The password is stored on the hard drive. Removing the battery that maintains the clock, when the machine is unplugged, does absolutely nothing but default the clock.
On older models like his and mines, the password is stored on the motherboard. I switched the hardrives 3 times and it still told me to put a password.
this trick may work for a zosi made in 2016 but it doesn't work on the 2019 model i tried it on, restarting it after pulling the battery does reset the date and time but the wizard doesn't show a next t link to click on, just a finish link then when you try and enter main menu with admin and admin or admin and blank you just get an invalid user and p/w message. there's no button or cmos jumper on the board, it seems to be storing the user and p/w and camera setup in a part of the bios that can't be reset by pulling the battery like a lot of laptops do. it doesn't seem logical that they would allow that kind of access through the network with the spd app but i guess i try that next and see......

I'm trying to get a QSEE reset as well. I've heard that possibly the newer QSEE DVR systems (and maybe others) store the user info to the hard drive. I think I might pull the drive and load it to an old desktop or mount the drive with a USB adapter as if it's an external HDD. Then look for files that seem out of place. Newer creation date. I bet you can delete the password "store" and reload the drive into the DVR. Restart and it will be factory reset. But dang. I can get a cheap one on Alibaba for a couple hundred bucks. And I don't have to be extorted by the technician who has an admin account in his name and could just remote in and reset my password to 123456 and I'd send him 50 bucks. But he said he thinks everybody wants him to work for free so he's gonna tell me he doesn't remember the password and charge me $150 to come out and magically be able to reset it. Lol

My security camera box has got a password I need to add into it but I cannot create my own email or password I cannot get into it I can't do nothing the alarm goes off there is a barcode comes onto the screen if you scan hit with any barcode reader it gives you where it's from and how much is it is I think the person on the video that have watched said take the battery out I think it is a load of rubbish that what he has said you take a battery out of the box it will reset the password it does not reset nothing because I think the battery is for something else I think if your password is locked onto it you may need a new box or contact the place that it's from the person who's made that video about taking the battery out and reset your password and it is a d m i n that is on the box when I got it surprise surprise is on the password on the equipment I have already got in my property don't believe what people say about password it's bulshit
