HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 авг 2024
- New Ukulele Tutorials every Wednesday and Saturday, susbcribe and learn!
Today my friends we are starting our journey passed Ukulele players and moving towards becoming more complete musicians. We are going to examine how to read sheet music and convert them into Ukulele tabs. This series will be a four part series that will cover the entire month of March.
In this first lesson we will learn what the notes on the staff are, the time divisions, whole, half, quarter and eighth, for both our notes and our rests, what 4/4 time signature is and at the end we will play a little melody together in the key of C to see if we learned how to read sheet music. Learning and developing these skills will also help you in the area of music theory as well. So, it is a win win, learning sheet music for the Ukulele is also a study in music theory for the Ukulele!
Ever week we are going to add a skill so make sure to tune in every Wednesday for the month so we can build our musical skills together!

I really don’t know how to read sheet music this helped a lot
Sweet! That is great.
I was focussing so hard on deciphering the sheet music that I didn't put together the melody until you played it at the very end. My jaw dropped, I've never felt so happy about something so simple. Thank you so much !!
E : I
G : Really
B : Enjoy
D : Your
F : Content
Thank you very much, I was reading a book because I want to start playing but I couldn´t figure out how to play the notes and for how long because there was no audio, this is very helpful!
"You are my sunshine" So happy to have found your channel! I've had an uke for a long time, finally learning to play it! Love that you're starting with a little music theory. This is gonna be fun!
That is great to hear Rachel, so happy you dig it! Understanding why is a great place to learn how. Rock and roll friend!
This helped me a lot..cause it's been four years since I started learning the ukulele but I don't know how to read a music sheet....thank you very much...this helped me a lot
My whole life I used to read sheet music like do re mi fa sol. . .
and now this A B C D E thing is pretty confusing,
but I think I'm getting better:)
PotatoForTheWin You mean when your piano teacher told you to hit a note on the piano, they told you to hit the Mi note? Lol.
Nice new haircut. Now I want fudge. Thanks Tyler.

My only sunshine 🎶
Thank you ❤
It took me a second to understand where your acronym started tbh. Hell I’ll be honest I watched this is slow motion 😂 but this was very educational. All that’s left is to actually get a ukelele and tune it properly. Thanks!
Thank You Bro from India ! ✨☺️
You are my Sunshine : wow loved it

Cheers friend!
I know how to read sheet music but knowing which note each fret is was the confusing part.
Good afternoon boss let me hope all is well now how muscj your books for sheet music thnx alot
You are my sunshine -melody
thank u so muuuuch
So many questions lol like when reading sheet music how do you know if you play a note or a cord. The lesson is obviously note oriented but can you play those cord wise ?
Stephen Pagani yes, you’d see that as notes stacked on top of each other in the same place.
Great
I was wondering if 0 on A, 0 on G and 1 on E and then 0 on E would also work for the last practice sheet
Every good boy does fine
I like it and learned which string and fret . However fingers are haphazard. It’s not mentioned which fingers I need. Especially as the notes get tighter
so there's two different types of f and e notes? one played on the line and one played in between the lines?
Its you are my sunshine, right? I just ordered my shirt!! Thanks for all you do, you really help my learning!!
You got the melody and some new threads! What design did you get?
@@TenThumbsProductions i ordered the shirt with the ukulele image :) im gonna wear it out too!!
🎶You are my sunshine 🎶
I was looking for a video that is specific to ukelele. This is just showing how to read sheet music. I play flute, oboe, piccolo and piano. I’m learning ukelele. The difference is I want to learn when to strum, down strum or up strum etc
You're very talented! That's so badass.
Melody is "You Are My Sunshine".
Wait but how am I supposed to know that a “g” note is 3 fret e string?? Or any other notes like that
This is my question too. I know from watching my sons piano lessons how to read sheet music very basically but how do I know which is where? 🤪
Every Good Band Deserves Fans :D
Melody.. “you are my sunshine “…👍🏽
you are my sunshine⛅🎶
Very good!
What model kala is that? Is it a concert size?

Maybe I just need to watch more to find out, but are your finger placements for each note (eg. For C Scale) have to be like that? Like, let's say the chord D need your fingers to be placed on the 2nd fret of G, 2nd fret of C, and 2nd fret of E (in the strings).
If it is, does that mean I can just take note of the finger placements and then baam, I can read sheet music?
Can you tell me which video of the series tells me how to read sheet music for chords?
I see that there are four notes on one spot for a chord, but how do I know which note applies to which string? Or do I have to try and figure out that myself somehow? How would I translate those four notes to tabs?
You would start with the lowest note. So let's say the notes are C E G making a C chord and the C is the lowest frequency on the sheet music, that would be the lowest note in your chord and you would work your way up from there.
every good boy does fine
You are my sunshine!
What lines are you talking about? The lines going up and down on a note? Or the horizontal lines
colourful64able the horizontal lines
how is there multiple of the same note 😭 having so much trouble deciphering which C notes are which lol, but I'm sure ill get it.
Fucking yes finally
every good boy deserves fudge
Any one know how to tell the fret it is?
You Are My Sunshine!!! LOL
Liz Jewell yep! Good job!
Question: Why is G always played on the third fret of E string instead of plucking the individual first string (GCEA) as in the case of C?
because it's in the same octave. octaves are a set of eight notes occupying the interval between two of the same notes. So you know how you started and ended with a "C." Well, both of those are in the same octave. However, the "G" string would be in a separate octave written in sheet music than the G you play on third fret "E." You can also test this and see that both sound different, (i believe the G string is higher pitched than the third fret E). I hope this helped a bit. I know basic music theory, if you have more questions you can ask.
@@Cybrtronlazr thanks for taking the time to reply. It made sense till I played the instrument to realize that both Gs - third fret one and 4th string one - are the same pitch (hence octave). Your explanation could be true for a low g stringed ukulele maybe.
@@NeetoleMitra ah i see, i am kind of new too and didn't have my ukulele on me so i couldn't tell if they were the same octave. but i hope u understood.
@@Cybrtronlazr not anymore. Since now it turns out they are the same octave.
Wth i don't understand notes... What isthis g c d a b etc etc and where is it?
What about tie notes??
How to in F Clef?
Why does. My uke have a big C above the stave but still have notes underneath it
Yeah idk either but so does the music I'm trying to read 😂
Why in my Ukulele book I find some Bs but I can't play a low B because the lowest note is a C. Correct?
You would need a low g to get a low B. The 4th fret of the g string is a b note but the high g brings it up an octave to sound like the 2nd fret of the A string.
They might be B chords? To be honest I’m not sure
@@TenThumbsProductions Thank you for the response. Yeah I think I have to do that or transpose the song a little bit.
you are my sunshine
dont forget to be realistic - you'll have to put in some work whatever method you follow for becoming a pianist I have spent months researching into how to play uke and found a fantastic resource at Arthurs Uke Blog (google it if you are interested)
Such a dismal song! Shh 🤫, don’t tell my MIL; it’s one of her all-time favorites! Great lesson. I look forward to the series.
It is a happy melody... but not so happy lyrics! hahahah.
Help I can't understand it , I'm used to reading flute music
This is wonderful. Many thanks for you fine work. MikeinMinnesota
Michael St.James thank you so much Mike! Greeting to Minnesota!
Why do you play a C on the 3 fret of the A string and not the open C string?
Peter Morgan you can play both, one is a higher C and will create different emotions within the melody.
Cool, thanks. Great lesson 😎
At 3.20 playing e how does a beginner know to play the 7th fret rather than the e string.this needs explaining
The high e note on the 7th fret is the high E on the sheet and the open E string is the low E.
Why wouldn’t u just play the notes down the one sting for the c key?
La carita :D
It would be gunny if the melody was never gonna give you up tho
A massive missed opportunity 😂
Ook or yook I say yook when it comes to pronouncing Ukulele
Hey, thanks for making the music theory vids. I totally forgot everything I ever knew about music theory from decades ago. Recently I've decided to get a ukulele and just practice it every day before work and maybe also before I go to bed. I did not want to set a strict goal or stress myself out by being overly ambitious, so my only goal right now is to casually practice the uke whenever I have some spare time and upload a progress video every month for a year.
I have been studying a lot of your music theory vids as I have been waiting for my uke in the mail. I am pleased to say that I now have my very first ukulele and my very first ukulele video. At the following link is my ukulele starter kit unboxing vid:
ruclips.net/video/qQ3VK5hEB74/видео.html
i get the numbers and everything but what the hell are those letters for i-
Brain cell 1:This isn’t so hard ( because I got the scale right )
Brain cell 2: yea the video was way easier to follow the 14th time watching it.
Brain Cell 3: mmmmmm pizza......
f*ckin love u
Some sheets are really difficult like piano ones 💀💀 and I don't understand them pls help
With the ukulele you really just have to focus in the melody, so when you see big chords with the piano just play the highest note, and if you want you can add the second or 3rd highest
EGBDF every good boy deserves football
ASMR maybe 😂
If anyone is interested in playing the Ukelele the best results that I have ever had was by following the Arthurs Uke Blog (i found it on google) without a doubt the most incredible system that I have ever tried.
...the other night.......(bump, bump, buuuuuuummmm) .....as I lay sleepling....oooooooooh I dreamed I held you......held you in my arms......ohhhhhhh but when I woke up this mornin'......found out I was mistaken......don't you know that I hung my head......Hung my head and criiiiiiieeeeed.....OOOOOHHHHH...YOU ARE MY SUNSHIIIIIIINE....ohhhhhh my only sunshine....Ooooooh-ooo-ooooh you make me happy.....when the skies are gray.... (This is the Ray Charles version :)
well if you ever doing face and somehow cant remember it say Fat angry cats everywhere
1:11 I'm so confused. I thought it was G C E A for the ukulele? I thought the ukulele only had four strings? I'm so confused.
It is GCEA and the ukulele only has four strings. Those lines on the sheet music don’t represent the strings on the Ukulele the just represent notes. Each line gives a note a physical position and thus represent each note.
@TenThumbsProductions Ok, my bad. Man, learning the ukulele is extremely difficult.
@@1andonlytoonkid No apologies are necessary. I am here to help. You can do this, you just have to get over a couple jumps and it’ll be smooth sailing.

That’s not how to read in the key of C! Only the C scale is possibly the key of C. The last sunshine song is just plain old sight reading of the notes!
There seems to be a lot of confusion on your part as to how this works, hopefully this will help to clear up your doubts.
1. "That’s not how to read in the key of C!"
- Actually, that is exactly how you read music in the key of C
2. "Only the C scale is possibly the key of C"
- I am assuming you meant to say "Only the C scale is possible to use when the key signature is C" but I am not quite sure as your grammar is jumbled. I think you meant to write "possible" instead of the adverb "possibly", are referring to the key signature of C?
For argument sake we will say you were intending to say "You can only use the C scale when the key signature is C" and if that is what you were trying to say, that is also wrong.
After C major you can use the key signature for D Dorian, E Phrygian, F Lydian, G Mixolydian, A Aeolian (the relative minor and by far the most common after C Major a.k.a. C Ionian) and lastly, the super dissonant, B Locrian.
Still, let's say that isn't even what you were trying to say, let's assume you were literally saying that if the key signature is C then I am limited to C D E F G A and B notes, that is also incorrect. With accidentals I can use any of the 12 notes that exist in western music in all 12 major and minor key signatures as well as their respective modal harmony.
3. "The last sunshine song is just plain old sight reading of the notes!" Sight READING is simply reading music on the fly. So to say that isn't how you read music, then to say that is just site reading, contradicts your already vague idea..
I hope that helped any confusion that you had, have a nice day.

Your finger are difficult to see
No, they aren’t, but even if they were you can use the tabs.
Totally confused.
Not a clue what you are talking about
