    The clutch would usually slip if it was going bad but it should still engage somewhat... have you looked at the break arm? it should catch on the inner band of the clutch pad, next to the tension spring to release for spinning. The outer bell of the clutch drives directly off the transmission, so you may have a transmission problem : (

  • @SUNFUNSEEKER1
    @SUNFUNSEEKER1 11 лет назад

    this is the most detailed video ive seen on this popular machine,many people have no spin and are changing the clutch but that doesnt always solve the problem,,many times the drive block or tub hub go bad,or tranny.

    Hard to say for sure with kenmore... What is your washer's model number? If the washer is this whirlpool type then you may also want to look at the tub hub... It definitely could be the transmission. If the clutch bell is spinning under the washer when it should be spinning then your transmission is okay. It would be a problem between the clutch and the break/ drive tube or the tub's connection to the upper dive tube with the drive hub. Hope that helps some! Good luck!

    Sorry for the delay, I hope you where able to figure it out and get things going...Heres a few things to check... Is the clutch plate all the way down and locked onto the transmission? Could the clutch spring be hitting the brake arm? I usually install the inner tub onto the hub after the transmission is in place. Is the inner tub out? That may be making things difficult. Hope that helps some! Good luck! Thanks for the question!

    Thanks for this very instructive video! Have a Kenmore 80 washer that clicked loudly during the spin cycle. Pulled out the transmission unit and found the brake cam tab on drive tube broke off and there was oil on the clutch and its housing. I plan to replace the clutch and the brake cam. How do I fix the oil leak?

    • @applianceassistant
      @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

      Unfortunately the oil must be coming from the transmission… Not good. There is no good way to stop it apart from replacing the transmission. If you clean it up real well and it's a slow leak it may work for a year or two but eventually the oil will cause the new clutch to slip again or the transmission will lock up. Sorry for the bad news.

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

    Check out the lid switch... That would be my first thought. is the motor running when it should be spinning or is it just dead?

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  12 лет назад

    It could be the clutch.. but usually that will start with clothes that are just more wet than normal, and get progressively worse. If it sounds normal but is not spinning at all the motor coupling is the more likely cause. There may also be a fast clicking sound when it is trying to spin. Sometimes the agitation will work because it puts less strain on the coupling than the spin function does. Take a look at the motor/ coupling video and see if that gives you any ideas. Good luck!

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

    One side thought... the timer will still make a noise even when nothing else is being energized. you may also have a bad lid switch. If the buzzing/ humming noise is coming from down inside the washer it would probably be the motor or something in the pump, but if the buzzing is coming from the timer, check the lid switch.. Hope that helps!

  • @felplayvina
    @felplayvina 12 лет назад

    I did take it apart and turning by hand from the motor coupling, if I turn it to the left the agitator cycle work okay if I turn to the right it does spin, I put the drive tube in the transmission and the clutch not engage, I just did what you did at 5:10.... I just want to make sure it is the clutch bad?

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

    Is the motor functioning and your not getting any agitation movement? or is it filling and then just sitting there doing nothing?

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

    It does sound like the transmission... you may also want to change out the clutch while you have it apart... Its not a very expensive part just hard to get access to, but if you are changing out the tranny... Good luck! Thanks for the comment!

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

    That is a tough one...you may need to pull out the inner tub and see if there is something stuck between the tubs. With the tub out try to spin it again and see if the drive shaft is moving. Hopefully that will give some clues. Good luck!

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

    If you run it with the agitator out, do you see the center post of the drive shaft moving? it may be the transmission... what is your washer's model number?

    I have a like new Kenmore Elite washer that is not spining or draining the waterm out. I replaced the lid switch, checked out the clutch, the coupler and everything around the transmission and motor. All looks like brand new and in excellent condition. What do you think the problem may be? Ah, yes, how do I put the transmission back? I try back will not go all the way in. Thank you.

    Appliance , The drum of washer is filling ,and the motor is running ,but no agitation from the top agitator .The belts are moving ,but the pulley is not turning that goes to transmission. I turned the pully counterclockwise ,but all the agitator did was spin. When you turn pully clockwise it spins also. Could it be the trans is stuck in spin, and not going to agitate, or am I missing voltages that would put agitation cycle on. The motor is definitely running ,no doubt.

  • @schafergroup2006

    one thing I have learned is that the brake drum has to be pushed all the way up and also have the brake couple all the way to the left so that the clutch spring does not interefere. most important to get the clutch and transmission all the way in, you have to have the brake drum assembly pushed all the way up. hope that helps

    I must admit that I have learned something here today. I do, however, got a question for you. I, while opening the transmission boy, leaked oil ( i think most of it). Now, I don't know how to add more to it. Is there any way to do that without opening the transmission boy again. If not, how do I do it by opening the transmission box. Where exactly the oil goes to?
    Thank you

    Great video. I hope that I can do this! Before I order the expensive part (tranny), I just want to clarify that it is the part required.
    Washer agitates on low speed, but "slips" under load (a towel or 2 prs jeans is too much) and will only agitate clockwise, resulting in clothes wrapped around the agitator. Low load is ok. Regular agitate speed always grinds & won't catch on the CCW motion. On spin, it will sometimes suddenly "grab" and agitator will stop free spinning before releasing again.

    I have a Maytag a105 washer that spins but will not agitate .The belt was replaced a little while ago ,and I replaced the lid switch. The belt is not broken . The belt made a noise when I tried to wash ,and it stopped agitating .The moor seems to be ok .This has happened before ,and it sometimes fixes itself. I wonder if I am getting the voltage to agitate it ,as their are different wires going in before you get to motor

    I have a Kenmore washer model 110 92588410 similar to the one shown.. My problem is that I cannot remove the inner tub as easily as shown. It seems like the hub is frozen to the tub. I removed the transmission assembly for ease. Can I remove the drive tube and tab on the hub to loosen it and get the inner tub out this way? Any suggestions? Thanks for your reply.

    • @applianceassistant
      @applianceassistant  11 лет назад

      Removing the drive tube is usually more difficult because it has such heavy contact with the corroded hub. Try working some rust buster or WD-40 between the outer part of the hub and the inner tub contact and let it soak in. Then press down toward the floor hard and fast at a few opposing points on the outer edge of the inner tub... Hopefully it will break loose with some effort. If not keep trying and you should get it. Good luck! Thanks for the comment!

    Hi I have a Maytag Washer MAV2757AWW I am having problems with it not spinning out the water. It spins some but not really fast to get out all of the water. I kept the lid open and it seems to be like it is agitating and spinning at the same time but slowly. It also sometimes makes a very loud noise something like a jet plane taking off when it is washing. I just can not afford a new washer right now but don't want to put a lot of money in this one it has not worked right since I purchased it.

    My washer runs through all the cycles fine, but makes a very loud banging/clunking noise only during the spin cycle. It makes the bang/clunk noise at least once a second during the spin. Is this the transmission? What do you think?

    • @applianceassistant
      @applianceassistant  10 лет назад

      I have had motors make a noise like that when they can't shift from the start winding to the run winding within the motor... There is a centrifugal switch that makes the change moments after it starts spinning and makes contact with the motor's run winding. Can you upload a video of it? Then I can listen and maybe give a better idea of the cause...

    • @rayleclair0
      @rayleclair0 6 лет назад

      Just in case you have the washer after 3 years (or for the benefit of anyone reading this) the tub is probably locked just because of the brake that is engaged. For the humming part, it can be because of a bad connection to the motor (red wire near the bottom would prevent the motor from starting) or something stuck in the pump. I would first remove the pump from the motor and see if the pump turns freely. Then try to run only the motor, without even the gearcase attached. A bad capacitor would also cause humming noise.

  • @applianceassistant
    @applianceassistant  12 лет назад

    That's a little strange for a transmission... could be. I would be inclined to pull the agitator and check for shaft movement during agitation. You may just need a new set of agitator cams "agitator dogs" I have an agitator video posted that will walk you through it. If its just that and a pump it would be worth fixing. If it is in fact the transmission it's hard to say if that would be a wise repair... If you do the repair and avoid the labor charge maybe... Good luck!

      Sometimes the brake arm will hit the clutch spring and keep it from going up all the way. Pull it back out and make sure the clutch that is on the transmission is not going to hit the brake arm that is a part of the drive tube that it is going into. Hope that helps!

    • @rayleclair0
      @rayleclair0 6 лет назад

      Usually I align both brake spring and clutch spring towards the front of the unit, by getting used to always place them the same way, the transmission always goes up to it's right position without looking.

    Opening the transmission is not recommended... as you now know : ( There is no good way to get the oil back into the gear case and get it sealed up again. You may be able to find a new gasket and oil online but it is fairly rare that the gear case is repaired, it's usually replacement only. Knowledge is expensive sometimes, but hard lessons usually stick with you for life. However, I have no doubt you can figure something out. Good luck!

      on that style of washer I would guess the clutch mounted to the motor may be the cause. You can pull the front of the washer off by depressing 2 tabs with a putty knife. They are located a few inches in on the right and left of the seam where the front meets the top of the washer. after you press them down the front will pull forward and lift off 2 bottom tabs. Then you can run it and hopefully isolate the source of the noise. Hope that helps! Good luck!
