Garstka hit me right in the feels with that 5/16 section
Te amo
First time I heard this song, I didn’t even know Matt was playing drums. I remember thinking to myself that Nathan’s playing sounded strangely like Matt’s in this song. Low and behold, it’s actually Matt playing. Just shows how much of an amazing drummer he is. Love AAL and love CHON!
by far the most interesting song on this album.
indeed
They need to get Matt to do more features honestly. This and book are my absolute favorites.
There's always that one that sparks the whole album lol
This one and pitch dark off their recent record are their most experimental in terms of tone and melodic structure. They both have a forboding tone which I really really like. That being said Knot and Splash still go absolutely crazy
Parts of this sounds kinda Zelda inspired.
Dude, you guys create real beauty. It's a privilege for me to enjoy it.
White privilege, more like. amirite?
Taylor Hill Mario actually said on facebook that CHON wouldn't sound the same without the Zelda series IIRC.
Greenbear topkek
Greenbear Male Patriachy
There is no need to be upset.
Shit the album is over, I guess I'll just have to listen to it 1000 more times this week
I feel mesmerized by this whole album, it's beautiful!!
Hey! I've been trying to get into contact with you because I watched your Rings Of Saturn - No Pity For A Coward cover (Loved it btw, great job) Anyway. I need tips on how to hit those super high screams. I'm not sure how the best way to contact you is to even get these tips but I'd love to hear something from you! You could gmail me for a response which I think would be best. Idk if it shows it up there but johnsonguy13@gmail.com
Thanks!
Oh shit hi austin

When the drums come In, count 8 measures of 4, 16 measures in 2, and start counting in 3. It's soooo cool
listened to this track like 5 times already! Great work on the whole CD guys! This is one of our favorites for sure!
You guys are beasts
And now it's time for your full-length CD, your EP was brilliant!
The drums at 1:44. Psssh Matt Gartska just goes off.
I know this is an old comment, but I just couldn't believe there weren't more comments on that part. I seriously think that Matt just ascends to a plateau only a few drummers have reached on that part.
One of the best hes done...like it prepared the madness of manys drumwork
This one is particularly AAL-esque, definitely my favourite
Henry Griggs Considering Garstkas on this track that probably why haha
Chonimals As Leaders
you member drew peliski in the band you memberrrr????
that might be because Matt Garstka from AAL recorded the drums in this one
They really were ahead of their time
Never purchased and album before, but I saw these guys at a show and was so impressed that I bought all of their EPs. I just wanted to give these guys my money so the could produce more beautiful music.
This song reminds me of Snarky Puppy. Don't know why. Great song!
Alkan Kartal It's pretty fusion-y so it'd make sense
All these guys with expectations. Just let it be beautiful.
1:06 that 7/8
The bass gives this song such a dark vibe, I love it
Beautiful Work Garstka
I too felt this album was a little to different from what I was used to from chon. Then I listened to it a million times like I did for the rest of their music. God this album is beautiful.
Makes me feel like i am in an anime/video game and I am not complaining. Totally digging it 😍😍
I think I broke the replay button..
Same here ❤
If you only focus on one thing for the entirety of one of these songs it's still interesting. That's pretty freaking awesome.
Oh wow... That's amazing. I've never heard that blend of beauty with a hint of spookiness. That's a very interesting dynamic and it works incredibly well. Amazing job...
freakin matt is the best

I could listen to this all day long.
Matt Garstka is the drummer for Animals as Leaders
Animals as Leaders is the drummer for Matt Garstka
Animals as leaders makes backing tracks for matt garstka to warm up
+Mary Jane Don't know what else to add so... here's the recipe for Tortillas with salt.
Ingridients:
-Tortillas
-Salt
1.Heat up the Tortilla
2.Sprinkle salt on it
3.Roll
4.Enjoy

OMG the first time i heard you guys i was like "ahhh what they would be like with Matt Garstka" and here it is, fucking everything i expected and more. Brilliant minds at work here \m/
I'm straight, but I hope if I gave Gartska a Paradiddle-diddle tuggy, he'd respond with a patafla-fla rim job
+jalen roark There's only one logical explanation to this level of drumming... Gartska is an Octopus disguised as a human being
jalen roark he can flam my diddle
You mean Matt Godska.
Meat Godstka
I'd let Matt flam tap dat ass any day
This is fukin Jazz and i love it :)
Best album I've heard from 2015. Can't wait til veil of mayas next one!
Amazing
So epic
This is literally the purest band I'm shook
the intro gives me goosebumps
I must buy this album.
This might be the best song ever.
i will always snowboard to this album
Once I got to this song and realized the album was over I was sad that it couldn't last forever :(
1:44 Tempting Time.
yep
Chonimals as leaders
also listen to the end 3:18 reminds me of the intro of Te mato from javier reyes
Nice! it's so amazing! The Felling is cool! Great work guys!
Infinitely stoked to see you nerds in Columbus tomorrow. I caught you last time with AAL and have been a huge fan ever since. Love the new album, has a lot of flavor and emotion. Well done.
I LIKE
i love this song. nothing explains my break up more than this song.
so funny as soon as i heard this band for the first time i started relating it to animals as leaders and heres matt garstka killing it as always
i love chon and would give this album a 10/10 but i understand what ppl mean when they complain about their tone changing. i loved chons sounds before now its just fuller the mixing and mastering are done much better
This group is so amazing! I love the musical communication. Passing on rhythms to unison rhythms(especially in the drums). Lots jazz influence I also assume? Jazz influence or not the rhythms, harmony, time signatures, etc are just amazing!
Thanks for this, guys!
The Opeth influence in this is high.
Word! Was looking for this in the comments section to make sure I wasn't going crazy
Album titled grow but i dont feel like have at all. Still sounds like same old chon. Just mellower over all.
the beginning reminds me of some opeth instrumentals^^ the feeling of "yeah, keep it going" and "everythings ok" then come the hicups and I'm like ah, right, this is chon, it has to be crazy^^
0:50 bro 🤘🏻😎
I use this album specifically to get me motivated. When I'm listening to it I can study much more efficiently and can run a mile or two with ease. When I forget to bring my headphones, I can't finish my workout or read even one whole chapter. In a way, this album lived up to it's name. Grow made me grow.
Butt*
Its awesome while you are high :D
my favorite track had no idea it was feat Matt G fuck yeah
This song is by far the most unique song, I can freestyle a rap here tho :')
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD OH MY GOD
165 comments... It's interesting that people have so much to say about a song with no words
Chon + Matt Garstka was too powerful and had to be contained to just a few songs
CHON 4 PREZ
I FUCKING LOVE THIS SOOOOOOOONG!
Forgot about this song and literally thought it was AaL bc Matt's style and tone (hi hats and snare)
i was hoping to hear Matt's vocals til the end :D
How can anyone dislike this? :(
1:58 onwards is intimate
So Chon, Polyphia and Strawberry Girls are all going on tour this year. Hype?
Please help I taped my parents to the ceiling and I don’t know who to call
are they still hangin´?
I wish people would stop saying how a particular artist reminds them of another. Use your imagination and figure out a more intelligent way of comparing
Does anyone know what kind of Jazz influences CHON or any of the guitarists have had in the past and now? Curious as to what drove and inspired them.
return to forever. al di meola. glasper. .
Why is there no playthrough or live for this song in particular?
The intro reminds me to Opeth
Thanks guys :)
So much better than the drum sound on the song Pitch Dark!
"Hey guys we're CHON, this song's called 'But'"
Dirty D's favorite song! Except he calls this one "plumper"
definitely imagine a final boss to this.
All these comments about who and what their music is like, and not once do I see an Opeth reference, even here on this song. You tube audience, you are slacking!
You guys are gonna love the comments down below :D
haha that's such a Garstka sounding drum part
This album is called grow
Here are the lyrics if you don't know them btw
I'm pretty positive (aside from all of the whiskey) that this is the absolute tits. I mean cmon, what a genius song.
Whenever it comes to 3, gtfo of Matts way.
So true
whenever it comes to drums...****
I'm a bit disappointed in the amount of new material on this album and don't really like the changes they made to their old stuff.
This song is my favourite tho and it's really awesome, hoping to hear more like this in the future.
ha! the song is called but.
why cant this be its own genre
So when did Plini start writing for chon?
How is this so beautiful and then you listen to animals as leaders and it sounds like a bunch of guys banging trash cans to together
wow, this is very exivious-ish, sooner or later these kids will be in guitar world's cover
Guise I need halp. Can someone maybe link me to a lesson or maybe describe to me on here how to do those fills from 1:45-2:00 Ive been trying to learn them for months now but I just cant learn it by ear.
this might help a bit
