I have a 1996 xjs convertible with 45,000 miles and just recently the idle stays up at around 15 in park and around 10 in drive. When it warms the engine starts to shake the the idle goes down below 4 the it shoots up to 10.
Hello, I just purchased a 1995 Jaguar XJS 4.0 6 cylinder coupe. My check engine light came on CODE P0420.Catalytic converter. Do you have any recommendations to clear this code? The car is registered with historic plates, so I'm not worried about passing inspection since I don't need one. I added Rislone to the gas tank.Havent had an opportunity to run the tank dry yet.
Hello. A basic OBDii scanner will let you clear the code. If it come right back you may want to read this thread. It may give you some tips on how to manage this reoccurring code. Hope this helps! www.jaguarforums.com/forum/xj-xj6-xjr6-x300-26/p0420-p0430-codes-20258/
I have a 1989 Jag XJS wondering if you could help me out my idol is just going insanely high. It was going revving up and coming down, revving up and coming down and all of a sudden just recently. She just starts revving and just keeps going higher and higher and higher and I can’t seem to get any help anywhere. I can’t find an engine that’s old enough to have a video to watch the one I’m watching that you guys are doing on is a different year different so the housing for the idle unit is on a different place on the motor so I am I need some help. I appreciate you guys God bless.
Hello. Ours uses a different engine management so it is quite different. I would suggest checking for a vacuum leak to start. Especially as this started all of a sudden. Good luck and let us know how it goes!
Crazy that the Jag mechanic did not suggest this. Thanks for the video.
Don’t get us started hahah!
Similar issue on my 89 Jaguar XJS V12 , interesting, thanks for posting.
2-25-24.4:40 pm. Thanks. Your video was a great help.
Glad it helped!
That's a great result after all the work you did previously for us who own a XJS this is good information to by us thank you. Andy Allen.
My pleasure!

You may have a bad idle air valve.
I was watching your videos, but did not see the outcome when you changed the Coolant Temp Sensor. Did this help bring the idle down.
Have you checked how much air the MAF sensor is measuring?
Can it be the - Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) ( 1996 Jaguar XJS)
It’s starting to look that way
This might as well resolve the same issues on a N/A X300 3.2 or 4.0
yes! the part is shared across a lor of jag engines
I was thinking the same thing as x300 has the same motor.

Hi, I have an '84 V12 and the AAV on these is totally different to the straight 6 from the 90's, can help if need be via email
My '96 idles pretty high while in park.
This is the same condition we had. The main culprit was a failed thermostat. Be sure to put an OEM temp one in as it controls the idle circuit.
