows orrrr a gorgeous landscape covered in white snow perfect for sledding and general winter activities. Tricky choice lol. Here in MN we plow and salt the roads pretty efficiently. And it doesnt take a lot to shovel your driveway. Just get a snowblower if you live anywhere that gets over 40 inches of snow. I lived through Katrina and Wilma and I will take shovelling my driveway for a little bit versus you know... losing power lol. Snow is awesome. I welcome it.

      @LIVSouthFlorida  Год назад

I see your POV. If you like outdoor activities and being out in the snow then you're in your element. I know snow being from Jersey and how annoying it can be with daily life. Our hurricanes aren't that bad other than Ian in the past few years. Losing power sucks and for the major hurricanes we usually drive out of state and make it a vacation. Many have generators too so it doesn't affect them. I wouldn't want to be stuck in cold for 6+ months. That's just my personal opinion. It's nice to visit but I appreciate being able to do all of the activities I want all year round and if I want snow I'll take a trip. It's all perspective and what matters to you.

    • @BadgerCheese94

@@LIVSouthFlorida Well to be fair, NJ handles snow differently. Outside of like Maine and New Hampshire, the East Coast that wintry. I mean it snows and you can get nor'easters and all but it usually melts within a week where as here it snows in winter and it normally wont melt til early spring. A snowstorm in MN is not a big deal. Plus we are so far north we are Canadian Lite lol. Hockey and snowmobiling is in our blood. I am actually disappointed I havent been able to play ice hockey or go ice fishing this season cuz the mild weather.
Snowstorms on the East Coast are more desruptive. All though not as bad as ice storms that hit the South.
But I also dont think we have 6 months of cold. We have 4 seasons. As long as its above 0 I dont mind the cold. My fav temps are the 40s-60s which is how it is most of fall and spring and weather like that is rare in South Florida lol. When it gets that "cold" people don on jackets and boots and act like its freezing lol When its that "cold" here I am either gardening if its April or May or picking pumpkins and apples in October and wearing a light flannel. Thats another thing I dont like about Florida. No fall colours. I will take a maple tree in fall over a palm tree.
To each their own but doing the same activities year round sounds boring to me. I love ice skating on my local lake in January and swimming in the same lake in July.

@@LIVSouthFlorida Your reply here is rather disingenuous. Hurricanes here are bad and every single year stronger and earlier than in the past. Fleeing to another state and leaving your home completely unguarded is not very smart as sometimes mitigating the consequences is the best course of action. You cannot do all activities year round as you claim because the extreme heat, extreme humidity and daily rain showers in the summer will not allow you to do it. Just like in extreme cold climate, in FL you are stuck in A/C environments most of the time and you will see no one outside washing their cars or gardening or kids playing or riding their bikes bc it's simply unbearable and not to mention dangerous for some folks in our population. Snowbirds in my opinion have figured it out perfectly. FL like all extreme weather locations is best as a nice place to visit; living here is a completely different animal. (P.S. in cold climate you are not stuck inside for 6 months if you know how to enjoy all the available winter activities. Not unlike enjoying some activities when you are in the midst of extreme heat).

I'd rather be above water in snow than under water on a coast. Let's face it, the amount of people moving there is exceeding its carrying capacity and is beyond unsustainable.
I wish people would stop condemning snow too, and instead, learn its importance in food growth and nature's checks and balances.

You missed a couple of things to mention, most homes owned by new cubans( I'm cuban so I can tell you from experience)what I mean by new cubans is the freshly arrived ones will fill a single family home ( 3rm & 2BTH) with 12- 15 people in it and everyone will have car. So the eavesment in front of your home will turn in to thier personal parking lot. And the city nor police will do anything to help you with problem. Also they will have partys and noise and music till all hours of the night till morning. Also the city nor the police will help you with this. If not enough they all come with the therd world mentality that moving to a residential community means it's ok to have chicken coops and flying rats(pigeons)cages on the roof that shit all over your car and porch. Which both have been scientifically proven to carry all sorts of diseases. Also they rent there back yard to people who live in apartments so they can keep their pitbulls dogs at that location because apartments don't let pets stay there. And last but not least putting a rv or rv trailers in the backyard and renting them out to all sorts of riffraff that have criminal records or drug convictions and cant get housing because of some sort of criminal activity ( pedefile or child molesters). And the iceing on the cake they all act like you owe them something.

The man speaks truth. The missing piece was the woefully lax environmental stewardship. Most newcomers are oblivious to how poor the water is in the gulf and estuaries. The coral reef off the keys is dead and the once pristine springs are now polluted by nutrients from fertilizer. It is very sad how the citizens of this state have allowed its greatest asset - its lakes, rivers, springs, estuaries and beaches to just die because of the greed of a few and the willful ignorance of many. Very good video. Thank you for creating it. The people who commented below mainly agree with you. The point I really don't understand is why people who want a warm climate pick Florida. Why not Georgia or the Carolinas? And to be honest, if they live in the midwest and hate winter then the mild winters along much of the eastern seaboard would still seem like a major change for them. I moved from a location with very cold winters and sometimes major snows to a location where there is winter but by comparison, very mild. Yes we could get an unusual snowstorm just as Florida gets a Category 3 hurricane. And while snowstorms can cause problems, they usually just keep you from driving a day or two and force you to stay home and relax. Unlike hurricanes where you often fear for large scale damage to your house. If you don't like shoveling then hire someone to do it for you. You're going to pay at least $3000 more for insurance and likely that much more for property tax so you could easily contract someone for $1000 to plow you driveway and shovel. The local guy does my driveway for $50 and last winter I only needed him to come once.

    • @LIVSouthFlorida
      @LIVSouthFlorida  Год назад +1

All valid points. I’m thinking they pick Florida because want a warmer climate on a consistent basis vs Georgia or the Carolina’s that have more seasons and get colder in the fall and winter months. Not too mention that Florida has no state income tax and is more tropical than said states. The feedback I get a lot is that in northern states it’s cold and gloomy half the year and in Florida we don’t experience that. While a good portion of the country is freezing and stuck indoors in the winter, in Florida we’re out having fun, at the beach, golfing, boating, walking/exercising, going out to restaurants etc. Thank you for your comment and I appreciate you watching! 🙏

I've been here for 10 years from NYC and everything you stated was 100% true especially the drivers. I've been in 3 accidents I was just in one. It's bad out here. The constantly growing population is bringing up the housing market here and houses are going like crazy. Bad for the residents that live here that wants to upgrade. My area used to be quiet and bushes now lots of stores, traffic is just extremely terrible and over populated. It gets extremely hot no wind nor breeze whatsoever and forget it after it rains, it gets sooooo sticky and muggy feels like I need a shower than after I shower, my hair and skin is extremely dry. Forget about take-out pass 9pm and if you bored, forget about it. You need a car cause transportation sucks and there's three things I extremely don't like but, I will not mention them on here. Those 3 things are sensitive topics that need to be talked about but not on here. I feel like you can buy a home for the same prices in Georgia and Texas for a bigger and better home. It's not diverse at all. The people are fake, alligators and snakes in your pool, backyard, or front door, sometimes in your house to. Elderly women and her dog literally dragged by a gator into a lake. This one guy got attacked by a gator at his front door and this other lady almost attacked by a gator in her own house. Forget about the lovebugs also literally EVERYWHERE. You also forgot to mention the deer and skunks. There's one thing that is personal or maybe not I just feel like you have to look a certain way to find love here just saying but, yeah these are my cons.
Edit: Oh yeah and the food DEFENANTLY can NOT compare to NYC I said what I said.

Nobody wants bad drivers but apparently they all over Florida. You must live under a rock or never going outside that you never heard of an accident nor passed by one at least. There are accident ever day fool. And of your not concerned a out gators I applaud you. So get a house or an apartment with a lack behind it with no gates and see if you have that mindset still. You have you're own opinion about Florida and that's okay, I'm just sharing Mines and everything I experienced. You never had the same experience, and that's good for you. But, you can't call my experiences silly cause you don't me nor my story. I am not the only one that has been through and witnessed what I mentioned. Maaaaaaaaany many many people have told me people I know and strangers. I just going to leave it at this cause I don't debate through comments nor stay on a topic I truly don't care about like I said, I'm just agreeing what everything the guy stated in this video and putting my own opinion and experiences.

I moved to Florida from NY but I'm a California native of Orange County. Well, I only stayed 6 months in Florida. I hated every single day of that 6 months. First, it rains EVERYDAY!! Second, I've never seen so many bugs in my life, and IDC what you say, those are HUGE flying cockroaches not this fancy name you gave them of palmettos. Did I mention all the bugs, massive amounts of mosquitoes ...... Storms are out of control, tornado warnings at least once a week every week. Third is all the wild bores and alligators, not to mention all the nasty roadkill on the roads, EVERYWHERE!!! Now let's talk about the humidity, it's beyond nasty, and the air just stinks. The water is just pure nasty, it stinks like sewer water and forget about trying to drink it. Extremely Racist state also. People are totally back woods stupid, that's the best way to describe the mentality of most of the people I met. Cost of living is horribly out of control as to me it should be free to live in such a nasty place, and even if it was free, I still would not live there. HATED IT!!!!

Some neighborhoods were segregated by color and unfriendly to non homies. Traffic was aweful.
