Michael Lorenzen is still in the league too...although he doesnt hit anymore but he used to when he played for the Reds and was only the 2nd player in MLB history to get the W as a pitcher while hitting a HR and playing a non-pitcher position in the same game. The first since Ruth.
@@Posirepcannot compare the two…not even in the same caliber. Ohtani is top of the elite in BOTH. Others CAN hit and pitch..thats it! Cole also hit HR as a pitcher
He’s a Pittsburgh guy. For every good coach in the Pittsburgh area, there’s 500 bad ones. Especially in that age, and I was playing that same time. It’s not nearly the same as it is in warm weather states and that’s what did his career. There’s so many of us with the same outcome, but he made it to the show
Great video, one thing I might suggest, is talking about why he was so successful in college and the minors. The pitch he throws in the debut has a velo of 94, so he’s probably not in the upper echelon of velocity. Did he just have great breaking stuff. Also a side note, his delivery gives me Jordan Montgomery vibes haha
@@hustleouttheboxHe never really had a good season at the plate in the minors. Analysts generally say that someone who has shown improvement between full season performances, especially at important make-or-break levels like aa and aaa, is likely to adjust better to the majors. He was amazing on the mound in his first couple of full-ish seasons in the minors, which is probably why they rushed him into the rotation and expected things to catch up over time. Sometimes that happens, and analysts are often wrong, but he never really turned into the videogame style dual threat that shohei has since become.
@@antonioreconquistadorI agree. People easily bring up Highschool College and minor players of their accomplishments which cannot be compared to major league long distance travels and grueling schedules and competition. Ohtani is not easy to beat. Simply because he is really a freak of nature. Shohei has a discipline which few can keep on top of his blessed talent and physique. The consistency is the hardest.
Showtime was already playing in the Nippon big leagues. McKay had to grind through the minors using wood and throwing against blokes already seasoned …so no comparison.
I think the main difference, in comparing him with Shohei, is that, not only is Shohei, quite literally, built different, work ethic and everything. He also had an organization that got on their knees to sign him and were 200% behind him being a two-way guy, plus, he didn't have to go through years of minor league ball where he could've found questionable or uptight coaching along the way, as he was put straight away, at 18, on the main squad.
Brendan Mckay somewhere - Shohei Ohtani, you’re taking everything I worked for MF, I’m gonna play against your Fn ass, you know who the real competition is, not these clown that you already punked in Spring training, you know you beat them already, that’s an easy MVP run, You want that real shit right here!
@@hustleoutthebox could’ve been their everyday SS but it’s amazing how one decision can change things. De La Cruz at SS is so exciting to watch there now.
@hustleoutthebox what do you think there looking for from him?(would love to hear your thoughts). To me He has shown consistent contact and really good speed and utility on defense.
I still really believe had teams let Zack Greinke be a 2 way he would've succeeded. I really believe he would've been a 240 250 hitter and have a 800> ops
definitely not lol, he has a career .598 ops during the NL era. It's not like ohtani has 10x the time to practice hitting, I'm sure greinke was getting his reps in the cage during that time and .598 was what came out of that.
@hustleoutthebox yeah, for being 27, and stuck in the minors, his future is bleak. But if he proves himself in a bullpen or starting role, he should be able to have a solid career
When Brendan became famous for his two-way play in university, he didn't even know Shohei's name who had then a certain success in Nippon Ham. Is it impossible for yanks to play an active and great role with the two-way like Shohei?

i dont think he was literally inserted as a hitter but rather hit a HR as he was hitting as a pitcher if i’m not mistaking. But he was a unit lol
@hustleoutthebox He did start in CF for a bit as wel.
Not like Ohtani but he did play for a time as a 2 way player

I agree but still trying to figure out why he simply couldn’t hit

great points!
Rick ankiel did both at the majors just different years
And Micah Owings
what about him?
@@hustleouttheboxhe was before McKay and arguably better hitter
his junior year is crazy i have an insane pitcher in baseball 9 that has thrown 2 perfect games and 1 no hit no run game and his era is 0.17
WOW! thats very impressive!

you can also do a video on all the TB pitchers that are out for the season

Very Interesting video!
What happened? He faced professional hitters and pitchers PLUS his arm fell apart
so many shoulder injuries as well

"What happened to Ruben Mateo?"
So often a first round pick in OOTP expansion franchise drafts
Look like he should have just focused on pitching bad direction from the rays
after those first few years your probably right
Hunter Greene could have been a 2-way guy too. He was a stellar shortstop coming out of high school.
agree he was phenomenal in HS actually considering the best hitting HS SS in the country

I liked Brendan McKay, but I would have called him the failed Shohei Ohtani.
i think we understood the point.
Probably shoulda taken that 34th round money, instead of hanging around college for 3 years. It would have sped up his pro development.
no way bro lol he got millions when he was drafted by the Rays but then again this is always just a crapshoot
hoping he bounces back!
me too!
His downfall can be directly attributed to the universe getting back at him for that horrible dyed hairdo his senior year in college.

throws righty dummy
ohtani hits lefty he doesnt throw lefty hard to call someone left handed when they throw with their right hand
