Me too. I wasn't even going to bother with it on my recordings and now I know that I know what it's for a can see a lot of songs that need it! Thank you Samori.
Man, I am just going to go ahead and hit the subscribe and notification buttons. I am going to incorporate the information that I am getting from you into a track that I am currently working on now. I am dissing m&m (again) a lot in this track as well. I am a 3 time and still current Guinness book record title holder for word's fastest rapper... Rebel XD, since 1987. Loving this series... This is what we need more of, experienced engineers educated beginners or even those who are just brushing up on the foundations... I made an account just to subscribe and like your series... Truly Amazing and taking time to do this, wouldn’t be surprised if one of the viewers go on to produce a top 40 hit in the near future!
Full Dynamic Range Compression helps with increasing gain of soft sounds and allowing high sound pressure to be transparent. Need low knee points and low ratios. You did a great job
I was gonna type in a request in the EQ video for fundamentals of compression. Viola a visit to your channel and i find it. You speak slowly, in a smooth calm way that lets all this valuable info just seep right in. Thank you so much Mr Coles.
I love your videos. I've been writing my own music for awhile n recently acquired n Ableton DAW. I've been able to improve my recordings but your videos give me the specifics I lack knowledge in. Thank you so much for taking the time to create these videos. 🙏
@@iamsamori Mostly Rock but there's some diversity. I recently released an album on Spotify Titled Mind Blown. Your giving me the opportunity to strengthen my weakest link n I can't thank you enough.
@@iamsamori I used AI to create the album cover. Some of the drums are live n some are not. With the exception of 1 song i played all the instrumentation. Did the vocals. All of the other mixing tutorials I've seen, are just people saying to do this or that, and if you don't, then it's wrong. I like how you explain the concepts in detail, and teach us how to do the job the right way.
Dude, your teaching technique has just made this all so clear to me. I used to be dumbfounded by compression and you really have opened the door for me! Muchos gracias mi amigo! Andy
I am glad the video helped, Andy! Compression is one of those topics that can be difficult to grasp, especially with all of the parameters to consider. Best of luck with your music and recordings!
I subscribed to your channel. As an amateur producer I have learned A LOT from your tutorials! You explain things clearly and I now understand compression and EQ much better than ever before! thank you!
Dude, you're awesome. I know a lot of other engineers would balk at presetting parameters or whatever, but for a beginner, it's a place to start. At least I know what I'm doing and why. I appreciate it, man. Another great vid.
Man I honestly love the way you explain everything from the very beginning , letting people know what everything does and what it means and the way they all come together at the end. Beautiful work bro. We need more people like you. I appreciate it because this are the type of lessons you need to know and you usually have to pay for, but yet you do it for free. Love you Man.
Thank you so much for sharing these videos! I've struggled with compression (and EQ too..) for years, but now it's all become very clear :) You are a great teacher, Sir! I'm inspired again, and eternally grateful!
Thank you so much, Johann! I appreciate your kind words. I am glad that you have found my videos helpful. The journey toward better recordings is endless. I, myself, am a perpetual student of the craft. Keep striving, Brother!
I realize that you posted your EQ and Compression videos years ago. I use a digital BOSS studio so I cannot see the waves as you demonstrate. Still, your definition of terms (such as 'gain' ,'release', etc.) was so incredibly clean and concise that it helped me so very much begin to understand what I was seeing in my studio. You are an amazing teacher with how you present your material! Thank you so much for keeping your videos up. They are very much appreciated.
Great video on the basics! - just a slight correction though re Ratio. With a ratio of 3:1, you say at around 11:17 - "...any audio that exceeds that threshold, is gonna be reduced by a third of its volume...". The actual reduction will actually be 2 thirds of its volume. A ratio of 3:1 means that for 3 dB over the threshold, only 1 dB will be output. (a gain reduction of 2 dB).
Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials. Your break the down the explanation to the basics that all concepts are easy to grasp and apply. You deliver Theory and Practice just right. Thanks from Chicago.
Thanks for this informative video. Was wondering if you could do a video on the concept of stacked compression or multiple compressors on one instrument on a single track and what settings or techniques you would use for each type of instrument?
Thanks Samori great explanation on the topic been trying to understand this for a kool min got it now i just have to apply it thanks for the video and the detailed explanation and hands on 👌
Thanks Mr Haffy 3! These videos are the initial installments of a complete series that you'll be able to check out in the next few months. I hope you're able to utilize the information that I presented.
great video. 5 is just a definition of "make up gain", in that gain is not volume. At least per my instructors back in production school in the analog late 90's. I just want to make sure people have clear definitions in context outside of their own studios and with engineers. “Gain is a measure of the ability of a two port circuit (often an amplifier) to increase the power or amplitude of a signal from the input to the output port by adding energy converted from some power supply to the signal. Volume usually means the decibel (dB) output of a sound system. That sounds more complicated than it is. Basically, volume is how loud something is after it's been processed. So really, volume = loudness. It's the loudness you hear.
Are these concepts also applicable to music production that does not involve live instruments, for ex., making music in FL Studio? Thank you, great course.
p995 Thank you! Yes, compression and EQ are relevant whenever you’re mixing audio. So, with music production, you can apply the same concepts. Often in music production, the sounds are pretty high quality, so you just need to ensure that whatever audio processing that you do is necessary.
Another great video, keep up the good work! Also, I notice that you reside in Philly, I'm from Ardmore, Pa. I'll be coming home around June 10, 2017 , maybe we could link and build. I've done a lot of music & video production in the surrounding areas of Philly, awhile back. Continue to elevate... Peace & Blessings!
This is a really good video, but dude, the audio in your video tutorial is bad. At first it's panned a bit to the left, then after, the left side is cut out. Great video nonetheless, just makes it a bit ironic.
The concept of compression is evil, attack?release? I feel bad for the free frequencies that we're captured by kidnappers, I mean transducers. Just kidding😁 Thanks for helping
