- Royal Navy clearance divers in Malta, 1969. Don't quote me... but I believe they're diving on the Tribal class destroyer HMS Maori sunk in 1942 (not 1941 as stated in the film). The only other destroyer wreck I can think of in the area is HMS Southwold, Hunt class, although she went down in a minefield.
The clean shaven youth on comms , is none other than my old Fleet chief petty officer , John Dadd , a great diver , more importantly a great bloke, proud to have served with him 👍
Did a final clearance in the Hbr in 1985. Recovered 4 X torpedoes in launching mount from the Maori site. After 20 minutes of hammering away with a trenching tool in nil viz to clear around them I broke off some piping before being called up. On arrival at surface took out the piped to find I had been hammering at 3 anti aircraft shells!. Great vid. Superb quality.
The video appears to have been shot inside the Grand harbour at :00:27 as the background shows Fort St.Elmo. also, HMS Maori was raised and scuttled in 1945 according to some diving books and this video is dated 1969 above.
It was Maori in Grand Harbour. The Lt Cdr was my Dad.
0:09 - Funny detail for watch lovers crowd: the guy are using a "NATO" looking strap in their clock - but "NATO/G10" strap specification (DEF STAN 66-15/1) came in 1973.
Is that a cwc wrist watch ?
Seamaster 300 ref 165.024

@@ml696 the Rolex Milsub ref. 5513/5517 were introduced in the early part of the 1970s to replace the Seamaster 300.
Can anyone explain why they use rebreathers instead of open-circuit gear? It’s a non-contested environment.
Just got a cdba set similar to these . Anyone got experience of using them ?.
