Normally, we say, “fell flat on his face.” Or, in reference to a friend, with an intention to tease a little, “face planted.”

In Russian pronunciation does it help to make the sounds farther towards the front of the mouth than in English?
FYI "smashed his face" is not a normal phrase in English (or so I believe). It is an exaggeration (unless for example he has been hit by a bus and is in intensive care, when it isn't) usually used boastfully by someone who has been in a fight and claims to have soundly beaten his opponent by "smashing his face in". The usual description of a childhood injury would be more specific e.g. "cut his lip", or "broken a tooth" or "gashed his chin", etc. (However if you deliberately intended exaggeration, then of course you are correct.)

I thought the word for beach was "bereeg". In Belarus theere's a town called Krasny Bereeg. Red Beach according to my wife. I did some research on it. The town is not far from Bobriusk. During operation Bagration in 1944 30,00 Germans had been forced into the city and area around it with the Berezina river at their back. One night 19000 German soldiers tried to cross the river. The Russians found them. Only 900 made it to the German lines. Ouch.
