I have to say, I'm glad prices are finally coming down but I think a lot of us have moved on. Personally, I was into the Oyster Perpetual 39 and the Explorer II 16570 before the price hike and just plain gave up once the price went up into the stratosphere. It may come back down to something more reasonable now but even that has a bitter taste to me.

I agree wholeheartedly. I'm a 62 y.o. guy that had been a Rolex lover for 30 years. Three years ago I sold my last sub and moved on. As a small business owner I am comfortable, but not good enough for the AD in my hometown of Naples, Fl. Then the secondary market became a disgusting display of greed and favoritism that rivals a drug cartel network with prices that are obscene. I'm done with Rolex, forever, and moved on. Rolex purposefully made themselves so falsely scarce that they have truly turned a lot of collectors away.

Rolex watches are great. I love Rolex.
I’ve never considered buying a brand new 2nd hand Rolex, unless it’s an old model.
I went to an AD to check if I can get an explorer I 36mm. That salesperson was so proud of himself, like he made or invented Rolex. He also implied that buying a Tudor watch could help me to get a Rolex, tried to convince me that a new customer needs to follow their rules. (Tudor BB watches are nice. Don't you think doing so will upset Tudor lovers? ) Come on man, a watch isn’t something I can’t live without. It’s something that makes me happy.
Then I went to another AD with less customers. I did not wait to long. The 2nd AD received the shipment and gave me a call. The purchase was done happily. Those popular sports models are hard to get. It will be nice to see the watch market go back to normal.

Chrono 24 prices are often a bit ambitious too. The trajectory of luxury retail prices is so sharp that the bubble was always going burst. They are simply pricing themselves out of people’s price range and Rolex has played a game with customers and people don’t like it. The customer experience suffers in the hands of bad ADs. I have 2, a great one and a horrible one that I never go anymore, because he caters solely to flippers. yes retail means new from a store. and youd think used things should cost less but with rolex & some other brands you quite often cannot just walk into a store & purchase one on the spot, walking out with it. there isnt an unlimited supply so people are able to sell used for over retail because many people would rather have an over retail priced rolex than no rolex at all. its a very silly market overall. some retailers will also require you to buy a whole bunch of other things from them before they will even consider selling you a new rolex because they have so many others waiting to buy any stock they may get. again, its a very, very silly market in many ways but mostly just the effects of low supply & high demand.

Also mortgage interest rate are rising and whoever needs to further finance his real estate will be in need of maybe more capital than planned. This capital has to come from somewhere. So why not from selling one or two luxury watches....on top of all this, Rolex is told to have increased production. And finally, some flippers have already burned their greedy hands and some are starting to get in panic I guess....

I have to agree with your discovery that often times a watch appears way better in person than it does in photographs. That's the case with my yellow-gold Day-Date, ref 18078, with a silver dial. It has the machined bezel and bark-finished center links on the bracelet. I have yet to see a picture of it that's as pretty as the watch is in person. When the barked center links catch the light just right, they appear to light up like sparklers. As to pricing, I have my grail watch and don't ever plan on selling it or buying another, so pricing is moot for me. My suggestion is to buy what you love and can afford. You'll smile every time you check your watch.

Hi Brittney, I was at my AD (Bucherer, who has the largest delivery & turnover of Rolex watches in CH) two days ago in Switzerland and I can confirm to you the following: Rolex is having massive problems with the Pepsi bezel, so much so that they are not delivering anymore. Did you know the colour of the green bezel on the Sub has been changed ever so slightly (from a poison green to a darker green) without any public announcement by Rolex? What I cannot confirm is the discontinuation of the Pepsi due to production problems… however that may be the case…
Cheers from little Switzerland, the home of Rolex. PS the new factory claiming to open in 2024 - well they have just bought the land on which it will be built, so 2024 is an illusion for being up and running!

At this point, paying $2-4k+ over retail for someone else’s used piece (unless vintage or limited numbers) is just throwing your money away..in fact you would probably get more entertainment and even see of satisfaction to go into a homeless camp and just throw $4k up in the air and see what happens.
I can go into my local AD, no deposit (I offered) and pick up, with maybe a wait up to a 30 day wait and pickup up Explorer II (black/white dial) 41 OP’s (black, green, blue dial), Daye Just 41mm fluted WG Blue/Slate dials.
I would have to be absolutely insane to buy 2021, 2022 and even 2023’s something that someone else has already enjoyed. Now, if they were $2-$4k under retail, then maybe…but for me…I can wait the 30 days..or less.
I have a sneaky feeling these flippers (aka scalpers) are now caught with a shitload of various pieces, that they in their moment of seeing green, with visions of making thousands of dollars buying up used pieces…are now panicking as they will end up taking a dump on pieces that are essentially readily and reasonably available 🤔

Interesting video. If you think that watches are in investment, you are probably wrong. There are a few exceptions, but the general rule is: buy a watch if you like it, but don't think you will earn some money. Furthermore there are trends: the value of a watch is changing with time. As a result some watches will not keep their value on the secondary market, as the ones mentioned in this video.
