@@mark-ut3pm No, I (the author of the OP) did not use conjecture. I used quotes from the Sukhoi engineers themselves who stated the Su-57 was based on the Su-35. This video cherry picked a single statement out a lengthy post and completely mischaracterized it. Either way, his counter argument is rubbish. I claimed the planes were based on a similar internal airframe, and stated that they only differ in significance on the outside, he cannot dismiss my statement by saying "they aren't the same, look how different they are on the outside!" His rebuttal is nonsense and reaffirms my original statement.
Pretty sure the Wright Flyer had a much more reasonable operating cost per hour and logistics chain (complete repair/reassembly by two people with some spare driftwood after crash was possible).

The problem with quora is that the answer at the top is the one that's most agreed with, not necessarily the correct answer. So all it takes is one moron and a bunch of people to read what he wrote and say "that sounds about right" for something to become the default answer regardless of its accuracy. No one should *ever* use Quora as a source of information for that very reason.
Integrity means telling the whole truth. Su-57 wngineers all state, that the basis for the su-57 wing is the Flanker, They view the Flankers wing as the best performing in the world. What changed it then. Reconfiguring the wing to incorporate low observable planform as well. It is built to perform like a Flanker, while making a poor attempt at stealth.

This is also an old fake claim. People will claim that Russians lie about specs but when you ask them, what did they lie about on MiG-29 or SU-30, SU-35, SU-27? They have no answer. In fact American pilots who have flown Russian fighters praise their abilities. Great video, but there are few errors I would like to point out if you don’t mind?! First, the Su-57 does have LERX, and it is cranked LERX with frontal movable part we call LEVCON, and the fixed aft part that produces vortices. But many people don’t realize that at higher AoA LEVCON’s generate vortices which are merged with the vortices made by the aft/fixed part of the Su-57 LERX. I have made a video called “PAK-FA vortex”, and there in the slow motion you can see the formation of the vortices at the leading edge of the LEVCON, and you can also see how they disappear, and transition to the fixed part of the LERX as the AoA is decreasing. LEVCON’s have many roles, since they can act as canards, LE flaps, and they can be used for directional control at high AoA. At the take off, when the pilot is puling the stick, LEVCON’s are having positive/upward deflection. In doing so they are creating additional lift in front of the center of gravity inducing the pitching up moment. At the same time, all moving vertical tails are also deflecting in opposite direction in relation to each other to put the extra pressure on the back of the plane along with the horizontal tail creating significant pushing force. In combination with LEVCON's, this creates strong moment arm around center of gravity for much sooner rotation of the plane during take off. As the plane is increasing the angle of attack, the lift force is building up, and the LEVCON’s are going from upward to neutral position and all moving horizontal and vertical tails are going to positive and neutral position creating more lift. Further lift build up creates additional pitch up moment and the LEVCON’s are going from neutral to negative deflection to arrest that unwanted motion. Since the whole body of the Su-57 is made from different sets of airfoils, negative deflection of the LEVCON’s is creating increased curvature of the airfoil further increasing the lift coefficient. We can also see that the LEVCON’s are having just a few degrees of positive deflection and that is correlated with highly relaxed longitudinal stability of the plane. Modern fighters usually fix their longitudinal instability at 3% the average aerodynamic chord length. With further relaxing of the longitudinal stability Su-57 enjoys a significant improvement in lift-to-drag ratio. Relaxing the longitudinal instability is not only increasing take-off and landing characteristics, and maximizing low-speed lift characteristics, but could also enhance trans-sonic lift to drag characteristics and improve super sonic lift to drag capabilities. Yet an increase in longitudinal instability will also increase the burden on high AOA pitch down controls which in pure tail configuration would be absolutely inadequate. The Russians have made excellent solution with a creation of LEVCON’s that can control pitch rate at post stall region without the help of the TVC, and can also provide directional controlability at extreme conditions. In my opinion, the main reason why the Russian designers have managed to drastically decrease the size of the vertical tails, lies in the fact that LEVCON’s can increase the stall limit, and can restore laminar airflow over the airframe at high AoA, thus negating the need for the huge vertical tails that need to be very high in order for the upper part to be positioned above the turbulent airflow that is usually associated with classical fixed LERX. As you stated, LEVCON’s can shift the aerodynamic center, or the center of lift, but that is not only useful because of the weapons storage, but also for the supersonic flight regime, where shock wave causes the center of lift to shift aft, causing the nose to pitch down, and at the same time disturbing stability/instability of the plane. This considerably reduces maneuverability of the plane and increases the drag because the plane needs to use aerodynamic surfaces to counter the pitch down motion and to trim the plane in level flight. For example, the F-35 needs to use the horizontal tails (negative deflection) to pitch the nose up. By doing so the plane is losing lift and at the same time increasing the drag. The plane such as J-20 has significant advantage compared to the F-35 because it can use positive canard deflection to pitch up. Since the canard is placed in front of center of gravity, it can use positive deflection, thus not reducing the overall lift, but at some point (depending on speed and height) induced drag/downwash from the canard will have negative impact on the main wing, so positive canard deflection is reduced to certain level and the plane needs to use other control surface for trimming, such as flaperons that reduce the lift and increase the drag. Su-57 on the other hand can use positive deflection of the LEVCON’s which provides superior lift to drag ratio without negative effects of the canards (induced drag/downwash). Positive deflection here doesn’t necessarily mean that the LEVCON is deflected above the center line, but positive in relation to the incoming air flow. That means that the plane can fly supersonic with LEVCON’s in the fixed position relative to the center line, which is enough to restore the center of the lift to the wanted position that is the most beneficial for the lift to drag ratio. Hope you don’t mind me pointing out these things?!

yesterday su-57 was doing aerobatics above my home. It was very powerfull and loud, i heard how it turned its engines on and off mid flight. I will remember this for my whole life. When it started roaring above my house and i went outside i just couldnt move my eyes from it, it felt surreal how it was doing cobras above me. From what i heard it was also THE FIRST flying su-57 model, and it was doing all this fancy things to boost qualification of the pilot. also it didn't sound like a kettle lol

SU 35 is 4th ++ generation, and what Russians do now they are upgrading it with some good stuff from SU 57. Its amazing how dumb asses who dont know shit about aviation encourage here to say something stupid. Did you know that americans do same upgrades to old F 15? Same F 15 which is 4th generation.
With all the differences in frame, it'd be so much harder to build a Su-57 out of the Su-27/35 than just going for a clean sheet. Not to mention the fact that in aerospace changing the airframe usually needs rethinking the whole math. A lot of "updates" to modern aircraft which feature different aerofoil are in fact only the same for PR purposes and in reality they barely share any parts with the predecessor.

There appears to be an argument that aerodynamics no longer matter, at least for our adversaries. They are saying the SU57 is antique because it’s not as LO as the F22 and they don’t consider its range, speed or super maneuverability. The aargument says that only LO matters because you cannot outrun a missile and this is false. Even playing DCS showed me that this is false missiles can be outrun! Maneuverability also allows for you to take a shot first!
There was a record of conversation between Su-34 pilots and air traffic control (or A-50 AWACS crew) where the air traffic control helped them avoid Patriot missiles. The fact that a completely non-stealth Su-34 evaded 3 patriot missiles by maneuvering and running away is proof enough stealth is not be-all and end-all.
LO value is relative. Paint a cargo plane black and it's invisible in the 1920's. American aircraft's primary detectors are surface based, meaning that they have to be LO enough to mitigate powerful surface based radars. Russian aircraft's primary detectors are western aircraft which have exponentially less powerful radars than surface based air defense systems. They don't need to be as LO because their primary threat has less capable radars.
Think it was Bob Hoover (among others..) who said if it looks good, it should fly good. Personal opinion, the Su-57 is the most beautiful aircraft ever built. It is a certainly is a highly capable aircraft with ridiculous maneuverability as well.

Su57 is just a Su35, just like a F22 is just a F15, and a F35 is just a F16, and the J20 is just a J10. j/k aircraft are usually evolutionary, because people don't like to take risk on a mutli billion dollar project. but to say they are the same aircraft is like saying Saturn V is the same rocket as the V2 since it evolve from it.

Boeing engineers (Everett plant) often spoke highly of Russian airplane designs. Many americans admire and have respect for russians, particularly, their creative people (engineers, scientists, philosophers, writers, athletes and artists). The sentiment caught me by surprise. The rejection is to their politicians, who also screw the russian people. Russia should, by all accounts, be a prosperous country, but corruption and bad administration has left it an impoverish wasteland. The ultimate example of how little the Kremlin cares for it's citizens, is that now they are throwing "meatwaves", generations of russians against generations of ukranians, eliminating them both from existence to apease the imperialistic aspirations of the big little tyrant. Disclaimer: I am neither from Russian nor the Anfglosphere, but have lived on both places. I honestly believe that the rest of the world wants Russia to come back to the table and see its economy succeed. And for its people to do better and achieve full potential.
I would have thought the strongest argument against the re-skinning theory is that if the SU-57 were a reskinned SU-35 then they would have been able to make more SU-57s so far than they actually have because they could re-use the SU-35 production lines. I know this channel is a fan of the SU-57, but really it would struggle to be on a par with the F-22 that is now at the end of it's career in the US, and is being built in such small numbers that no matter how good it is it won't make a difference - just look at it's (lack of) impact in the Ukraine war.

One very important detail that respected M7 forgot to mention as he noticed details about wings as most important aerodynamic surfaces. Su-57's wings have 30% more area then wings of Su-35S ,82sqm vs 62sqm ! More wing area means more lift. Also as he mentioned the centroplane of the Su-57 is much bigger . Thanks to much better aerodynamic layout,much better aerodynamic technical solutions,Su-57 has much lower aerodynamic drag,much bigger aerodynamic lift. So the coefficients of these two aerodynamic parameters are on the Su-57's side.That's not all, Su-57 can whitstand much bigger aerodynamic pressure ( as the relation of the G-force and the given in-flight weight ) in comparison with Su-35S. In fact, Su-57 is 10G-fighter, Su-35S is 9G-fighter. If we question ourself why all of those aerodynamic control surfaces ( LEVCONs, wings and vert./hor. stabilisers) are positioned as they are ,answer will be simple. To reduce aerodynamic drag and to reduce frontal and lateral RCS. Su-57 has much bigger vertical speed ( especially initial rate of climb), much better thrust to weight ratio in any given flight regime and of course that SEP. E.g. all-movable vert stabilisers of Su-57 are much smaller but the effective area of that aerodynamic control surface is much bigger in comparison with rudders on vert stabilisers of Su-35S. Pls take a look on the air intake ramps. Su-57 has horizontally positioned air intake ramps and in the same time they are more integrated besides central fuselage section. Su-35S has classic vertically positioned air intakes ramps like all other FFF ( Flanker Family Fighters). Su-57 has nothing to do with Su-35S if we speak about aerodynamics.

Reason is simple: all stealth fighters are in fact LO ( Low Observable) ,not VLO ( Very Low Observable) aircraft. Secondly, the Su-57 had many potential customers such as Egypt, Algeria, Iran, Malaysia and a few others but had to pull out due to CAATSA sanction imposed by the US Thirdly, Russian engineers did not focus on the stealth aspect for the back of the aircraft to give an edge on aerodynamic agility. There will always be people who are biased towards western technology (as of beeing superior). But underestimating your opponent and his technology is fatal in modern war. The Ukrainian war shows how overrated western technology is. Beeing on the other hand to at least more than 2-3 times more expensive that the eastern ones (Russian, Chinese, Iranian,...), it clearly show that most underrated feature in weapons is ratio: cost efficiency. Su57 is as good as it need to be to be produced in greater numbers if needed and for what the Russians need them according to their doctrine and economic justification. I see the differences, but I also see the similarities. Ever since it was first revealed as the Pak-50, I thought the Su-57 looked like a stealthified Su-35 with some upgraded systems. I've watched, listened to, and read content for more than a decade now, and none of it has provided compelling evidence that the Su-57 is anything else. That doesn't mean that it isn't a so-called 5th generation aircraft or at least closely approaching such a designation. It also doesn't mean that there hasn't been innovation associated with its stealthified design or the various requisite systems that we might expect to see on that type of aircraft. Indeed, they are not the same aircraft, but they are also not entirely unique aircraft designed separately from the ground up. The Su-57 has always appeared to be a Su-35 with a stealth body plan overlayed on top of it. Pointing out the specific differences involved in such an overlay that make it different from the shape of the non-stealth Su-35 doesn't do anything to demonstrate that it is an entirely different aircraft. All it means is that stealth necessitates differences between a traditionally layed out 4th generation aircraft. When you look at an F-22, it doesn't look like a stealthified F-15, but the Su-57 does look like a stealthified Su-35. The question for me is, why would this kind of observation upset anyone? It doesn't take anything away from the aircraft. It may say something about the designers or the amount of money available to Russian aircraft companies, but it really shouldn't be seen as detracting much from the aircraft itself. So this particular video leaves me mystified, and I doubt its going to change too many minds. Most of this is just based upon the appearance, and that's not going to change.

This video cherry picked a single statement out a lengthy post and completely mischaracterized it. Either way, his counter argument is rubbish.
I claimed the planes were based on a similar internal airframe, and stated that they only differ in significance on the outside, he cannot dismiss my statement by saying "they aren't the same, look how different they are on the outside!"

Great video, but there are few errors I would like to point out if you don’t mind?!
First, the Su-57 does have LERX, and it is cranked LERX with frontal movable part we call LEVCON, and the fixed aft part that produces vortices.
But many people don’t realize that at higher AoA LEVCON’s generate vortices which are merged with the vortices made by the aft/fixed part of the Su-57 LERX.
I have made a video called “PAK-FA vortex”, and there in the slow motion you can see the formation of the vortices at the leading edge of the LEVCON, and you can also see how they disappear, and transition to the fixed part of the LERX as the AoA is decreasing.
LEVCON’s have many roles, since they can act as canards, LE flaps, and they can be used for directional control at high AoA.
At the take off, when the pilot is puling the stick, LEVCON’s are having positive/upward deflection. In doing so they are creating additional lift in front of the center of gravity inducing the pitching up moment. At the same time, all moving vertical tails are also deflecting in opposite direction in relation to each other to put the extra pressure on the back of the plane along with the horizontal tail creating significant pushing force. In combination with LEVCON's, this creates strong moment arm around center of gravity for much sooner rotation of the plane during take off.
As the plane is increasing the angle of attack, the lift force is building up, and the LEVCON’s are going from upward to neutral position and all moving horizontal and vertical tails are going to positive and neutral position creating more lift. Further lift build up creates additional pitch up moment and the LEVCON’s are going from neutral to negative deflection to arrest that unwanted motion. Since the whole body of the Su-57 is made from different sets of airfoils, negative deflection of the LEVCON’s is creating increased curvature of the airfoil further increasing the lift coefficient.
We can also see that the LEVCON’s are having just a few degrees of positive deflection and that is correlated with highly relaxed longitudinal stability of the plane. Modern fighters usually fix their longitudinal instability at 3% the average aerodynamic chord length. With further relaxing of the longitudinal stability Su-57 enjoys a significant improvement in lift-to-drag ratio. Relaxing the longitudinal instability is not only increasing take-off and landing characteristics, and maximizing low-speed lift characteristics, but could also enhance trans-sonic lift to drag characteristics and improve super sonic lift to drag capabilities. Yet an increase in longitudinal instability will also increase the burden on high AOA pitch down controls which in pure tail configuration would be absolutely inadequate. The Russians have made excellent solution with a creation of LEVCON’s that can control pitch rate at post stall region without the help of the TVC, and can also provide directional controlability at extreme conditions.
In my opinion, the main reason why the Russian designers have managed to drastically decrease the size of the vertical tails, lies in the fact that LEVCON’s can increase the stall limit, and can restore laminar airflow over the airframe at high AoA, thus negating the need for the huge vertical tails that need to be very high in order for the upper part to be positioned above the turbulent airflow that is usually associated with classical fixed LERX.
As you stated, LEVCON’s can shift the aerodynamic center, or the center of lift, but that is not only useful because of the weapons storage, but also for the supersonic flight regime, where shock wave causes the center of lift to shift aft, causing the nose to pitch down, and at the same time disturbing stability/instability of the plane. This considerably reduces maneuverability of the plane and increases the drag because the plane needs to use aerodynamic surfaces to counter the pitch down motion and to trim the plane in level flight. For example, the F-35 needs to use the horizontal tails (negative deflection) to pitch the nose up. By doing so the plane is losing lift and at the same time increasing the drag. The plane such as J-20 has significant advantage compared to the F-35 because it can use positive canard deflection to pitch up. Since the canard is placed in front of center of gravity, it can use positive deflection, thus not reducing the overall lift, but at some point (depending on speed and height) induced drag/downwash from the canard will have negative impact on the main wing, so positive canard deflection is reduced to certain level and the plane needs to use other control surface for trimming, such as flaperons that reduce the lift and increase the drag. Su-57 on the other hand can use positive deflection of the LEVCON’s which provides superior lift to drag ratio without negative effects of the canards (induced drag/downwash).
Positive deflection here doesn’t necessarily mean that the LEVCON is deflected above the center line, but positive in relation to the incoming air flow.
That means that the plane can fly supersonic with LEVCON’s in the fixed position relative to the center line, which is enough to restore the center of the lift to the wanted position that is the most beneficial for the lift to drag ratio.

yesterday su-57 was doing aerobatics above my home. It was very powerfull and loud, i heard how it turned its engines on and off mid flight. I will remember this for my whole life. When it started roaring above my house and i went outside i just couldnt move my eyes from it, it felt surreal how it was doing cobras above me. From what i heard it was also THE FIRST flying su-57 model, and it was doing all this fancy things to boost qualification of the pilot. also it didn't sound like a kettle lol

With all the differences in frame, it'd be so much harder to build a Su-57 out of the Su-27/35 than just going for a clean sheet. Not to mention the fact that in aerospace changing the airframe usually needs rethinking the whole math. A lot of "updates" to modern aircraft which feature different aerofoil are in fact only the same for PR purposes and in reality they barely share any parts with the predecessor.

There appears to be an argument that aerodynamics no longer matter, at least for our adversaries. They are saying the SU57 is antique because it’s not as LO as the F22 and they don’t consider its range, speed or super maneuverability.
The aargument says that only LO matters because you cannot outrun a missile and this is false. Even playing DCS showed me that this is false missiles can be outrun! Maneuverability also allows for you to take a shot first!
There was a record of conversation between Su-34 pilots and air traffic control (or A-50 AWACS crew) where the air traffic control helped them avoid Patriot missiles.
The fact that a completely non-stealth Su-34 evaded 3 patriot missiles by maneuvering and running away is proof enough stealth is not be-all and end-all.
LO value is relative. Paint a cargo plane black and it's invisible in the 1920's. American aircraft's primary detectors are surface based, meaning that they have to be LO enough to mitigate powerful surface based radars. Russian aircraft's primary detectors are western aircraft which have exponentially less powerful radars than surface based air defense systems. They don't need to be as LO because their primary threat has less capable radars.

Boeing engineers (Everett plant) often spoke highly of Russian airplane designs. Many americans admire and have respect for russians, particularly, their creative people (engineers, scientists, philosophers, writers, athletes and artists). The sentiment caught me by surprise. The rejection is to their politicians, who also screw the russian people. Russia should, by all accounts, be a prosperous country, but corruption and bad administration has left it an impoverish wasteland. The ultimate example of how little the Kremlin cares for it's citizens, is that now they are throwing "meatwaves", generations of russians against generations of ukranians, eliminating them both from existence to apease the imperialistic aspirations of the big little tyrant. Disclaimer: I am neither from Russian nor the Anfglosphere, but have lived on both places. I honestly believe that the rest of the world wants Russia to come back to the table and see its economy succeed. And for its people to do better and achieve full potential.
I would have thought the strongest argument against the re-skinning theory is that if the SU-57 were a reskinned SU-35 then they would have been able to make more SU-57s so far than they actually have because they could re-use the SU-35 production lines. I know this channel is a fan of the SU-57, but really it would struggle to be on a par with the F-22 that is now at the end of it's career in the US, and is being built in such small numbers that no matter how good it is it won't make a difference - just look at it's (lack of) impact in the Ukraine war.

One very important detail that respected M7 forgot to mention as he noticed details about wings as most important aerodynamic surfaces. Su-57's wings have 30% more area then wings of Su-35S ,82sqm vs 62sqm ! More wing area means more lift. Also as he mentioned the centroplane of the Su-57 is much bigger .
Thanks to much better aerodynamic layout,much better aerodynamic technical solutions,Su-57 has much lower aerodynamic drag,much bigger aerodynamic lift. So the coefficients of these two aerodynamic parameters are on the Su-57's side.That's not all, Su-57 can whitstand much bigger aerodynamic pressure ( as the relation of the G-force and the given in-flight weight ) in comparison with Su-35S. In fact, Su-57 is 10G-fighter, Su-35S is 9G-fighter.
If we question ourself why all of those aerodynamic control surfaces ( LEVCONs, wings and vert./hor. stabilisers) are positioned as they are ,answer will be simple. To reduce aerodynamic drag and to reduce frontal and lateral RCS. Su-57 has much bigger vertical speed ( especially initial rate of climb), much better thrust to weight ratio in any given flight regime and of course that SEP. E.g. all-movable vert stabilisers of Su-57 are much smaller but the effective area of that aerodynamic control surface is much bigger in comparison with rudders on vert stabilisers of Su-35S.
Pls take a look on the air intake ramps. Su-57 has horizontally positioned air intake ramps and in the same time they are more integrated besides central fuselage section. Su-35S has classic vertically positioned air intakes ramps like all other FFF ( Flanker Family Fighters).
Su-57 has nothing to do with Su-35S if we speak about aerodynamics.

Su-57 has nothing to do with Su-35.In fact ,frontal RCS in centimetric X band in angle aspect +/-15 degrees for all 5th gen stealth fighters is in level 0.1-0.5 sqm. In fact ,Su-57 is from the start of the project PAK-FA designed as a stealth fighter with characteristical aerodynamics technical solutions .About engines,yes ,they are widely spaced but new so called second stage engines AL-51F ( Product 30) has new composite IGV besides radar blockers inside air intakes ,has serrated petals on their nozzles ,all of that for reducing RCS from the front and rear hemisphere. Also has third only cold stream for cooling engines and nozzles in all working modes thus reducing IR signature from both hemispheres.

Secondly ,if we talk about export ,first customer of Su-57E wiil be soon IAF ,then Algeria and Vietnam ( there will be no CAATSA) . The price for one export Su-57E as clean will be about 120 mil$ ,F-35 has export price as min as 300 mil $.
Thirdly, Su-57 is stealth fighter in the same class as US fighers F-22A and F-35 . All three of them are LO ( Low Observable) aircraft not VLO ,so they have frontal RCS in centimetric bands about 0.3 sqm. With all composite skin,radar-blockers inside air intakes,ITO made canopy etc ,Su-57 is really stealth as other fighters( US and Chinese) . There will always be people who are biased towards western technology (as of beeing superior). But underestimating your opponent and his technology is fatal in modern war. The Ukrainian war shows how overrated western technology is. Beeing on the other hand to at least more than 2-3 times more expensive that the eastern ones (Russian, Chinese, Iranian,...), it clearly show that most underrated feature in weapons is ratio: cost efficiency. Su57 is as good as it need to be to be produced in greater numbers if needed and for what the Russians need them according to their doctrine and economic justification. P.S:: very good video, showing that you can fight against biased people only with facts !

I see the differences, but I also see the similarities. Ever since it was first revealed as the Pak-50, I thought the Su-57 looked like a stealthified Su-35 with some upgraded systems. I've watched, listened to, and read content for more than a decade now, and none of it has provided compelling evidence that the Su-57 is anything else. That doesn't mean that it isn't a so-called 5th generation aircraft or at least closely approaching such a designation. It also doesn't mean that there hasn't been innovation associated with its stealthified design or the various requisite systems that we might expect to see on that type of aircraft. Indeed, they are not the same aircraft, but they are also not entirely unique aircraft designed separately from the ground up. The Su-57 has always appeared to be a Su-35 with a stealth body plan overlayed on top of it. Pointing out the specific differences involved in such an overlay that make it different from the shape of the non-stealth Su-35 doesn't do anything to demonstrate that it is an entirely different aircraft. All it means is that stealth necessitates differences between a traditionally layed out 4th generation aircraft. When you look at an F-22, it doesn't look like a stealthified F-15, but the Su-57 does look like a stealthified Su-35. The question for me is, why would this kind of observation upset anyone? It doesn't take anything away from the aircraft. It may say something about the designers or the amount of money available to Russian aircraft companies, but it really shouldn't be seen as detracting much from the aircraft itself. So this particular video leaves me mystified, and I doubt its going to change too many minds. Most of this is just based upon the appearance, and that's not going to change.
