  • Here is my planner channel / @mamakatshomeplans I don't PR for her, I just love her so here is Fran from @grandplans shop www.etsy.com/s... Amazon Storefront www.amazon.com... Today we are sharing how we built quail feeders. We made a mistake but it was a learning experience. Just goes to show that we can all learn from our mistakes.

      Thanks, I have a couple more videos on other feeders as well. You might want to check them out but I am not just trying to get views. If you don't want to that is fine. I do want to thank you for watching this one though. 😀 Have a great day.

    How much feed waste do you have with that style of feeder? I'm genuinely wanting to know because I'm buying Quail soon.

    • @MamaKatsHome
      @MamaKatsHome  4 года назад +2

      The way they are the quail can't scratch it out, so not much. They are placed in a way that is high enough they can't reach in to scratch but can reach in to eat easily. Also we use crumbled feed because when we used pellets they didn't like it much and found a way to scratch it out. Not sure how they did it though. We do have sand boxes in with them because they need to scratch at things normally so we put meal worm treats in with the sand for them to find.

      Too much wasted food. Quail sling their heads side to side while eating. Much better to get a Tupperware style bowl and cut circles out around the top about 1 inch around. Then cut a hole in the top to slide a pipe into for refilling. Just my thoughts but I've got about 40 quail and that's what i use. I've omly lost about 1/2 cup or less food in 2 or 3 weeks.

      There is no food waste with these and we've been using them for a couple of years.

      We've never hatched any of the eggs. I make pickled eggs with them. They have just about quit laying now because they are older and we never got more or hatched any. They are really just pets who gave us eggs.

    Kat, how could you injure your poor defenseless little Husband like that!! Jeff, I'm gonna call someone, but who.....can't be the Ghostbusters (even though you have Ghosteseseeessssseesess in your house), can't be PETA (cause the Quail weren't harmed), can't be the Ambulance (cause your shown further in the video still walking...), maybe Kat's 'In-Laws' (Nah, cause that not only hurts her but you as well, and no one really 'LIKES' talking to the In-Laws...)....dang, I'll have to give it a lot more thought!! In the meantime Jeff, make sure Kat keeps kissing your Boo-Boo!! LOL

      I really didn't mean to and it freaked me out when it happened. He didn't even say anything. I didn't know he was cut until it started bleeding because he didn't say anything or even make a face that would let me know he was hurt. I did take care of it and it is almost completely healed now.

    Wouldn’t it have been easier to just cut the bottom of the pvc at a slant then put it in the cap and cut a small section out so the feed will come down.

      I really don't know. My husband chose how to make them and they have worked well for years. If you try it the other way please let me know if it works so we can try it. Thank you so much for watching.

    A 3" hose clamp would work better and allow you to move the bracket without making a bunch of holes in the PVC. I hope that helps.

      The pipe dies not need to rctevd far about the to.of the cage. It's too far.out of reach and spills can occuriding good seed. Lowering the like is far more ethical pleasing and car less wastefull and overhill. Great idea just needs tweaking on the length of.pipe and you've got yourself a pretty good.littke feeder there.

    • @MamaKatsHome
      @MamaKatsHome  4 года назад

      The pipe isn't too high and we don't spill. We have been using it like almost two years and it has been very easy to fill. If some did happen to spill it would go straight to the chickens in the bottom anyway.
