9 speed Sora works so well, I can't see much potential benefit to electronic shifting. Going back many decades ago, I couldn't see going back to friction shifting. The facility of immediate shifts is a huge advantage. Free of significant climbs, competition riding solo, the dirt cheap Sora fits the needs admirably. Also with dry non English weather, cables work great. Such are the ramblings of a long term cyclist in his dotage! I do feel your combined pain. My 88 year old mother is in better health than my wife at present.

Also a very stressful and worrying time for you, and the rest of the family Mike, so best wishes to all of you. 10 days to fit, test and produce a video on an item such as that? A bicycle bell maybe, but not a wireless group set. You're doing the best thing, trying out the real world experience ownership of it, long term. Fitting it to a gravel bike will be a great test of waterproofing and ability to work when bits are caked in mud! Great stuff and once again, best wishes!

@@WheelersAtLarge Give it a few years and electronic shifting might well trickle down to be standard on most bikes over about five hundred quid so it's interesting to see how it performs long term. Do we need electronic shifting? No I don't think we do (not tried it mind), but I think I might've said much the same thing about disc brakes when they started appearing and now wouldn't be without them!
Stay strong Mike, Julie will feed off your strength and you will both beat the C. I'm sticking with my Ultegra and 105 mechanical set ups. Nice and simple, a bit like me 😁
Mike on a different note appreciate your reviews. I am staying with rim brakes and mechanical. I have ultegra on mattie and dura ace on iggy. I love them both but ultegra is much simpler bunkie

@@MontyGravel I will say more about that in the future and fit the Wheeltop calipers as I'm still using the Shimano ones but I can't see how that would make a difference. I'll probably reduce the oil level too so there's more lever travel. Still more tweaking to be done.
The interesting/annoying thing is Wheeltop GeX is around the corner..... Will we see a 2x version...... Only time will tell!! Oh, and keep working on the RUclips, it can be a very good distraction..... But you probably know that. All the best, Jon

From my own experience, I worried more how my wife and family was coping than any tests or procedures I went through. It was a few days after my operation when my sister told me of her cancer diagnosis, and this affected me more than anything else.
