I just find it so amazing how Tony and Steve evolved over the course of these movies. The fact that their dichotomy remains intact the entire time, even to the point where their basic motivations are switched, and that it's BELIEVABLE, is a miracle of storytelling and only made possible in something like the MCU.
Yeah I think it helps that the directors kept changing and the actors probably had a lot say, especially rdj. So the continuity moves while being consistent!
That sentence about Vision was so moving. Vision symbolizes what we all hope for our future to be. A romance between humanity and machine. Working together for each other. That’s beautiful
"Vision is called Vision because of the visions Thor had in his visions." Absolutely love this insightful video. Makes me realised how lucky we are to live through this Infinity Saga.
You are absolutely one of the most well spoken people I've ever heard. How long does it take you to work up a script you're happy with? You're so succinct and you speak with such purpose, I have to imagine it takes time to remove the fluff from what you're trying to say. You are singlehandedly changing the video-essay game, honestly. Keep up the good work!
Holy cow thanks! That's incredibly flattering of you! It takes around 2 days depending on the length, what really helps though is that I just break it down normally into around 3 sections with about 3 paragraphs each, I wasn't sure if this one was written as well because it was longer than what I'm used while distracted with uni work, so that's really relieving to hear that you enjoyed it! :)
bro i literally just finished rewatching both your Guardians of the Galaxy videos and got done happy crying because the ending montage for Vol.2 hit close to home for a lot of shit in my life then i go back to the homepage and this was posted 20 minutes ago i think we're spiritually linked across time and space
I genuinely love Cap and Tony, but to be honest I never really bought their "two sides of the same coin" friendship the way I did with Steve+Bucky or Tony+Rhodey. The characters just seemed too different from one another. This video highlighting the role of technology in both their lives has made me reconsider this stance. Great work !
They are each others shadow but the positive version of it. The dark side that their ego's are running away from out of fear instead of embracing out of hope.
Can someone please explain to me how this guys' channel doesn't already have hundreds of thousands of subs? Seriously, this the best character-study esque channel I've ever seen. Amazing, quality content that never disappoints. I love it.
I recommend these videos all the time on others sites with millions of subscribers. Someday he will have millions too 😉 we just have to keep working at getting the name out there.
Love that intro, especially that pause for “Jarvis, drop my needle.” Loved this video, can’t wait for part 3 and watch it all again from part 1. Great work!!
Wow... Dude, you knocked it out of the park again man. These 2 videos so far are so damn good. I love how you go so in depth with this and all of it is so interesting and it makes me love these characters and movies even more. And while you explain everything, it all just makes so much sense. It's incredible that the filmmakers were able to put all this in and that you can extract all of these themes and ideas and everything out of it. Love your videos so much man! I'm always excited when you post again. And I'm really looking forward to your phase 3 one. I know it'll be amazing
In my opinion Iron Man 3 is the best solo MCU movie. The fact that it is irrelevant to other MCU movies and works as a great standalone movie is mind blowing. It carries different and unique formula thanks to Shane Black. The humour and action set pieces is on point. The soundtrack is well...it's been 7 years and I still find myself humming it everyday.
Your analysis of Ironman 3 is spot on. Tony's character development is what makes the story so great, and thus I am always confused when I hear people say they did not like it, or even that it is bad. Ironman 3 is the story about the man, not the suit, the core that makes the being, not the mask or shell.
I wouldn't say Steve didn't find happiness or fit in on Barton's farm because his values had changed. I would say he didn't fit in because he was alone. He was still living most aspects of his life in the present, but his social life was in the past. Peggy Carter was who he loved, and that love bound him to the past; bound to a memory, a failed hope, and a broken promise; bound to the guilt. And while he had started to make some close friends, all but Sam were superficial or kept at arm's length. It would not be until later that he allowed himself to be either romantically hopeful or to truly have friends again. He didn't value solitude, or a soldier's life over family life; he just didn't belong.
Huh! Vision picks up Mjolnir (Thor’s hammer) right in front of the Cap, in the screen shot, may have been a visual in your window I bet of the future concerning the Cap and the hammer.
Hey man. I’ve just recently chanced upon your channel and I’m really enjoying your videos! You’re one of the few people on RUclips that make complex yet digestible character analyses and I’m really loving your work. By the way, I can’t place your accent. Which country were you brought up in? Also, could you post your sources here on in the description? I’d be interested in reading some of those articles myself. Ok, story time. I’ve been a fan of literature since I could read. I’d enjoyed stories in all their forms, but books always held a special place for me. I loved diving into characters and themes and whatnot during class (with the interesting books tho) and just any story in genera, really. Then I made the brilliant choice of picking pure literature as one of my subjects during my IB course, and let me tell you, it was not fun. What was exciting and relatable became dry and prosaic. It was kinda like doing math. ‘This resembles so and so, thus insert Theme X’. That’s not to say it was the same for others, or that my teacher was bad, she just couldn’t get to me. I’d recently transferred over cities and into a different educational board as well as school, so I don’t have the same background to build off of, so there was just this fundamental disconnect. Ok all right I take it back. She was kind of a bad teacher, but for me. I was like an outside context problem for her. It didn’t help that I was dealing with depression at the time, along with trouble with my parents. It was only towards the end of my time there that I rediscovered that old spark with a friend. My whole point is, finding your channel has kinda been like that. P.S. The reason I offloaded all of that here is I haven’t slept for a day, with only 12 hours spread out over 60 hours (and damn if that didn’t take me a minute to calculate) and it’s 5:30 am over here. Anyways, off to your other videos.
Peter Dibble Joker held my interest more than every movie in the MCU combined. Masterful acting with thoughtful score and cinematography to match beats cheap jokes and even cheaper looking cgi.
Good video. If what you found there is what they put their intentionally, then it says a lot about the quality if writing. I enjoy the MCU films because i like the characters in them. I can rewatch them for that reason.
Thanks! And yeah I tend to look at storytelling less about intent and more as an negotiation, where the storyteller maps out as many ideas as possible and the joy as an audience is being able to notice patterns and making meaning on a personal level, but hey that could just be me :)
@@ImplicitlyPretentious I think that writers put things in to their stories without being aware they are doing it sometimes. But it does remind me of the scene in the movie back to school where Kurt Vonnegut Wright's Rodney Dangerfield's thesis about Kurt Vonnegut and the professor gives Rodney Dangerfield an f and tells him whoever wrote the paper did not know the first thing about Kurt Vonnegut.
Both of Wanda's visions sent to Tony and Steve came true in Endgame, Steve ending up with Peggy after the fighting ends and Tony's fear of the Avengers destruction at the hands of extraterrestrial forces come to Earth, represented by Steve's shield breaking. It's weird how much more meaning gets added to Age of Ultron at the end of phase 3. I mean, sure, neither of them saw Scott and his rat savior coming but who could have seen "You all would be saved by Antman's rat?" Next movie after Ultron introduced Hank Pym, Pym particles and Scott, what a coincidence....
I think it shows how good the Russo’s bro’s are. Because whedon made great movies and did a great job. But the Russo’s had to actually send these characters off. And they did. And did it well
Thanks, I may repeat myself here and there since I had to reintroduce some concepts at the end and the at begining, so hopefully that won't be too annoying
Good essays. The problem with Winter Soldier is Hydra. It's a "cake and eat it too" plot contrivance that essentially allows the film to dodge its own politics - hey, it's Nazis! He's fighting Nazis, not *really* big capital because that's... um... America. And so on, so forth.
I just find it so amazing how Tony and Steve evolved over the course of these movies. The fact that their dichotomy remains intact the entire time, even to the point where their basic motivations are switched, and that it's BELIEVABLE, is a miracle of storytelling and only made possible in something like the MCU.

Love the video.

“Marvel movies aren’t cinema”
Implicitly Pretentious: “Hold my beer”
This drawing the line between Ultron and winter soldier is great.

"Vision is called Vision because of the visions Thor had in his visions."

The so called "worst sentence" in this essay is the most accurate description for Vision.

That IS an interesting wall, certainly more interesting than The Joker was.

7:33 I read that as “confused child with no arms.” 😅 hey he’s still got one!
Here I am enriching my vocabulary with your new essay
Thank you for the hard work!
Thank you for this man
Thanks for watching man!
Bring me part 3! And after that maybe a black panther/ant-man series/incredible hulk analysis
😂😭I love the description! ❤️
Lol thanks, I wasn't sure if anyone would notice it :)

Edit: three-parters are even better!
Thanks! The final third part should be coming up soon!
Awesome! This is amazing 👍
Thank you so much!
None of us has finished the video yet
Well I hope it was alright!
Probably hear this on here a lot, but what's that song in his opening to every video called?
Lol yeah I do, but no worries it's called OK Pop ko and you can get the whole track if you search it on RUclips
@@ImplicitlyPretentious You took the best part of it, though! Or maybe it's because I heard it in your videos first...
That was a great anime intro tbh lmao
Damn I didn't even notice that lol

WarGames must've shared the shit out of Steve Rogers.

Great vid but, quick nitpick, you should spell ‘judgment’ without an ‘e’. Awesome work!
It's spelled Judgement
You were not kidding when you said to change underpants.
Yes!!
Thanks!
I will watch both parts again soon, I think.

I tried to give the most accurate summary possible over the plot and characters of each film with no changes or distractions from other franchises

A bit off topic here, but Lucasfilm should be using writers of political thrillers and religious manipulation stories.
