My biggest concern is the same issue we had last year. The physical size of our RB’s. Yes. They’re extremely quick. (We know that McD.) But when they were touched at the line, they were almost never able to make it far beyond the LOS. They simply cannot run up the middle if the o line doesn’t open glaring holes. And that’s a problem, bc this o line isn’t even a top 15 o line in the league this year, even when healthy.
This is why they had to try to get to the Chiefs sidelines on rushing plays in that playoff game last year. I’m sure yal remember. We COULD NOT run the ball. They stuffed us up the middle. And the Chiefs knew we couldn’t run the ball up the middle, and had defenders waiting for our RB’s on the perimeter to blow up every rushing attempt. And they executed it to perfection.
But instead of addressing this issue by adding a bigger-bodied, physical RB that can pick up those much-needed 3-4 yards up the middle when needed (when the o line can’t open holes), they just added Jaylen Wright, who has the same build, profile, pros & cons of the RB’s we already had. When you go look at the tape of Jaylen Wright in college, all of his best plays came when the o line was able to create wide open holes for him to run between the tackles. And where he is dangerous is his speed and agility after he gets past the 1st level. But when he was hit at the line? No gain. Which is the same issue you have with both Mostert & Achane.
Honestly, I think the Fins blew the perfect opportunity to create a TRUE 1-2 punch at RB, that they could have addressed had they signed Derrick Henry. He would have been the perfect RB to complement guys like Achane & Mostert. Teams would have had to stack the box when Henry is in the backfield. Which would have opened up the passing game. And vice versa, defenses having to defend the likes of Waddle/Reek/OBJ down field, letting Henry eat up the middle, where teams can’t afford to just park 7 players in the tackle box. And instead, they just went out and drafted another prototype thats identical to Mostert & Achane. I truly think Henry woulda made such a huge, positive difference on our offense. And let’s not forget the benefit of having a RB the size of Henry in the backfield, where we don’t have a bigger-bodied RB that can add a lot to pass-blocking (which is why we used Ingold so often, even though he rarely touched the ball), which would have been HUGE. Especially with our o line that’s certainly not going to be a top 15 o line, yet again this year. Adding Henry woulda:
1.) Given the Fins a true 1-2 punch of strength & power to go along with the speed & agility of Achane & Mostert.
2.) Been a much bigger help in blocking situations in the backfield. Something that we can’t say about any of the rest of our RB’s.
3.) Woulda been the perfect RB with his size to get you those 3-4 yard gains up the middle on those 3rd & 3’s, 4th & shorts, etc. Which are the plays that McD always ended up calling pass plays on, bc the defenses had already proven they could stop Achane & Mostert.
4.) Woulda created pandemonium in the backfield, even when defenses know a run is coming, if you put both Achane & Henry on the field together. (As a DC, do you send your defense to protect the perimeters to stop Achane? Or do you stack the box to stop Henry from eating between the tackles? And if you have to focus this much attention on the rushing game, just imagine all the receivers/TE’s that coulda slipped open, as the defense is focused on stopping the rush.)
Unfortunately, we’ll never know. Since we only added another RB that’s identical to Achane & Mostert. No 1-2 punch in that backfield. Just a 2-2-2 punch. Def an oversight again by McD, IMO, to swing & miss on a glaring issue that was missing from our offense these last couple years. And instead he once again just focused on SPEED SPEED SPEED! To put behind an o line that’s currently going into the season as a less-talented bunch than what we had last year. And just isn’t going to be able to open wide open holes between the tackles for our current RB’s that all NEED those open holes to run effectively. Smh. 🤦‍♂️ Such a simple concept to grasp, only for the decision to be fumbled away, again…

Offensively their potential looks very good. Defense is the question mark although they seem formidable enough. When their defensive ends ( 3 of them ) heal, then the Dolphins may possibly look like a strong contender across the board.

Miami's O line still needs a lot of help. Tua choked in the 4th in all the big games where he had to perform. Without a significant improvement in the O line, we will see the same thing again and he could get injured as well. However, the biggest surprise to me in the NFL last year was Tua making it through the whole season. Do not expect Fins to win the division. Texans, Bills, Chiefs, Bengals, Titans, Ravens all have a better shot at the AFC title game than the Dolphins.

    • @StevedaGreek

Tua stayed fit as he released the ball quick all the time, he couldn't hold onto it for any period because of how weak the oline is (injury wise). OBJ tends to get free late on in routes, he'll need to get open quicker once the Dolphins oline inevitably get bashed up again

Season will be dictated by the team’s health, primarily the OL. If the OL can be 80% healthy throughout the season the team will make the playoffs. If the OL can perform as well as it did in the early and mid season(prior to all the big injuries) the offense will only be better which equates to more points scored and allows the D to do what it’s designed for and that’s perform at its best with a lead..if the new additions in D backfield and DLine shine and keep things steady until we get our heavyweight PR’s Chubb and Phillips back at full strength the team can be in great shape.
Game plan, score lots of points really fast using the fear of being beat deep and taking what’s given in the short/medium passing game plus lightning run game. Give Tua time to distribute and aggravate the D into finally trying to make a play and Boom that’s when you send em for deep 6!!
D’s will be completely off balance. Once the opposing offense feels like they need to keep pace is when we blast them in the face..they will have to throw, that’s when we let the dogs upfront go, speed up the QB’s throw and our ball hawks in the secondary feast on crow.

Patrick Paul won't contribute this season (He's a pure OT, those spots are taken, plus he needs to develop). He should be a factor in 2025 if Armstead retires. The challenge for Miami's offense is interior OL. Wynn is back but he's injured nearly every year. C is new and a different player. RG is a ? Right now it's Driscoll v Eichenberg v Jones. The OL has to play well and remain healthy. And they need to be top 5, not top 10, on offense with the D likely starting slowly due to a new D system, lots of turnover, and still question-marks at CB, DT, & Chubb & Phillips coming off injury. Eventually the D should be very good by mid-season on if they stay healthy. Health will be a major key. Stay healthy and they can compete for a SB.

"Miami had a lot of injuries going into the Wildcard game." Oh no, no, no. They were, overall, fielding an NFL team's bench. No Holland, X, Jaelan Phillips, Chubb, Ginkel, Baker, Connor Williams, or Wynn. Mostert, Tyreek, Waddle, Armstead, and Elliott were all nowhere near healthy. So they were down eight starters with another five playing while limping on the field.
Miami last year constantly got shot in the foot and did it themselves. McDaniel was fucking horrendous all year after September, Fangio was bad, injuries galore, Tyreek choking in every big game, Chubb never finishing sacks, penalties galore, etc. People will cry about Tua, but I'm not sure what anyone wants from him when you got that much going against him. Hell, I'm old enough to remember people, correctly, not blaming him for the Super Bowl loss against Tampa because his OL couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag.
Miami's ability to do something this upcoming season is entirely dependent on McDaniel getting his head out of his ass and the Weaver hire just making Miami's defense respectable against better teams. If they can just do those two things, they can be a real contender to win the AFC.

Ocho doesn’t understand that you take concussions his play was better before the injury. Then after they were simplistic plays that they were playing and that’s why their receivers got injured. His timing is off. He couldn’t run for a first down in the playoffs. Your QB has to be able to run for first downs every once in a while.

Tua isn’t an accurate or consistent QB that’s why Miami should not pay him. I would only say change his contract if he takes Miami to a Super Bowl this year & if he doesn’t then keep him where he’s at because beside his concussion protocols on top of his in accuracy from throwing to high or to low or totally off an way past the receiver or way short which we seen for the past several seasons with star receivers around him an I will say our Oline hasn’t been at full strength so he is under pressure often but his pocket presence as well as his ability to maneuver an hold on to the ball is terrible, he literally looks like a folding chair when the defense is breaking through and at his age an in his position he should be able to make the right call by either tucking an taking it to ground or maybe running for a few down field to get positive yards or have that second option on every down an know who your open receiver going to be an where you should throw if defense is coming in hot, I will say he has progressed over his span of playing but not to caliber that u feel confident that he will get us to playoffs or prove that he is worth what he expects and thinks he deserves when literally Hill had carried team as well as Mostert an Waddle & Achane amongst others who have gone above and beyond for the team when in my eyes there’s games Tua looks decent an others where I’m like okay wtf what’s he thinking what’s he seeing & why is he so inconsistent on all aspects of being a good QB. In the NFL you need to show up every game not half ass it & everybody have atleast 1 off game but he’s had more then several almost every game I’m shaking my head or wondering what he saw or thought was going to happen an his performance is mediocre not up to the caliber of a Brady or Rodgers & I believe Ryan Tannehill and Ryan Fitzpatrick was the 2 best QBs I seen since Marino, Tua may have good stats due to people like Tyreek Hill and Waddle as well as others breaking there necks just to make plays for Tua like literally chancing injuries with way he doesn’t get the ball to the numbers, he’s got them twisting turning reaching back an taking big hits, both Hill an Waddle as well as others have been put in bad situations because of Tuas inability/ inaccuracy to be able to lead his receiver or get it to there hands where it should be, literally when Tua throws it’s almost like he’s closing his eyes an hoping for best 😆 ima die hard Miami fan since I’m born an I will forever support them but as a fan I gotta say Tua is not it an idk how long it’s going to take for everybody to agree an realize that, they keep saying that he’s working on getting better and beside him boosting stats I don’t see his improvements in-fact nothing but disappointment, that draft year I truly wish we would’ve got Josh Allen or someone with real strength an Talent an progression takes time but not forever I mean Tuas about to be on his 5th year witty Dolphins an if we do not see the playoffs I’d start thinking about drafting a QB next round because like I said we got a lot of talent on the Dolphins I just don’t think Tua is one of them hopefully he prove me wrong I’d love to see that but deep down I know that’s a laugh 😆 😂

It's not tua it's the offensive line he can't go through all of the reads cause the line can't hold there blocks long enough so then he has to get the ball out quick to his 1st or 2nd read why do u think only tyreek or waddle gets thrown to there were lots of plays last year tua would force the ball into tyreek or waddle cause the de was on him so he couldn't see the 3rd or 4th option in the passing game cause the line he can't make it that far down the Reed list

They were only scary at the start of last season. Once teams figured them out none of the good teams were scared of them. The team is worse now than last year in terms of OL and DL. This team won't do better than last year, they might do worse - significant opponent injuries not withstanding.
