  • Jenessa Qua and her bandmates delivered a stunning tribute to the Queen of Funk on her 70th birthday last night. The audience was left spellbound by the soulful performance, begging for an encore even after the set had ended. The band paid tribute to Chaka Khan with a captivating rendition of her iconic song, “Ain’t Nobody.”
Originally released by Rufus featuring Chaka Khan in 1983, “Ain’t Nobody” quickly became a fan favorite, reaching the top spot on the US Billboard R&B chart and number 22 on the US Billboard Hot 100. Jenessa Qua and friends did justice to this classic tune with a heartfelt performance that left the audience wanting more.
It’s worth noting that Jenessa Qua and her bandmates paid homage to Chaka Khan with a performance of “Ain’t Nobody” from Rufus and Chaka Khan’s live album, Stompin’ at the Savoy. This double-record set features three sides of live material recorded at The Savoy in New York, showcasing the band at the pinnacle of their career and reunited with Khan for an unforgettable night of music.
Stompin’ at the Savoy includes all of Rufus and Khan’s biggest hits, including “Tell Me Something Good,” “You Got the Love,” “Sweet Thing,” “At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up),” and “Do You Love What You Feel,” as well as “What Cha’ Gonna Do for Me” from Khan’s 1981 solo album of the same name.
The album’s fourth side includes four new studio recordings, two of which were released as singles. “Ain’t Nobody,” written by Rufus’ keyboardist David “Hawk” Wolinski, became the band’s final #1 R&B hit and reached #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. The track also won them a Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal in 1984 and has since become one of Khan’s signature tunes, despite being recorded with Rufus. Overall, Jenessa Qua and friends delivered a tribute worthy of the Queen of Funk, paying homage to one of the most beloved and influential voices in music history. #livemusic #tam #chakakhan #mercatometropolitano #elephantandcastle #londonbridge #livemusiclondon #elephantpark #southbank #templeofartandmusic #singers #funk #randb #soul thank you @jenessa_qua @keys.asha @stevewalters664
