My mom made this, too. It's the best! She sometimes added red pepper. It's good of you to do some of the chopping for your mom, but I'm happy to see she still enjoys cooking for her family.
My mom used to make that dish. My grandma grew renkon in her garden in Waimea valley on Kauai. Yummy! I love that root! She used to call it hasu and also cooked it in nishime.
Hi Nickey, and Nickey's mother! The renkon looks really delicious. I always think it is such a pretty vegetable. It almost looks like lace, as if somebody carved it on purpose. Thanks to both of you for the video, and I hope you'll get more comfortable weather there soon!
Sugoi, Nikki no okasama!! Ureshi ne! With your weight gain! Thank you for the renkon recipe. My okasama used to make it, like that as well. I used to dislike it so much, then one day, I decided to give it a try again, and ended up, falling in love with it. I cannot wait to see the upcoming tsukemono video! Thank you for sharing! ♥️
Looks delicious, and now looking forward to the cabbage video. I'm so glad your mom is gaining weight, too! Hope that means she's feeling healthier and that you don't have to worry quite as much.
Your mother did a great job of making the lotus root and it looks so nice. I have not heard of that vegetable before, but would like to have some to make myself.
I love lotus root too! So expensive in Honolulu, $3.99 for two little pieces. I like to do a Chinese stir fry with pork, shiitake mushroom and scallions in soy and oyster sauce. Thanks Niki and mom for sharing yr recipe.
@@lorikutara645 I would love to share but it would be too lengthy for comment section. It is a basic Cantonese stir fry dish of meat and veggies, flavored with garlic, ginger, soy and oyster sauce. If you google for "Chinese stir fry lotus root recipes", you will get different ways of preparation.
I love lotus root. Haven't had any in ages. I use to call them the "hairy" vegetable. Your mom is looking good and more healthier with the extra weight.
Great video Nikki. Love that your son likes the lotus root vegetable so much, and the grandma makes it soo well. Also it is wonderful to hear that she is gaining weight too. Keep it up obachan. Love to you guys....

I thought you were going to deep fry it, but this is better!
So nice your Mom gained weight. ❤ What is the other sauce she used on the lotus root?

Ask your mom what the name of renkon stems are in Japanese. My mom used to cook them but I never knew the name. Please ask your mom.
