It all feels similar to the fact that a team can win a session in a Test with a great performance by a player or two, even if they're ultimately thrashed. A couple of teams look better than the others so far.
I originally thought that the tournament followed a US style league followed by playoffs (QF's etc) system which would increase the jeopardy. It seems another mini league is a mechanism which theoretically helps the big boys in an expanded WC, in case one or more minnows made it through the first group stage, perish the thought.
Group A finalists Aus and Afg.
Group B finalists Windies and South Africa.
In fact Group B is s cakewalk compared to Group A.
The seding system may hurt the money that ICC makes.
No India in semi final means less takers for Ad spots.

What are your thoughts on the super 8 groups being pre seeded vs determined by actual standings.. Firstly it's made a bunch of games in the last two days redundant - esp the wi vs afg one.. Shouldnt India and Australia have been in separate groups?

I actually didn't understand the format of the "rankings" here... Like, is it the same as IPL? So strongest to weakest? If so, have you genuinely put the USA in the second position over Australia, SA and Afghanistan?

Fantastically fun World Cup? Maybe...How about the ICC organising a structure that has 3 pool winners in one Super 8 group? How about England's commentariat bleating about the Spirit of Cricket before Australia beat Scotland to allow the Poms through, then saying nothing about how England benefits from being in a group with only one pool winner? The Super 8s should have been pool winners in each group, but that might make some teams feel vulnerable...

Afghanistan have been completely screwed by the ranking system, finished top of their group but not rewarded for it, in the super 8's. This needs to change for the next tournament.

I'm surprised they even showed up 🤣.Instead England have been put into the easy group based on rankings points before the tournament. In every other sporting format I have ever seen, topping your group counts in some way.

Okay, am I missing something here? Slightly confused, but West Indies and Afghanistan haven't played yet, so doesn't that mean West Indies can still top the group, and then the Super 8 groups would be different to what you're saying here?
You didn’t really rank the teams though. Fair assessment but not really a power rankings
Semi Finalist Should be West Indies, England, Australia and India or Bangladesh, with probably a West indies vs Australia final.
For me South Africa and India are too inconsistent when the pressure is on them and USA and Afghanistan don't have the fire power to be in the semi finals yet.
Any of these teams could win it from here, maybe not Afghanistan and USA, really interesting to see who performs at thier best.
Australia finished 1st position but ICC counting as 2nd finished. Some cind of fixing is done by ICC officials.

Also your analysis of India is lacking - their batting has also looked somewhat rickety despite that NY pitch being a stinker. South Africa played three of their T20s on that NY pitch and you (rightfully or not) criticise SA's batting then don't see why the same reasoning should not apply to the Indian batting?
