I appreciate every single one of you so much that it hurts. Can you feel all the love? I know I can. Thank You for being amazing!
Hi guys! Hope you enjoy this walkthrough for my new, unnecessarily extra book rating system, the silly infomercial bit and sort of a review for Stalking Jack the Ripper there at the end? Hah
How's your Sunday going? x
+Book Roast oh also I forgot to mention that I might be using it for my reviews as it helps to get my thoughts in order 😂🖤🌚
Love it, makes a lot of sense to me
Okay, ot took me awhile to find this, but that infomercial-!! "Does thie frequently result in your untimely demise?" I swear, that phrase is now a part of my life
The only thing that I would change is that a 10 point scale is just a doubling of a 5 point scale, so when you have divided the total by 7 to get the average of say 6.3, you can just halve that number to get a 5-point scale value of 3.15, or 3 stars.
@@bookhuggah That's very true and for some this would be definitely the way to go! I just wanted for myself to make the 5 star rating a narrower window as to me it is a harder goal for a book to reach so wanted to reflect that! ^^
Your infomercial was hilarious! I like CAWPILE, but EPIC LAW of rating also sounds great :)
+rachel EPIC LAW!!!! How did I not we that * massive face palm * it’s too late now haha
THE INFOMERCIAL THO
I love this. CAWPILE. You really should start CAWPILE video's for books you read and break the book down based on CAWPILE. That would amazing reviews.
That's the plan! :)
I can’t tell you how much this helped me lol. I have been having a hard time rating recently. I feel like after I first get finished with a book, I tend to rate it much higher than I would if I waited a week or so. I tried your system out on a few of the books I recently read and found my ratings to be much more accurate/true. Thank you for being your extra self ❤️❤️❤️
Love it!
I think CAWPILE sounds really cool haha, it's like a pile of caws... these blessed-by-Poe himself crows or ravens cawing about happily :)) caw caw caw! A pile of 'em!
I do organise my reading a bit on goodreads but I never left a rating for a book. The 5-star system seems so harsh to me :)) Like you, I grew up with a 10-'leveled' grading system. And, yeah, there are so many layers to a book, giving it just ONE note / grade seems missplaced.
Personally I think I'd add one more 'parameter' / factor: imagination / uniqueness / creativity / originality. One of those, a mix of them, another synonym idk :)) for me it's important in a book, to have some at least modically fresh ideas.
So happy you did the infomercial hahah
My system is pretty similar, right down to the things I judge. The spot where we differ is how I calculate. I rate each field on a scale of one to ten, but when I add them up, instead of averaging, I search for x. For example, with An Enchantment of Ravens, using CAWPILE, I added up to get 38, which divided by 7 gets 5.4, which on the CAWPILE scale gets 3 stars. Which actually felt a smidge to high for me. So I tried my calculating system. I add up each field to 38. Then do 38/70 = x/100. 38 x 100 = 3,800. 3,800/70 = 54. Now for the star rating. 54/100 = x/5. 54 x 5 = 271. 271/100 = 2.7. So I can choose either to round up or keep my star rating at 2 and for this particular book I stuck with 2.
Your system sounds great. I took screenshots of the important bits so I can remember this tomorrow after my migraine wears off. Thanks for sharing.
Wow, this system is incredible! I love it so much! I'm definitely going to try it out. Favourited the video so I can easily get back to it.
Honestly, you make it sound like you're silly coming up with this system, but I think it's brilliant!
I think it's silly as it's quite extra for what it is but I am definitely so happy with it and have so much fun with CAWPILE! I believe it makes my thoughts more organised! Hope you'll find it accurate too!
I think it will definitely be useful in one way or another! I´m also just really impressed by how you thought this through. It´s so cool! :D I hope it keeps working well for you!
I like this a lot! And CAWPILE may also be adapted to writers, seven things we need to try and get right. Like, we need CAWPILE merch!
+R. F. Laurel haha I’m so glad you enjoyed it 😂❤️ that’s actually a good point, it’s useful to see what I rated books on so if I do start writing again I can see what I need to look out for!
Wow I am LATE to the party! Hahaha! Definitely using this system starting right now!! You're amazing!
I do something similar. I first give the book an overall enjoyment rating (which usually similar to a characters, plot and intrigue rating because those are what makes a book fun to me) and I will add points or round up my rating if the writing or atmosphere was done particularly well, and knock off points or round down if the book had poorly executed cliche tropes.
So, for example, for Night Circus it was a 3 star for me because I liked it, but it lacked the thrilling plot I was hoping for. but I had to make it a 3.5 rounded up to 4 because it was so enchanting and beautiful, with a great atmosphere.
I find this soo funny!! It is very much appreciated as you are being objective of things that are just your opinion. I love all the details! (PS yesterday finished HP and Goblet of Fire, and it is wonderful! I feel like when i finish all of them i am going to have to reread them again just to pick up all the things i feel like i may have missed the first time around. But SO good. I really do feel like i dont even remember watching the movies at all. Which makes it even better. ) Iki!
This made total sense to my brain, I often get bungled up on how to rate a book because so many different factors go into it and this just completely simplified it for me, so I'm going to use this as my rating system from now on.
Your new system is amazing! The little comercial thing at the beginning of the video made me want to use it (It was amazing!)
I rate books based on just how I feel about them but I also consider all the aspects you mentioned (not as scientificaly as CAWPILE). If I feel some of the aspects are poor or something is lacking the rating is low. If everything is great so is the rating. I also rate the books after I finish them and I don't allow myself to change the rating because it's so focused on how I feel about the book that it would require a reread to see if I actually feel different about it or it's someone's opinion influencing my own (As an example: I gave Twilight 4 stars when I was 14 and since I've heard so many things about it and I understand why it is problematic but when I was 14 I really liked it so the rating is still 4 stars since I haven't reread it.) This makes so little sense haha
This is a fantastic idea! I think I will use slightly different categories but I like your conversion system. Also, the infomercial was hilarious 😂
I love your rating system!! I have a particular one too (it’s only a couple degrees less extra 😂) that I made a video about. Mine incorporates a lot of the same pieces.. writing style, characters, plot, enjoyment, and then I put pacing on its own because that’s something that can really make or break a book for me, but it felt wrong trying to squeeze that with the plot or writing.
pacing is definitely really important! I think I sort of consider it under the intrigue section
THANK U SO MUCH 😘😍
Ur explanation saved my life 🤗
Sorry for stealing it 😅
But it was sooo helpful 😀
Haha 😂 I might have to steal this though!
+Astrid B you’re more than welcome to 😂😂
your intro literally gives me life ALL. THE. TIME. ❤
+readerella thank you!
This is a really interesting rating system and I can see how it would work very well for you. I haven't thought in depth about a specific rating system for me yet. Mine is mostly: "It was okay; it was good; it was great; it was amazing!" Some variation of that. But if I am going to write reviews on Goodreads and add specific book reviews to my channel content it does make sense to come up with a system for myself to have a consistent set of measurements.
I usually rate books based on what goodreads stars equal overall based on enjoyment (1=dislike, 2=meh, 3=like, 4=really like, 5=love), but I like your more in-depth system! I may have to give something like that a try, as it does seem much more precise.
+NallyGene I find it kind of fun running it through it and it made me think about the book aspects more and actually found it helpful for reviews! 😂 but it is very extra
Thank youuuuu! My brain has muchos love for your brain right now. I love systems but always get confused or so very extra it hurts so having something like this to use is epicness! 💜
Omg this is so clever! I just give 3,4 or 5 stars to books without thinking about it 😂
also this system seems really effective and cool! love the acronym :)
I also have an incredibly extra rating system, so I'm glad I'm not the only one! I really enjoy your thought process here and it looks like it really helps you find your true rating, so I think this is great!
That infomercial is like something they would show on the shopping channel 😂
+Gary Watters exactly 😂❤️
I love videos like this! I'm also really into putting things into categories, so hearing you get to the nitty-gritty of your rating system was pure heaven 😍 I use the standard 5 star system and I'm very much an enjoyment gal, BUT I'm also really strict when it comes to the writing style (that's like... number two priority for me).
I`ve just discovered this way of rating books, and though I find it quite intriguing--and certainly a sort of step up from the basic 5 stars system--I find myself reluctant to attribute equal value to all those seven aspects. In that regard, the end rating feels less flexible by forcing you to take into account facets of the book that might have been of lesser significance in a given narrative.
This is not only hilarious - I love your approach. I am laughing and impressed all at once! I want to steal it and make CAWPILE the new standard in rating books :D
I was considering if I want to start a channel or not because I suck at reviewing books. For now I will be focusing on other videos but I really will start using your system to improve my review and rating game :D The future on Goodreads: "And this book is a 7.8 on the CAWPILE scale."
Yes. I love this logic.
I totally go by my feelings at the time of finishing, but it would be nice to have a strict system!
Hi! The infomercial completely sold me on this! Ahaha I think CAWPILE is, honestly, truly amazing! I think the conversion with the decimals part is the more necessary and accurate extra ever ahaha
I also usually rate books on "that feeling" kinda system and when I write reviews I feel that they are all over the place because I haven't found a structure to do them yet. Do you mind if I try it in my reviews? I always credit you, ofc!!
And I'm very curious about Stalking Jack The Ripper and Hunting Prince Dracula! They are all over the book community and seem like a fun time ^^
I love this video! I couldn't have come up with something as precise and detailed (because I'm not creative or maybe just too lazy, lol), but I could see myself using this. The infomercial had me laughing so hard! :)
I’d be interested to have a go at this! When I read my next book I think I’ll try it :)!
Holy shit that was detailed and amazing!!! I only rate on feel at the moment, but I definitely need to find a proper rating scale that works for me at some point! Xx
Wooow this rating system is complicated but also awesome! Great job G! You really have amazing ideas!!!
Ah the infomercial is so funny I couldn’t stop laughing. I love this CAWPILE system and hope I can use it to unravel my thoughts on books I read going forward. Thanks! 😊
Oh hell, the infomercial was so funny :D I really like your rating system, I rate my books in a similar way!
That's actually quite a neat system! I can usually tell during the book how I feel and how I would rate it, but sometimes there are books I'm having mixed feelings, so I might use this scale for those books!
OMG "DO YOU RESORT TO OCCULT RITUALS TO TAP INTO SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE" HAHA yessss
haha that was freaking hilarious! That infomercial! I rate my books right now purely for enjoyment and my written reviews end up being "Yeah, I liked it." I think I'll give CAWPILE a go since you already did all the math and conversions for me! :) Awesome video!
Haha glad you enjoyed the video!! I think rating purely for enjoyment is totally fine too but I just find CAWPILE so fun to use it's insane :D
Freaking love your channel !
I am adopting this rating system as of today. Brilliant. My organiser's heart is full.
Wow, it takes commitment to use this rating system for all the books you read...I guess the more you read, the more of a critical thinker you become. Loved your video, keep up the good work!
Wow. This is so scientific. I love it :-) I'll think about cawpile next time I'll finish a book. I hope your work won't become too interesting and you'll have time for other psychedellic ideas like this one ;-)
Okay I actually freaking LOVE this???? CAWPILE is perfect😂😍 I haven't developed a consistent system to date but this would be perfect!
I am really happy with it so far!
I'm super impressed with this system, I think I will start using it now 😊
Jfc G 😂 I'm finally home from work and watching this and you kill me. This is brilliant.
Finally found a rating system that is logical for me and I will use use it from now on 🤗
Interesting rating system. I will start the implement it for my reviews on my blog :). It is a good system because sometimes the characters are very good but the plot is rubish.
I loved this!! I usually go by feeling, but feel conflicted sometimes with those damn 3 star reads, where I really liked some things, and really didn't like other things.
This is just amazing 😂 I love your system! I definitely need to give it a go!
+Silje P haha it is actually pretty fun to run the books through it! 😂
Book Roast I can imagine 😂 It also really forces you to think about ALL the aspects of the book, which is definitely something I need to do more!
OMG yes the end to Stalking Jack The Ripper was so illogical hahaha
This was GREAT! I really need a better rating scale. A lot of it is how i am feeling about the book and not always about the quality of the books. Your video gave me some things to think on. Thanks!
My pleasure!!
Omg I feel like I've been waiting for this system since forever. I never know how to rate my books because some 5 Star books end up not being as great as other 5 star books? Like I rated one 5 Stars and then I read one that BLOWS MY MIND and I feel so bad to put it next to the other 😂😂 so I might gonna steal CAWPILE which has an amazing name and reminded me of Sharks? 😂😂👌
I’m so trying this when I finish my next book!
Hope it works for you too!
Lol. Sounds like Cow pile, which makes me think of cow poop. I think I’m gonna borrow (re: steal) this. 😬
I love it! I’ve heard you reference it a few times but never looked into it. Well thought out 👌🏻
CAWPILE sounds like a music festival for birds 🤔
YES to 10 stars rating! When will goodreads understand?😭
Loved the infomercial! I will give your rating system a chance, but you just brought a lot of math into my reading world :P Let you know how it goes when I finish this book.
+Donni M haha I know it’s super extra 🙈😂 and I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Wow this system is great and so well planned, but i think i'd be too lazy to actually use this or any similar rating system😂😅
Used this for the first time because I rate on how I feel and this was so easy to use. 👍
Yay that’s awesome! Hope you’ll enjoy it!
I love this idea, might use it sometimes 😍
Most of the time I write my review of the book first and it's the review who gives me the rating which might sound weird but it helps me put together how I feel about the book. I really like your rating system though so I might try it at some point :)
this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you and I'm now going to use to rate my books 😊
I love this!!
I actually love this!! Thank you'
THIS MADE MY AFTERNOON IT WAS HILARIOUS
haha glad you enjoyed it!
Love this!!
This is so helpful! Thank you!
This system is fantastic. I hope you won't mind that I'm gonna adopt it :)
not at all! :)
I really like your rating system because you do take each aspect of any novel into consideration and it makes it really easy to pinpoint which aspects carry the book, and which ones drag it down. I would love to try using this method when I pick up a new book (hopefully I won't be lazy and forget haha). As for how I usually rate books, I made a video about it a couple of months ago, and it would be awesome if you would check it out!
Where do I send my money? :D
+ImmaterialDigression hahaha
My interwebs just reset and I lost my comment and now I am sad. Recreating it means it's even longer. Woops. I am DYING AT THAT INFORMERCIAL. That should be the trailer for your channel. :-D :-D
I should develop a better rating system. I am far too generous, including when I give some books 2 stars instead of the big fat none they deserve. Though I'm lacking the focus and the mathing to get anywhere near the CAWPILE system. But it will be bouncing around the back of my head when I rate the books I need to write reviews for today! I liked that you gave us the break down before reviewing the JtR book, very very cool. My system kind of goes as follows: 5 means I want to scream to the universe that this book must be read (see also: Invictus). 4 means I want to scream to the universe however please see all of these problems that need to be fixed to make me happy (Six of Crows). 3 means I enjoyed it well enough but I'm going to forget I read it a month from now. 2 means I feel guilty giving it a one star. And 1 means Goodreads won't let you give a no star rating, it just looks like you forgot to rate the book. In other words, all copies of this book need to be chucked into a volcano for the sake of mankind. :-D (There have been many 1 star reviews, despite my guilt)
+Bunny omg hahaha your rating system is what I used to do 100% especially the 3 stars that’s so bloody accurate hahah love it!!!
WTH 🤣🙈 I’m dying of laughter
Hahaha I love your infomercial. 😊
I have a very similar System! I rate Characters, writing style, story and magical System/world building. 10 stars rating of course, then I multiply, divide, convert, feeling very Einstein 😂
Sooooooo I might start using CAWPILE! :D My current rating system is, "Idk, I kind of liked it? 3.5 stars? 3 stars? Idk." LoL. Not very accurate or helpful.
I think I ignore logic most of the times because very often in at least YA it is super lacking :D
Love this!! Definitely trying out this system!
Wowww that is genius oh my god I love it😍😍😍❤❤
I love this so much!!
So glad you enjoyed it!
This is the only system I ever use anymore 👌
Funniest one ever! Yes, consult the cats!
Hi G! Just wanted to let you know I linked this video of your CAWPILE review system in my most recent blog post, because I wanted to try out your system for myself. I wanted to give proper credit to one of my favourite booktubers!! Hope you're having a great day :)
My blog is www.bookmarksanddogearsblog.wordpress.com if you were curious.
Hope the system is working for you
Aw I can't WAIT to read that book as well!!
I really like the way it breaks things down! It has finally given structure to my reviews. Thanks so much for it!
I am going to start rating my books with CAWPILE in 2019. 😊 I kinda wish I had in 2018... but better late than never :)
I hope the system works for you!
Book Roast thank you, G 💕
Wow, that seems really complicated, but if you enjoy it, then that is all that matters. I just rate it based on how I feel.
As much as this is funny and CAWPILE makes me want to giggle, this is actually a great idea!
Wow, that's a system!:D I just rate like I'm feeling:D
Random, but what eyeshadow do you use? It looks so amazing
I love this system but I'm lazy and just rate by how I found the plot x
+Tess Raymond Baines it’s totally understandable! X
HAHAHHA the editing spin on hell no xD
I love this, If I can put anything into a system of pie charts, percentages and stuff I‘m all for it. Is it okay if I use your system as well? I think its brilliant and I always struggled with my ratings. I felt like I rated too many books too generous in 2017. Love your videos and I recently found Jade‘s Channel through you and I really like her, too :) Thanks :))
Likewise! I find it satisfying when I have a system for anything and everything :D Absolutely okay for you to use it, go wild at it!! Hope it works for you :) x And yaaas, Jade is such a sweetheart
I love this system
Thank you! x
Are you sure your not a ravenclaw?
Amberlyn B Gryffinclaw! :D
Gryffindor is her house- she is a hero! (Me- Slytherin)
this advert!!!!! xD xD xD I cannot xD
yay for CAWPILE merch!!!! cosy jumpers with #cawpile with a smiling drawing of a highland coo with their groovy fringe cause CAWPILE......sounds like cowpile....get it ? cowpile...piles piles of adorable cows....ok, it sounded funny in my head (perks of being nonnative english speaker - so many things sounds so funny in my head but then I say it out loud and it's like wow nat....you're so lame -_-" )
*crickets chirping* aaaaaaaaannnnyyyyyyyywwwwhhhhhooooooo
+potatoreads hahaha it’s actually hilarious as I made the exact same joke and it just didn’t make the edit but I also giggles at that! Non native speakers unite 😂😂👌🏻
I was thinking the same :)))
this is the funniest shit
