And there wasn't much I disliked about this show......except maybe the Ulysses and Xena storyline. That fool came out of nowhere to mess with Gabby's chick. I don't think so! 🤣😂
I just found this channel tonight on recommendations. I understand how much I really miss this show. Not only this show has aged well like fine wine, but it is one of the few shows that really told a story throughout each season, as well as the whole series. You rarely get shows like these anymore.
Xena was my childhood. I grew up through elementary school and high school with xena. I wish the series and Hercules too would be released on blu-ray or on digital. I love this channel and the clips bring back so many memories.
This episode is an example of seriously incredible writing, especially for 90s TV. Gabrielle's B-plot with the seemingly Christian cult creeps along in the background while the audience, just like Xena herself, are completely distracted by the proleptically meaningless drama in the A-story with Caesar. By the time we realise the stakes, the B-plot is revealed to the be the A-story, and we're left feeling shocked while Xena is left feeling guilty for having abandoned her best friend.
Xena needs ways more props from the modern generation for its excellence in so many areas. It always chafes with me when some people dismiss it as simply a "cheesy action series" and downgrade it. Often I feel those comments come from people who haven't properly watched it and experienced just how truly dramatic and well written it can be. It juggles so many styles from comedy to tragedy in such a unique way and deserves way more exposure online especially with reactors.
I remember watching this episode when it first aired. I was thinking: damn, this episode went in a completely different direction than I thought it was going. Good job, writers!
I remember when this was on TV for the first time in Los Angeles on Channel 5 then known as KTLA (also WB; Warner Bros). This was so frightening to me that I had to switch it over to another channel at random because the sight of the Messenger with the horns looked so demonic/Satanic and we were a Christian household. My brother was watching it and I told him to change the channel. The whole Dahok thing was so Satanic looking he is obviously inspired by the Devil - the fire, the impregnation of Gabrielle by the evil god (Anti Christ baby). I also recall that we never saw Dahok's appearance until some later episode of Hercules and he looked like a space alien. When the temple of Dahok collapses at the end of this episode, it turns out to be the ruins of Stonehenge. Xena was an amazing show. The special effects for this scene with the altar/fire were terrific and hold up well today doesn't even look like cheap CGI from the 90s at all. Wonderful show. I'm glad they never re-boot it or remade it because it's perfect as is.
Jesus!!! This scene is actually a lot darker than people realize!!! Gabrielle is actually getting “raped” by Dahak while Xena is fighting Krafstar. 😨😬😫💀
Yep. And even though Xena doesn't think she's being raped, she's worried he's doing something to Gabrielle. It's all in her expression. Little did, Xena know how evil Dahak actually was.
Which is why at the end of the episode Gabrielle told Xena that she hurts inside. It was both literal and metaphorical if you think about it. That's exactly what a rape victim would say after the rape.
Borias, I love how multiple people play multiple characters, not just Lucy playing meg and the princess and the priestess. Such a beautiful show, super empowering, and just the greatest show of all time.
Renee and Lucy really pulled off this on screen relationship like I give them a round of applause. their acting is marvelous. you can really see the love in this scene.😉😍🤗🙏
The beginning of the Dahak story arc which will end in Hercules' fifth season. I do believe however that Krafstar should have stayed in human form with some demonic characteristics (fangs, claws, demon eyes etc) just like Gilgamesh in the fifth season premiere of Hercules.
@Pro Token420 Yep, Gilgamesh did appear on Hercules but he was no hero. He sold his soul to Dahak and became a demon in order to avenge his family's death. Check out the fifth season of Hercules, it's really awesome, it gets into Sumerian, Celtic and Norse mythologies.

1:01 - 1:08 ..... the maddest I've ever seen Xena......the one time she wasn't their to protect Gabby. :-( And she feels the guilt too. As seen in other parts of this episode.
Well, Hercules was the stereotypical demigod hero. Seen it already 1000 times before. Xena and Gabrielle were flawed human characters, so there was a lot more complex and innovative stuff. Also the subtext. I don't think any producer or writer would have been brave enough to make even a subtext between two male heros.
Well that's true but personally I prefered Hercules over Xena. Unlike Xena Hercules has super powers therefore it makes sense for him to be a match for most gods and monsters. Xena was ok when she was up against mortals like Caesar or Calisto but it was bizzare to see a mortal woman like her be a match for Ares the god of war himself. Well there was the implication that Ares was Xena's father but it was never confirmed in-show.
@@heartbeat8706 Nope, not really. Dahak was more used in Hercules where he actually appeared in person, and the first half of Hercules' fifth season was an entire story arc dedicated to Dahak. Dahak didn't appear in Xena in person at all, only as a demonic fire.
This scene is powerful, especially the music and Lucy's performance in it. Still, with Dahak in mind, it's good that this scene wasn't as powerful as Hercules' fight against the possessed Gilgamesh, because he was controlled by Dahak himself rather than one of his henchmen. Xena and Gabrielle were originally supposed to return in "Let There Be Light" to help Hercules and Iolaus defeat Dahak but they were scrapped in favor of Morrigan and Nebula. Also I agree on how disapointed it was for Dahak's true form to be a Power Rangers monster of the week.

After some years the cruel undertone of the story is so clear and painful you can't wash it off your skin and spirit it out of your brain. Sick story from start to end, sick people craving power over bodies and souls. Such a trial, life with someone like Xena unavoidably had to get the girl to this point - biggest scare for warrior princess.

And the Dahak story arc, which will end in Hercules' fifth season though Hope did appear in Hercules' two-parter "Armageddon Now" where she sent Callisto back in time to kill Alcmene before Hercules is born thus changing history. At the end of this episode Hercules did say he wanted to deal with the evil that caused the situation (Dahak).
@@jameslyon2338 Yes you should, especially the fifth season which concludes the Dahak story arc. I'm not going to spoil it for you but let me tell you, it's far scarier and better than Xena's part of the story. If you want to see the full Dahak story then you should also watch the Hercules' season 4 two-parter "Armageddon Now" as I said above.
I enjoyed season 1-4 of this show, i found season 5 to be hit and miss and i really did not like the 25 year sleep. Season 6 was in my personal opinion awful. Overall i would say it was good not great.
Wishful thinking is one hell of a drug, one might be tempted to say. But then one realizes that "Dahak" actually won and IS the One True God. Or rather that an evil, depraved entity very much akin to him very much IS behind all of the abrahamic religions, manipulating their zombified followers into being the pox on humanity they are, into accepting horror as normality, sadistic cruelty and insanity as the epitome of love and justice.
1:43 how about “this isn’t the one god of the Israelites?” line?! Wow! Basically referencing the real true God, and the Trinity, far surpass all others! Chills!❤
True. Dahak was not nearly as powerful as the God of Light. Like Dahak was once defeated by the Titans, wich later got defeated by the Olympians. To put this in comparison, the God Of Light gave xena the ability to kill gods and she destroyed them. That's all he needed to do. He didn't even need to intervene.
That is owed Just to the fact that they had written themselves into a corner. Technically Dahak was every bit as powerful as the so called "God of Light" (who really turned out to be a hypocritical tyrant and hardly better than his opposite number anyway), but they had No Idea how they should ever actually defeat him, so they clumsily nerfed him to be able to contrive a ridiculous and unsatisfying way for herc to beat him after all. Just as they nerfed the Archangel Michael when he (and by extension his slimy, disgusting boss) revealed himself as a sneering, sadistic, maniacal villain who had only manipulated and used Xena and her daughter Eve in the final season. It's always the same story, writers introduce some unstoppable uber villain and then realize they haven't thought through how to get rid off him again, falling eventually back on forced plot contrivances that inevitably make the villain much less impressive and even despite that the victory of the heroes still feel unearned.
@@h5u7p5gt9No. Nothing to do with ",gnosticism". Dahak and the "God of Light" originally were Angra Mainyu/Ahriman (of whom the christian devil is but a watered down poor man's version) and Ahura Mazda from Zoroastrianism. Indeed the name Dahak comes from Azi Dahaka, one of Ahriman's demons, but for some reason, perhaps simple novelity, they used that name for an entity that clearly was supposed to be Ahriman himself. But the writers lacked the knowledge to do that setup justice and instead Fell Back in what they knew, writing the "God of Light" as the biblical "God" instead. Which ironically towards the end of the series increasingly lead to all the cruel, nasty and manipulative aspects that Ahura Mazda doesn't have but that Ole Jehova has in spades creeping right in so that the so called "God of Light" quickly started looking very shady indeed and not at all like that great a replacement for the old gods. At first it was more or less by accident that it came across that way with the nigh universally hated twilight of thr gods arc, that was so reviled by the fans that they ended up retconning the entire last two seasons of Xena away in the canonical comic book continuation, restoring the Olympians in all their glory. But in the last season they actually started to embrace it, with the Archangel Michael (and by extension his faceless Boss) being revealed AS a deceptive, manipulative, selfish user and abuser in no way better but possibly even worse than the old gods had been at THEIR wort, with Xena starting to realize that killing the gods was actually a horrific mistake, making the world worse Off. So she actually restores Ares and Aphrodite to godhood to mitigate at least partially the damage she did. All zombified christian fanatics should be glad that the show ended when it did, because of it Had gone on for another reason, it almost certainly would have gone a way similar to "Supernatural" and would have fully embraced what the last season only hinted at and played with, revealing the so called "God of Light" as the true, ultimate Big Bad.
I think Krafstar abused Gabrielle off-camera. I mean, look and listen to her reaction to him, then watch Xena's reaction to Gabrielle's reaction to him. Their conversation moments later and the way the cult menaced over Gabrielle as she screamed further suggests that Krafstar/they did something to her after she killed Meridian. But where did the rest of the cult go? Why? I even think that Hope might be Krafstar's child, that Gabrielle got dragged by and held in the fire just for effect (per morphed Krafstar's penchant for theatrics and/or to make Xena lose her cool and then lose the fight). Plus, Krafstar can obviously turn into a non-human, and I've not seen any other gods go totally weak like preteen Hope did after sending the sword into the centaur. I doubt she's the child of a so-called all-powerful god. ...Did Dahak want another kind of Gabrielle's innocence as well? Was it too taken from her on that altar? (She was not a virgin, but she was still pure because she had only been with her husband, once, as far as we know.) Hm... Perhaps I am wrong? I'm only halfway through the third season...
Does anyone know why only the first season of Hercules is available to buy a digital copy of via RUclips, Amazon & iTunes and not Seasons 2-6? I wanted to buy the good episodes (particularly the acclaimed Dahak arc from the first half of Season 5), but frustratingly can't.
first time I watched this episode I felt very scared :o because on all the episode I thought the members were from "the only god of the israelnists" and then appear that evil god :(
You mean the first episode of Hercules' season 5 right? The one where Hercules and Iolaus went to Sumeria to help Gilgamesh retrieve the nectar of the gods but then Hercules finds out that Gilgamesh was in Dahak's cult and wanted to sacrifice his sister Nebula, but Iolaus sacrificed himself to save her and then Hercules literaly beat Gilgamesh to death.
Same, but he technically is. Dahak is just an evil incarnate form part of the same Darkness Satan is. In Hercules, Dahak says he saw the world form out of nothing and brought the serpent of temptation into mans garden.
@_.El._ I thought that Dahak is actually the demon Ahriman from Zoroastrianism. This fits with Hercules meeting Dahak in Sumeria, which is near Persia since the Persians' religion was Zoroastrianism, and with the appearance of Zarathustra in Hercules. If I'm not mistaken, Zarathustra must be a central figure in Zoroastrianism. Also, another name Ahriman is known for is Dahaka. 😉 *EDIT:* I did some research and found out that in Zoroastrianism Dahaka is the son of Ahriman, not Ahriman himself. Also, Zarathustra is the founder of Zoroastrianism.
@@chris10180d But Satan didn't appear in this episode. He appeared in season 6 as the archangel Lucifer until Xena corrupted him into the Devil and tossed him in Hell.
I missed the ending of this episode so I didn't know Gabrielle really killed that girl, I thought she killed that high priest and that's how she lost her blood innocence.
Dahak is from Zoroastrianism and Persian mythology. He's the son of Ahriman, who's the Zoroastrian Devil which would make Dahak the Zoroastrian Antichrist pretty much.

3:37 YOU ARE SO INCORRECT, DELIVERER! HIS SACRIFICE WAS IOLAUS A YEAR LATER! DAHAK YOU HAVE A LOT OF NERVE TO DISTRESS THE HEROES AND THEIR SIDEKICKS! YOU MUST APOLOGIZE TO ALL FOUR OF THEM!
One of the best shows ever 24 years later it was crazy bonkers funny had heart tragedy everything rolled into one have started buying the dvds again definitely one of my favourite shows absolutely love xena
I am addicted to these clips!!
I love this channel…I can see all of my xena episodes without pulling out the C.D in my closet….that complete series box is heavy…😁😁😁😁😁😁😁 time Stood still for xena…. This show will always be my number 1…
Una delle più belle puntaste di Xena! Lucy 💕💕💕
This is where Gabrielle gets preggo by Dayhawk 🤰🏻
Yes
It's Dahak
@@Bardim18 He's making fun of the captions
Yep, she's being raped...😖😖😭😭
What Morpheus tried to take from Gabrielle on an earlier episode, Dahak took.
This makes me wonder whether Morpheus was working for Dahak back then...
@@Bardim18 no it's just his kink pretty much
Xena was so awesome
THANK YOU! I love this fight, especially how the deliverer catches xena off guard, but she laters outsmarts him! 🙌🏽
Could you imagine if Xena and Hercules teamed up against Dahak???
Xena would always be a badass
It almost happened. The Hercules s5 episode "Let There Be Light", where Hercules exorcises Dahak from Iolaus, Xena and Gabrielle were supposed to show up and help Hercules but they were scrapped in favor of Morrigan and Nebula.
Δημήτρης Μπάρδας oooooo I never knew this!
@@Bardim18 Makes me sad to this day.
@@ravensthatflywiththenightm7319 Me too. They could remove Jason from that episode since he did absolutely nothing in it and instead have Xena and Gabrielle show up along with Morrigan and Nebula.
@@Bardim18 True though ideally for me I wish they figured a way to keep all of them and give each something to do. Dunno how, I honestly need refreshing on the show - it's been years - but either way, what a missed opportunity because the two shows were not synchronized.
Little does anyone realize that Krafstar's actor also portrayed Borias
I was reading the comments tl see if anyone else caught that, too!!!
Noooooooooo waaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! And here's me thinking I was a huge fan. I feel ashamed. I'm not worthy. Weep.
@@zakariyaadeel2862 yeah this show recycled actors like crazy. In the episode Lifeblood from Season 5 Karl Urban who portrayed Caesar and Cupid also played a caveman
I think a lot does everyone realize
@@QilinRider21 Yes, and Sasmara was played by the actress who played Ephiny. But in fact this episode featured footage from the Amazon Hight movie which never aired and was maint to be a pilot for another series.
2:05 that music kicks in and I'm like, Xena! grab Gabby, run, NOW
These expressions are so lifelike, they oughta be comics
innocence gone😢
Yes
@@stephaniefaypage8028 It's a shame they stopped this series
I like the part of the deliverer and gabrielle sacrifice for dahak..
Gabrielle: Xena, how in the world did you fly across the room to save me from the pit of fire??
Xena: Gabrielle... I'm Batman!
She actuality learned the technique with the amazon of the south tribe.
They can connect themselves with the nature and inner energy.
It makes their body lighter and they were able to walk on threes and jump incredibly high
But if Xena is Batman then Gabrielle is Robin right? 😜
This show was so good! After this temple exploded, it left Stonehenge!
Love Xena! She's the best. I had all these videos/episodes on video 😀
I liked all of it except the series finally
Xena always had the darker episodes compared to the more light-hearted and humorous hercules.
Cause Xena was at her core, a dark character trying to reform so it only made sense
@@Trisof88 Hercules' Dahak story arc, which is basically the first half of season 5, is just as dark.
@@Bardim18 Yeah but Hercules was never battling darkness in the same way. For Xena it was internal and external. Hercules just battled it externally
Hercules could go very dark too especially in its fifth season.
@@Trisof88He did, in season 5. Iolaus' death messed up Hercules big time. He had to undergo the Druids' trials in Ireland to find his true self again.
Poor Gabrielle
I watched xena the warrior and she is the best when it comes to fighting the evil God's
and thuuuus begins the rift.
@@Bardim18 i never really watched hercules, i prob should.
Same here. "Looking Death In The Eye", the last episode before the timeskip would be a pretty good series finale.
Pro Tip: When you see the eyes change at 1:00 then you know you messed up. She's not the lady you want pissed at you.
Dahak would be no match for the one true God.
Xena's like 'No she ran into your knife 10 times!'
I see what you did there. Lol
1:43 how about “this isn’t the one god of the Israelites?” line?! Wow! Basically referencing the real true God, and the Trinity, far surpass all others! Chills!❤
Infamous backflip .... lol....
I love this channel!
I'd love to have Xena's courage!
I always wondered if Xenia had flying powers🤣😂🤣
Like Dahak can really take on the God of the Israelites, yeah okay cool story bro. God would wipe the floor with Dahak.
@@constantinetranos2225 It's been stated by Zarathustra in Hercules that Dahak is just as powerful as the God of Light but they're complete opposites.
His name is Yhwh. And Dahak more closely resembles Yaldebeoth, which Yhwh is mistaken for according to Gnostic Christians.
At 2:06 the music remids me of the music of Predator with Arnold.
I was thinking the same thing. I thought Gabrielle said, "raped me," when Xena embraced her.
@@ginay8800 Really??? Oh no...
1:36 The God of the Israelites will ALWAYS remain, period!

Anyone notice the deliverer has his own battle cry? Guh guh guh guh!
Everyone in this series seems to have a war cry except Hercules and Iolaus.
This was a game changer... 😭😭😭😭😭
Epic epic
Does anyone know why only the first season of Hercules is available to buy a digital copy of via RUclips, Amazon & iTunes and not Seasons 2-6? I wanted to buy the good episodes (particularly the acclaimed Dahak arc from the first half of Season 5), but frustratingly can't.
Fun fact the actor who plays Krafstar is the same actor who portays Borias
Lmao omg I just noticed after watching the series over 20 years. Whoa!
03:12 now he look better than before :-)
watching this now.. why not!
I saw this Dahak and wasn't impressed. Sauron was greater.
Then you should watch the Hercules episodes where Dahak possesses Iolaus.

Xena has beautiful eyes
HAPPY 56TH BIRTHDAY, LUCY LAWLESS, AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE!!!

Nice
Is that dude Lord Celeborn from LOTR??? Wow I never realized...
Borias reincarnated into crazy cult man.
A wizard did it
Well well Gabrielle... From where you're kneeling, it must seem like an 18-karat run of bad luck... Truth is, the game was rigged from the start.
it felt a little light
I like this.
When I first saw this, I thought Dahak was satan until I saw the first episode of season 5.
*EDIT:* I did some research and found out that in Zoroastrianism Dahaka is the son of Ahriman, not Ahriman himself. Also, Zarathustra is the founder of Zoroastrianism.
@@Bardim18 No, the episode where Xena and Gabriel were caught in the middle of a battle between heaven and hell.
She killed the girl but it was under confusion and deceit.
❤❤
HAPPY CAN'T DRIVE 55TH BIRTHDAY, LUCY LAWLESS, AND THAT'S THE BOTTOM LINE!!!
Dahak resemble Yaldebeoth in terms of goals. I wonder if they repurposed his name for the mythology.
Dahak is from Zoroastrianism and Persian mythology. He's the son of Ahriman, who's the Zoroastrian Devil which would make Dahak the Zoroastrian Antichrist pretty much.
The acting is like not bad, but good, but kinda bad, but good. It's basically awesome low budget programming!
This does not appear to be in your Season 3 playlist. Could you please add it in there?
