I could have memorized it, but I also have a full time orchestra job, a family, and a tremendous amount of other music to perform at any given STS. I make no apologies for having music in front of me for a performance like this.
By far the best and most musical performance of this familiar trombone classic! I am awestruck to enjoy what is usually a boring familiarity.

No, he used a lip trill
I played this as part of my recital for my master's degree and I had it memorized. A faculty member should be able to memorize it as well.

There are advantages to playing from memory and playing from sheet. Memory puts me in the moment while the sheet lets me see what is coming!
