I know, right. Maybe Permanating but I’ll let it slide in light of all the other great music he’s done. Sometimes I think Steven could make a Country/Western song sound good.
I'm really impressed by your video and how you managed to caught in that dark subtle atmosphere. SW is a master of creativity and inspires so many to people to be creative on their own. Creativity creates Creativity. Maybe this world isn't as lost as i sometimes fear.
This is truly epic video which I've been coming back to time and again for more than a decade. Your take on Where We Would Be is also amazing. Hope you've not given up on your talent and are creating more awesome stuff :)
Great video at all!!! Very much in the Lasse Hoile's style!!! Great Work pals!!! "The 78"... Nice title... Maybe the year SW comitted his first crime??? ...
Great music, and atmospheric video! It's great that such music inspires fans to express their emotions this way. I liked this video, it's sincere. The author has found out what's on his mind, and whatever it is, it's cool. And it turned out well. This once again shows that such music is heard not by empty people, but by those who have something to say.
This sounds like a deranged version of the Wheel of Fortune theme song set to the darkest piece of music imaginable. And I think that's why I love it so much. Is it weird that I like this music?
It’s okay, I get you. I’m just a pretty normal upbeat person too but there’s something in this song, The dark, dystopian images that just hit some musical sweet spot in my brain. I don’t know what it is, and it’s in much of S/W’s music but as long as you’re not a serial killer or living your life like it’s in this video I think you’re okay. Just enjoy it and appreciate the mysteries of the brain that allows us to enjoy this.
This song is an insane gem tucked away in an album I otherwise listened to very little. Wondering why it shows up as 'Untitled' in my album and there is no information about it on Spotify? Was it really super deluxe or..?
I have the record on vinyl, which has 4 bonus songs. It's not even on there! I guess it was a 5th bonus song and CD only. Puncture Wound and Collecting Space are great too though.
+jose pablo martinez gamboa It'd be more accurate to be described as game changing musical act with full of experiments and variety where each one of them do their job as they're supposed to and every side project of the band is total crap(with very few exceptions), whose music have been influential for many people and their political messages are as humane and realistic as of The Final Cut (Pink Floyd album). And how hipster they are, well, I leave that up to you.
***** Pere Ubu deserves to be called experimental and even Impressionist in the other hand there's Radiohead with a bunch of smartass Smiths fanboys that wanted to make something commercial out of Krautrock. It's a shame Radiohead steals the gold of bands with a real message like My Bloody Valentine, Cop Shoot Cop, etc
Guys, don't know if RUclips get this as spam or something, just wanna tell you you can get this song in .wav for free in Steven's official and personal SoundCloud. :) soundcloud . com / steven-wilson / the-78-1 (remove spaces)
+DDevilized The Downward Spiral is more than any of that pretentious krautpoppers of radiohead could do, no one describes that album better than Scaruffi ''Each song is both a battlefield for the highest possible density of truculent sound effects and a largely-autobiographical ode-psychodrama. The thundering polyrhytms, the chaotic and cacophonous orgies, the grotesque "danse macabres", the chamber blues pieces, the harsh counterpoints, the mournful melodies were carefully assembled to deliver the sense of a man without a past or a present or a future, a man who was a pure abstraction in search of meaning, pure form in search of content '' A mandatory album of the rock innovation
+rawr e I am not the only one who noticed it if you read the comments, but that's Steven Wilson, the guy is a talented producer and I respect that but as far as creativity he just taps into other people style and makes albums out of them. Almost all his rock music is wannabe Pink Floyd (early stuff), then wannabe Radiohead, wannabe NIN, wannabe 70s prog etc. The guy is as original as tits on tumblr.
+18francesco18 Since WHEN has musical influence (or even to emulate other artists) been something to be ashamed of? We'd still be listening to people banging on the solid logs if it were classless to be influenced by the guy that went from the solid log to the hollow log. I hear bunches of sounds that have influenced this incredibly talented young man... most I like, some I don't care for (there are very few of those). I hear everything from King Crimson to CS&N... from Yes to Talk Talk to the Moody Blues. Wilson doesn't "copy" other people. He has his own style, he is very progressive and obviously determined to perfect (to his liking) the sounds he grew up listening to. Any REAL artist that has influenced this guy is flattered and digs his music. As long as an artist influences other artists... and Wilson does (that's why they've called on him for his services since he was just a boy), he has the satisfaction of knowing he's an artist and that his art is unique. Just enjoy the music. This is not an interview for the music critic position at Billboard Magazine.
I heard this song for first time five years ago when I was alive, and now I already threw my life away, I give up
:(
Are you still here? Can we talk?
Discarded love today, and north will soon become
I lost too much today, so myth will never come
I threw my life away
And for what?
I blew my chances too
I see the bitter truth
I give up
Relinquish all connection, and be yourself for once
Distrusting insurrection, so thank yourself for once
I threw my life away
And for what?
I blew my chances too
I see the bitter truth
I give up
What seems so real today, will soon enough become
The thing you've always craved, surely now I've become
I threw my life away
And for what?
I blew my chances too
I see the bitter truth
I give up
I give up
I threw my life away
And for what?
I blew my chances too
I see the bitter truth
I give up
I give up
Steven Wilson is the personification of Quality,
No matter how long it's been, I'm always drawn back to this song and video like a siren's call.
traccia della madonna, bellissima, un crescendo incredibile
I wish Steven Wilson would make a song I DIDN'T like. How can someone be THAT perfect?
I felt the same way but then it finally happened with TTB and the future bites
I know, right. Maybe Permanating but I’ll let it slide in light of all the other great music he’s done. Sometimes I think Steven could make a Country/Western song sound good.
@@terrencekanzig4270 I def feel like he jumped the shark a bit with permanating.... but I can still listen to it and I LIKE IT!
@@MrGIJuu I liked both of them.... what do you think about The Harmony Codex?
Very nice song and a full of meaning video clip. Long Live Wilson ! By far the greatest music genious of the 21st century.
Damn good note. The clip corresponds perfectly. The industrial climate, the still figures, the disturbing images.. flawless.

Phantastic interpretation Katya! Well Done! Together with "where we would be"", which was my favorite!

I wish you still made videos.
I'm loving the video, great work. Very Insurgentes-ish.
Yeah it really fits

Love this
some of the orphans songs are in the Insurgentes (movie) DVD
i have it as "untitled" didn't know it was originally called "The 78" =P
same!
I found out by shazaming it in my own library
@sprawler2121
The 78 is also availeble on Itunes.
Man this is a really great song. Why did he hide it?
@thishouseisours doubtful... it's referring to the disc.

@AneeAniAnees If you add the song to your playlist, it's repeated automatically... (if its the only one in there)
What kind of fucked up shit is this? I love it
Steven Wilson
Thom yorke, is that you?
thought I've discovered new radiohead song
+Nodar kontselidze Thom wishes he could write like Steven

Probably his most obvious attempt at a Nine Inch Nails "interpretation", never fails to bring a smile to my face.
+DDevilized i think i was the only one who sensed a NIN atmosphere :O
Yeah, for some reason people like to compare everything with Radiohead nowadays. Steven's always been a big fan of NIN.

It has elements of that sound but it isn't that that similar tbh.
Go to Steven Wilson's soundcloud page.
@sprawler2121 On his Soundcloud for free! Go get 'em!
@nicoot Hasn't it been pushed back to the 5th of October??
Is that Lasse Hollie footage you used?
If it's not, it's someone who really wants to be Lasse Hoile
Agreed. The footage is pretty cool :P
What city and country was recorded?
One of countres , where world bank were operating !
Tihomir Tomov yes, maybe one of the several countries (still) in crisis in Eastern Europe after colapse of the soviet union
This song is not 78, its call "untitled"
Well. No. Thats not true.

does this song have an alternate title??
almost seems like a totheark video
