In the wild card game against the Chiefs the Dolphins were missing Javon Holland, Xavien Howard, Bradley Chubb, Jalen Phillips, Jerome Baker, and PFF's highest graded center Connor Williams.
These are not just 6 ordinary starters either, these are really good players with the stats to back it up. To say that the outcome wouldn't of been different is a uneducated observation

The Dolphins are in the same situation as ever other team with a big name QB: If the team doesn't make the playoffs, blame Tua. No, the Dolphins are literally every good team of theirs since the 80s. They get off to a flying start thanks to a high-flying offense, tons of home games, and a feather-soft schedule, then they proceed to get their asses kicked by real teams come December when it gets cold. Doesn't matter if it's Baltimore, Pittsburgh, New England, or Kansas City. This happens every time they've made the playoffs going back to the Marino Era.

You know how the Chargers Charger? Even back in the '80s with Dan Marino it felt like the Dolphins were one, two moves away from becoming élite & ownership wouldn't make those moves. They strike me as someone who looks at that bare fact & only thinks of how much $ they would save if their slightly weaker roster players would step up without them having to spend more $.
That's my impression. Hey, it could be worse. Cliff Kingsbury couldn't win with Mahomes, Murray or Caleb Williams, doesn't seem to have the capacity to _conceive of_ "out of structure."
The Commanders got him, then drafted Jaden Daniels. Making The Worst coaching hires possible seems to be a Commanders consistent thing no matter who owns them.

idk why people count teams like this out of winning a superbowl. No one is saying they should be favorites, but people act like if you dont have a QB like Mahome or Brady, you cant win a superbowl, which is just factually wrong. Many mid tier QBs have won a superbowl in history. Shit, Nick Foles won a superbowl this century. Everyone and their mom knows that KC will be the superbowl favorites because he is the best QB, but football is more then just one player.
We all know its best to have a team thats favorited to win a superbowl like KC is each and every year, and the most important aspect of that is getting a QB like Mahomes. But QBs like that dont grow on trees. For the vast majority of teams, your better off just getting a solid QB to start and doing your best building around them every year so that you have a chance to put your team in a position to pull off that upset and win it all as opposed to blowing up your roster and coaching staff every year and living at the bottom half of the league for decades hoping to win the draft lottery. Shit, there are cases of teams winning that lottery but being so garbage that either the player doesnt want to play for them, or just wasting that players talent because the team is completely dysfunctional after decades of loosing.

Giants fan here so I have no reason to defend the dolphins but I genuinely don’t understand this take.
Is every team that’s “good” but not good enough to quite win the SB, going through the worst situation in football? So in a hypothetical sense, teams ranked 6-15 ish out of all the teams in the NFL should just jump ship because they’ll never actually beat the chiefs?
You mentioned not quite being good enough to beat 15 in red. Okay, so who is? The second and third best QBs in the league have consistently failed in the playoffs against him. So does that mean every single team should abandon their plans because they’re in the worst situation in football?
In the dolphins case, when you have a QB that’s decent and good enough to start, wouldn’t the best thing to do in terms of putting your franchise is position to win, is stack the positions around him? Which is what they have been trying to do….
I watch all of the videos and enjoy them thoroughly. But this entire video doesn’t make sense.

Was more answering to the point he made in the video injury’s are a huge concern with our roster. I believe it stems from Griers philosophy of bringing in a lot of veterans who just simply have a lot of tear on their body combine it with bad luck like the achane injury in the beginning of the year it leads to key pieces being injured and the lack of depth being exposed, which in turn leads to losses and playing in conditions our players aren’t that used to in the playoffs. Psychological state, well being and comfort play a big part in any kind of performance on and off the field. Mike macdaniel has to establish himself and his vision through the draft and then the roster will depend less on veteran acquisitions and depth will be created.

This is the best dolphins roster, since the 90's, but it's still not going anywhere, and the qb is still a question mark, the roster is getting old in key areas. He's great at designing plays, and sometimes even dials up the perfect play at the right time, but far more often than not he calls terrible 3rd and 4th down plays. We also just used a 3rd rd pick, to draft a 3rd string RB, just for McDaniel to abandon the run in the 3rd qtr... And then there's Tua... Dolphins are in a spot where they have had enough success that they can't rebuild but they haven't won enough to be happy. Ownership will not allow for a rebuild when Tua is having MVP numbers and Tyreek Hill is in the run for 2k yards. I really hate saying this because I am a Dolphins fan, however, I feel that Dolphins are quite stuck between a rock and a very hard place. They have an elite WR1-WR2 combo in Tyreek and Waddle, a QB that could be a franchise cornerstone but also has some injury concerns, a superstar CB and an elite OT that is getting up there in age, that will take up a massive portion of their player payroll, leaving them without much to pay many of the other players on their team. They also have limited draft capital, leaving them unable to properly restock their team when potential free agents leave in the offseason. The Dolphins had done well at the beginning of the season in 2022 and 2023 under McDaniel, but also stumble towards the end of the season and wound up getting eliminated in the Wild Card round. If they don't make some noise in the playoffs and win a playoff game in 2024-2025, McDaniel could be out in Miami. And, if they start out the season 0-4 or 1-3, I could see McDaniel and, maybe even, Grier getting fired midseason. Once again, I really hate saying this because I am a Dolphins fan, but I agree the Dolphins are currently in an impossible situation.

On paper, 11-6 sounds decent but let's not forget that they completely botched the last quarter of the season + choked the division title, choked beating any real teams and choked the playoffs. Making the playoffs is better than not, but face it - 25% of teams make the playoffs. Winning one is a now quarter century target that Miami seems incapable of achieving. I have pretty low expectations for Miami and am now at a point where I simply don't want to watch the team any further. With their schedule this year, I can see them easily ending up with 7 or 8 wins total and near the bottom of AFC East. The team is going to have to learn to seize opportunities like last year, it is simply not a franchise with a winning attitude or approach.

Kinda have to disagree on this take. I understand this team has struggled in big games, but that's a team thing, not just Tua Tagovailoa. His stats the last few years have been amazing. And he's hard working, and accurate. He struggled a lot under pressure, and I wouldn't even be surprised if some of that is mental, because he wants to avoid injuries. If the offense is able to improvise a bit more, and Tua can make more off the cuff plays, they can compete, people forget, they beat the Ravens, Bills (almost twice), and lions in 2022 not to mention the Cowboys, and a good Jets defense in 23. And they probably could have won more if Tua stayed healthy, also, Tua has a good enough arm to compete in the conference. I don't necessarily think just because he doesn't have the arm of Justin Herbert, or Josh Allen, He'll limit the team. Some of his best plays have been on go balls. So could he be better, yes, but this is not a terrible situation. They have a good enough roster to stack up, and fend off their rivals. Also. When you have a team, that can be that dominant against lesser teams, it tells me your good. The Herbert led Chargers, Hurts led Eagles, and Jackson led Ravens have also come up short in big games at times as well. And I'm sure one would agree those games do not tell the full story of these men's talent. So all I'm saying is if we're going to rightfully defend Herbert from the Chargers blunders hate, or Hurts from the collapsing Eagles hate. It's only fair to do the same for Tua. Particularly with all the success they've had. By the way, this is coming a Bills fan and I love Josh Allen. So I'm not even a big dolphins guy. Just saying.

Exactly right. Tua has improved year in year out and works his ass off to be better. He was performing at an MVP level until we lost almost our entire oline to injuries. Show me a team that can compete with the Bills and Chiefs with their entire pass rush out injured.

Is every team that’s “good” but not good enough to quite win the SB, going through the worst situation in football? So in a hypothetical sense, teams ranked 6-15 ish out of all the teams in the NFL should just jump ship because they’ll never actually beat the chiefs?

Tua is the biggest issue in Miami cuz he can’t produce once his first read is taken away and he sucks under pressure. Hes an average QB at best, the new Andy Dalton. He’s a QB who can only be good in a defined read, rpo system. As soon as he needs to make a play, he can’t do it. Combine that with a team that can’t run the ball when it matters and can’t play defense when it matters either. As a Bills fan, I hope the dolphins keep doing what they’re doing.

I don't think the Dolphins can avoid paying Tua and having him be their long term answer at QB, mainly because I don't think a better option is walking through that door and by the time a young QB got up to speed Tyreek wouldn't be the threat that he currently is. That said, another issue with Tua is his performance in cold weather games. 32-13 in games above 45 degrees, 0-6 when the temperature peaks below 45 degrees. This matters because unless they can get home field throughout the playoffs, they are probably going to have to travel to KC, Buffalo, Cincinnati, Baltimore, or Pittsburgh in January.

I love your videos bro but it is clinically insane to say if the dolphins have no injuries this year they still couldn't win the super bowl. Like there isn't even a chance? We just won 11 games last season while being the most impacted by injuries. The dolphins had their entire starting line healthy for ONE game the whole season. Take a guess which game that was...
What I think needs to improve the most from last season is, Mike McDaniel's play calling in certain scenarios was just horrible. So many outside fades in the redzone, not running the ball nearly enough with those weapons at RB. And Tua does seem to shrink in big games but he has also won big games against good teams.
Also might get flamed for this but i just need to say it: The Tyreek "fumble" in the first KC game was completely BS and stopped us from tying it up right before half time. There was zero forward progress and he didn't have possession of the ball for even a quarter of a second.

When healthy we were the most dominate offense in the league. The issue was still the defense last year. Sure we sucked in the KC game but that game was so cold Mahomes helmet shattered. If Miami had the won the division - had Fangio not shit the bed against Tennessee - Miami would have won its first playoff game in 20 years, even with the multitude of injuries. OBJ is going to have a big game week 2-5 (somewhere in that range) as a 3rd option in a weapon-heavy offense to remind people he i still NFL level fora reason, which may be just enough to open up some coverages overall, but I don't see him getting over 800 yards and maybe 9 tds (with a lot of redzone slants) without injuries and creative game planning being the main contributors

I was watching an interesting video the other day talking about the drop in production for QBs and it has me thinking that Miami is stuck in the past.
More or less, the idea was that with Mahomes emerging as the QB superstar he was around 2020 and other QBs like Josh Allen pushing the ball down field more and more, the entire NFL started shifting defensive strategy to deal with big play offenses. And you instantly saw Mahomes and Josh Allen's play style shift to more underneath plays and fewer over the top plays. At the same time, you have Miami. Who has now built seemingly their entire offense around the home run play. And while that can still lead to a lot of success, once you hit the cream of the crop defenses of January, they start shutting that play style down. And you NEED to have a plan B

Dude, we had no center. We fell apart when Connor Williams went down because all we had to cover for him was Liam eichenberg. We literally went from one of the best blocking centers in the league to the literal worst. We finished with the worst time before pressure and the second worst pass block win rate. Go check the numbers, every game we lost, Connor Williams either didn't start or didn't finish. He went down twice last season. Our problem, as always, is blocking. Fins up, do better research.

I kinda disagree about the effect of losing Jalen Phillips...I've watched the Dolphins closely since Shula's first press conference and Jalen, to my eyes, was the only player we had on defense who could be a game changer against the good teams. When he left with the Achilles injury our defense against the good teams was helpless to stop them....he was that important.

This team is essentially the Kingsbury era that ARZ had. Failing upwards, starting hot and declining down down the stretch. Their offensive highs are very high but the lows are very low, basically ranking their offense as more of a middle of the road unit, top 20 at its worst, barely cracking the top 10 at its best. If they solve the offensive issues, they'll be contenders, a lot of folks tend to forget they've had a top 10 defense both years McDaniels has been there.

Playing in the AFC against 7 of the top 10 QBs is a monstrous challenge for Miami to become a post-season contender. They're stuck where all decent teams led by a good-but-not-great QB are: wild card exit. Besides, McDaniel HAS to develop a top-tier defense. That will be his second key to playoffs success. There are no weak defenses in the conference games.

Dolphins are definitely not in the worst position. Our defense got a lot better but it still needs a lot of work. Although we lost some of our good players I think it was necessary. We kept on acting like we were going somewhere with them. If we were it would have already happened. My theory is you can put all the best players together but if they don’t sync together the team ain’t going anywhere. Different is better sometimes. And we had to get rid of fangio because he was not utilizing the players the right way it was not that he wasn’t a good coach but it wasn’t what the dolphins thought they were looking for. We have also switched some of our coaches that were specialized for specific positions we found new ones

Miami to me are like the Cowboys of the AFC, with a significantly worse defense, and with the caveat that the AFC is a considerably more competitive conference. Both Dak and Tua are intelligent and efficient QBs, who can put up great production when surrounded with elite weapons, but both are athletically unimpressive and both have proven, time and time again, that they LACK A CLUTCH GENE! Both teams will have good records each year, assuming good health, but both will almost assuredly underperform in the playoffs. I honestly think, if I’m either team, I extend my QB, trade up for the QB I like in next year’s draft, and treat Tua and Dak as bridge QBs/mentors to the rookies. If the rookies don’t pan out in 2-3 years, you still have guys you can remain competitive/keep your jobs with, and if the rookies do, you have your franchise QB and can trade Tua/Dak to QB needy teams for significant capital and then use those picks to build around your franchise guy.

Dolphins just need to control offensive and defensive lines and stay healthy, but the O-line is mediocre and the D-line just lost it's best player. That said, they also just had a very good draft and a very good free agency period, and if the defense holds up they can beat these teams, just need health and defense really. A lot of this stuff talked about in this video.....I don't think it even matters.

  • @choiyatlam2552

The problem to me boils down to a few things. 1. For Mike McDaniel, he need to take the step and Sean McVay, to go from a offensive prodigy to an experienced coach who can adjust quickly in-game and save up plays for when things matters (i.e. crucial moments in playoffs). 2. For Tua, he cannot be the guy who hold the team back. He had to elevate the team, make people wrong and make plays with whatever means he see fits. So many times, I see him struggles when he has to double clutch or when defense take away his first read. He either just overthrew, leading to interceptions or eat a sack. He has to be an elite QB (not just put up elite number, but to bail the team out on game winning drives and win with improvised plays, at least a few of them etc.) this year or he would be the Alex Smith of whoever will be the Patrick Mahomes. 3. Supporting cast would also be the key, their defense and Oline in particular was less that stellar, due to injuries and whatever reason. Tua is a QB who would need great team to win unless proven otherwise.

McVay _just hired_ an assistant to help him because he's self-aware enough to admit he has this problem. However, one's mind seizing up like that in the clutch is the norm & _SO_ many other coaches need that. McCarthy & McDermott are two of The Worst clutch play-callers.
Yes, Tua _is_ limited. I don't know if he gets bored doing the same old or if the team & coaching can't sustain momentum &/or innovate late in seasons but the Dolphins _really_ fall apart & Tua can't seem to adjust when things do.
