Yea I had to replay a few times to really listen to what he's saying, but his instructions are so direct and to the point. Best helpful video on RUclips.
Peter I don't always understand what you say, but I LOVE your accent! LOL it is funny when you say shocked or toyota corolla lol. I noticed in this video you are very thorough with showing us what is going on. Only the english needs some work but it is GREAT to hear you try. God bless you brother, thank you for helping me fix my toyota CELICA. If you ever have time, PLEASE ID be honored if you checked out my toyota celica. It is a 7afe and I ALWAYS go to your videos for 7afe info. One thing I need to fix is the AC. The ac was blowing cold with the system overcharged but only when it was driving. It would blow warm when at a stop. When I released some pressure it was in the green, but the ac no longer blows cold at all even when moving forward. I tried to change the AC fan but it didn't do anything. I'm thinking I might have to get a new compressor. But any info would be appreciated Peter. I am so glad I saw your videos. Thank you so much for making all of them. I saw you first when you were working outside in the dirt and would use a tire for your jack stand. You are VERY LEGIT. Mr toyota man!
What happens if you install the distributor angled too much off? I mean where there's a curved opening rather than a bolt hole for the mounting bolt(s) so you can rotate it what appears to be 5-10 degrees? Past a certain point does the engine run really rough and die?
Great video and very informative, I’ve just done this repair but I was wondering if it’s possible that I’ve installed the distributor with the timing 180 degrees out of time, would it still start. Or will it not start and I just uninstall and rotate it around ? Thanks heaps from NZ
I just removed the distributor from a '92 Camry with a 5S-FE to see if oil is leaking from it (it appears to be so I'm putting in a new o-ring). When I put it back, reconnected everything and turned on the engine, it ran extremely rough, like the timing was way off or firing in the wrong sequence, so I shut it off to see if the rotor was 180 off. But as hard as I tried I just couldn't get it to insert into the camshaft slot. I took a look and it appeared to be designed to only go in one way (perhaps not all distributors have this feature), so I installed it the way it was before and reconnected everything. But this time the car ran just fine. Perhaps something was loose the first time. I'll also add that coolant temp sensor connector was disconnected due to one of the wires breaking. Perhaps that was it. Not sure. Btw the way to verify that the distributor is oriented correctly is to turn the crankshaft by the harmonic balancer/pulley so that the marking is at TDC, and the rotor should be pointing a certain direction. You have to check the FSM to find out which way it should be pointing. Seems so primitive now, mechanical spark timing when it can and usually is all done electronically these days.

Whats the other possible issue if the oil in distributor keep leaking like every 2 months after replacement, is it due to engine oil? 10w40 should I change to 20w50?
I'm having a really hard time finding where to buy a new distributor. Oil is leaking from it. Do I only need to change the gasket? Do you know where to buy for a 2000 Camry?
If it leaks when the engine is cold and off, where could it be leaking? It leaked 2 quarts I added in the morning when the engine was off and not running. It leaks onto the flex pipe. 94 camry 4 cylinder.
Not servicing seals within the distributor? Those are the main source of oil leaks At the distributor. Oil leaking from inside the cap all over the thermostat housing, the coolant sensors, and all over the transmission.. my 91 Corolla 4afe has this issue, im going to order the seal kit, much cheaper than a new distributor..most people just get a new distributor. Other than the leak there is nothing wrong with it.. I rather pay the 13.99 for the oil seal kit.

Hi and many Thanks for comment. :-)
Peter, Once I mark the engine cover and the distributor rotor position correctly there isn't a need to redo ignition timing?
Thank you so much. This is exactly what I was looking for.

hi Peter I have got question I have plan to buy burnt N o-ring kit do you reckon is that suitable for Toyota distebuiter o ring ??
Hi, use only original parts. Visit the Dealer center.
So I changed that seal torqued everything back down and a week later I checked and still leaking. Does the distributor itself leak?
Yes, oil leaks past the seal on the rotating shaft
Thanks 😀👍
Whats the other possible issue if the oil in distributor keep leaking like every 2 months after replacement, is it due to engine oil? 10w40 should I change to 20w50?
Thanks for comment my Friend. 👍😀
Hi Peter, is the same procedure with 1.8L (7AFE)?
Yes
I'm having a really hard time finding where to buy a new distributor. Oil is leaking from it. Do I only need to change the gasket? Do you know where to buy for a 2000 Camry?
Hi. Here is place, where You can get the gasket: ruclips.net/video/P0Jn9Qw17HM/видео.html
is it important to have the engine TDC 1 before releasing the distributor??
No
Do you remember dimensions of distributor o ring or place where to buy in finland? Car is corolla 98 E110 1.6 l.
Visit the toyota dealer service desk. They have almost ALL parts. And prices are OK
Easy remedy take a roll of PVC tape and wrap about five turns around the base of the distrbuter where it faces the hole in block.
Good
maybe it can be done easier when you change the valve cover gasket too. so you will be able to see the slot for the pisitioning of the distributor.
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it. 😀👍
Would this cause a big oil leak?
Hi, loosen spark plug hole bolts
I have a problem inside the distributor, i need to replace the oil seal inside it
Do you have any idea where to buy that seal???
