U.S. Gold paid Capcom for the Commodore 64 rights to the game. It was U.S. Gold that released the C64 version, not Capcom. Capcom could have told them their C64 version was a dumpster fire and it completely doesn't matter because its release was not Capcom's decision to make.

@airthrowDBT this may be a question that you already had answered (this is a year old comment) but U.S.A Gold made the prototype of SF2 Genesis version
Scott and Max, the two fighters that appear in the opening of Street Fighter II fighting in front of a crowd, are far more interesting than Chen and Takuma.

I love Love LOVE your coverage of everything Street Fighter II. So awesome! Between you and your wonderful wife, I get so much joy and knowledge about my favorite past time. ❤
I always love and enjoy your SF coverage and this is one those interesting coverages ever done. I didn’t even there was an unlicensed SF2 Turbo that came on the Genesis/MegaDrive that came out years ago.
I do love how the “incredibly time consuming and difficult method of decompressing and decompressing” that was described here is literally something we can do in like 15 seconds with a genesis rom now lol.
As I sat intrigued watching the crazy story of "Street Fighter 3 : 18 Person" which even I, a hardcore fan, had never even heard of, I thought of a subject which absolutely deserved a video by Big Daddy Top Hat. Have you ever heard of "SFIBM", an impressive and ambitious Korean MS-DOS project from 1991 which, in words of the creator Jung Young Dug, is the first editable fighting game on PC and it spawned a lot of street fighter hacks and other crossovers (from my mind I can think of SFLIU by Derek Liu and SFJENN by Jenn Dollari, which includes Kitana and Milenna to the SF2 roster!!! Jenn even still streams to Twitch to this day and could be easier to contact) and was even the inspiration for the M.U.G.E.N. engine? There is VERY FEW information about it online, and I would like a Big Daddy Top Hat treatment on it. It seems like a perfect fit for the channel content and audience. Best regards and thank you for all the amazing content.
It surprises me there no new characters on the 18 person street fighter it’s like taking care of 7 puppies personally I’ve always wanted to play the prototype street fighter 2 turbo that much I’ve seen videos about it before. Best regards Nikita.K
You know, now that I think about it, Takuma and Chzhen are actually in official releases of Street Fighter II. I know that they’re at least in Super Street Fighter II Turbo as secret playable characters, and they’re very easy to select. To select Takuma, simply highlight Ryu and press Roundhouse (HK/ Heavy Kick); to select Chzhen simply highlight Ken and press Short (LK/ Light Kick). Trust me, it actually works! Don’t believe me, go and try it out for yourself! Oh, and once you do, please let me know about your experience.
10:28 Re! I'm pretty salt, you had me on the edge of my seat, hyped! Mad hyped, and i feel like i just got rick roled. Eh, have a like it was a good troll.
While I have an eight year old fondness for SFII I don't quite understand its enduring playership. There is no air block, no dash, and you can just mete out which jab or DP moves win out and spam them to win. It was cool at the time but certainly not fun any longer, especially considering half the cast is unplayable against Dhalsim and Guile. I also love that on level 7 difficulty the CPU can do things that are not possible for players, like hyper jab and move-cancel spamming.
Every time I've tried to watch this video on Roku, they play an ad that makes the screen go grey. Then the video won't start and I have to exit out of RUclips all together. It doesn't seem to happen with any other video.
I know this version is "good" compared to bootlegs, but whatever is happening with Ryu when he's in the air like in 8:30, and earlier, would make me throw my controller.
Speaking of SF2 it absolutely BLOWS MY MIND how what it became, and what the rest of the series became, was dependent on the glitch that combos (allegedly) were, and people wanting faster gameplay... A god damn MISTAKE made fighters into what we love today.
I'd like to clarify something there. The glitch wouldn't be the existence of combos itself, but rather the ability to cancel normal moves into special moves. As i understand it, initially cancels were just a side-effect of having a few frames of leniency during special move inputs, so that if you pressed the button just before completing the directional input and then released that button just after completing the directional input, the normal move animation would stop progressing and the special move would start (what's known as Negative Edge: the special move commands check if the button is being pressed OR released, both are valid triggers). To put it more simply, the "glitch" in SF2 WW was that some normals could be cancelled into specials AFTER making contact, the intention was for them to be cancellable only during early startup frames. After that, they turned cancels into a feature by setting a yes/no cancel property to each individual move in the game, rather than it depending on how many frames it takes for the move to actually hit.
@@manuelmadama1636 Two things fam. One, I said combos were ALLEGEDLY a glitch. And two, thank you for your detailed and informative comment. If I'd tried to explain it I would not have been able to do it half as good as this. So thanks again for taking the time to type this out and share it.
Can't say as that I've done any indepth analysis on the matter, and I'm sure someone has, but the unreleased/bootleg/whatever Genesis SF2 Turbo sure does have a lot in common with the PC Engine version.
I'm such a SF2 nerd I recognized Ryu fighting Sagat still had the "NIN" 50,000 high score. That literally takes more effort than actually playing the game up to the Sagat fight, LOL
LOLOL epic troll! Those crafty Chinese trolls bamboozled everyone with a palette-swapped Ryu and Ken. Not only that but clearly they are still trolling us all to this day. This is 12 minutes of my life I will never get back!
Hello good Sir, I bought a copy of Ultra SF2 The Final Challengers for the switch. It was a bit pricey around 60 US shipping included.was it a good buy?
Ultra Street Fighter II isn't just palette swaps, guy clearly doesn't understand what the intent of that game was in the first place. It was Intended to be a rebalance of super turbo with some new mechanics and characters. I know not everyone actually plays fighting games with that kind of competitive knowledge thing, but even just looking alt ultra you can tell that's not what it is.
NES bootleg fighting games were even worse with that gimmick. Pretend the roster is twice or even three times as large by including a bunch of name swap clones.
Have you done a video on Jet Set Radio Future? I remember it getting a 10 on IGN at the time and was my favourite game growing up. Def Jam Fight For NY was a good one too

If that Genesis prototype was unacceptable to Capcom, how the heck did that Commodore 64 version of Street Fighter II get released?
Great point
The Genesis prototype was unacceptable to SEGA, not to Capcom. That’s why they had to take it in house after that and redo it.

Personally, I would've edited Chun-Li's sprite to be wearing Cammy's costume. Difficult given the tools of the era, but not impossible.
Thank you so much for all your content on fighting games mate, never stop!!
Just once I want the story to be “American subsidiary makes recommendation; Japanese HQ says you guys knows best.”
