I appreciate every single one of you so much that it hurts. Can you feel all the love? I know I can. Thank You for being amazing!
I don't think I can go to a bookstore and not buy a book....or 5.😅 Even if I'm not in reading mood I always buy books😅
Yeah me too I can collect them like a hamster XD
Daphne Pebb right? You can never have enough books😂
My problem has to do with not being able to focus when I read. I get distracted a lot and I also tend to get sleepy. I also spend too much time on my devices which I'm certain is making it worse but it is so hard to break that habit. What helps me is not reading, but drawing or coloring or crafting. Just doing something where I am not using technology and I am focused on a task but its an active task. If I do this for a few days I a much more likely to pick up a book again.
such a good description of a slump "BUT YOU CAN'T"
haha right? How annoying
I can usually feel mine coming on, can anyone else? My slumps are usually linked to my depression, but I know most of my friends get too busy to read anything.
I can too, I can smell it creeping on haha
This couldn’t have come at a better time!
Hope it's useful and helps the slump banishment haha
I know this may seem weird, but I find what helps me sometimes, is to read out loud. Sometimes that can help me push past whatever is causing my slump, and enable me to get back into my groove. Great video! Thanks for sharing.
My go to cure for slumps are graphic novels. They're so easy and fast and are both a visual and a reading treat. Some fun manga or an action packed graphic novel usually gets me that rush of accomplishment of having finished something. :)
100% agree with you!
These are some really great tips, I also sometimes don't feel like reading and I think we need to learm that we don't have to read all the time. It's also fine to binge a series or watch movies or go out, for me the reading mood comes back all alone like this and I can have some friend or boyfriend time like this :)
Oh absolutely! It's really healthy to have a break, how else will you miss it! :D
OMG yes! I recently listened to The gentleman's guide to vice and virtue on scribd, it was sooo so good!! I'm in love with it and can't wait for the sequel!
Great advice! I usually like to read Non-fiction, however, taking a break and reading Fiction really isn't a waste of time (like I usually feel about fictional reading). Especially since most fiction is based on the author's way of dealing with real life situations.
I love your heartfelt advice!
I’ve been in a kind of physical reading slump all this year. I’ve mainly listened to audiobooks and find it harder to pick up physical books because I get super easily distracted while reading. (I use scribd as well btw, it’s amazing!)
i love scribd so much, I actually swapped from audible a few months back. I do like audible too but I don't need them both just now
This is such a great video! I notice that I read contemporary books to get out of reading slumps as well. Also love your jacket! Super cute.
Thank you, so glad you liked the tips!
I had to come back to this vlog and tell you I went and read The Forgetting after you suggested it here. I read it in 2 days, I loved it. The suspence and urgency was intense.
Ahhh the dreaded slump!!!!! This is a much needed video to combat the SLUMPY!
The audiobook for GGTVAV got me out of a reading slump. Plus who would have thought listening to a young Tom Riddle read to you would be enjoyable! Love your videos x
I'd recommend the Lara Jean series for getting out of a slump. These books are just very easy and fluffy, while still being fun and enjoyable. It has very memorable and distinct characters, and still tackle some heavy subjects, but it's got a light and fluffy atmosphere. They're really easy and quick to read as well. Oh and there's movies now, so you kinda have something to look forward too once you finish it.
A great video! A fun bookslump cure for me was The Shatter Me trilogy. I had just read the Book Thief and just couldn't get over it, it was so beautiful. I then tried picking up Shatter Me after like two months and read the whole trilogy in two days. It's just a fun easy read and I went from a long bookslump to reading three books back to back.
I do really want to get to that series soon!
Book Roast You should, it's really good!
The book date is my best way to get out of a reading slump but I also combine it with going to the bookstore. I like to go into my city centre on the train, go to the big Waterstones and browse and get some new books I’m excited about. Then I sit in the cafe with a big cosy hot drink or settle into one of the reading nooks they have and start a read. If I’m really making a day of it then I go for sushi and read over lunch too!
There’s another lovely bookstore next to my favourite sushi place so I’ll pop in there too.
The magical all nighter has sent me into a mini slump but it also might be my current read but I’m hoping I can schedule a book date on Monday to help me.
X
That all sounds like such a wonderful book date time!!
I also feel a bit burnt after the all nighter, although I'd still do it again for the fun haha but getting out of it after a healthy lill break :)
Great video! Could you do a (YA) graphic novel recommendations video at some point? I've never actually read one but I'd like to try some time :)
I easily fall into reading slumps. This video was amazing. Thank you!
I can never bring myself to DNF books. That might be a huge issue of mine. Lol.
Whenever I read Trial by Fire by Josephine Angelini I’m always in a Hangover Slump. This is totally a thing.
I’m reading Eliza and Her Monsters this month for the Green Ribbon Book Club!
Reading contemporaries is a great tip for a reading slump, but get this: I read two back to back. I literally consumed the first one in two sittings, and it took me two weeks to finish the second one. So I think mixing up genres, if you're the kind of person that likes a variety of books, and book formats is the best way to go, that way you're giving each book more of a fair chance.
I have just defeated a reading slump🤗 but it's going to be good to know for next time. You had a lot of helpful advice😍👍
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your speed of uploading!!! And thanks for uploading everyday, coz my day doesn't pass without listening to your sweet voice😍😍😍... I look forward to a fresh start after enjoying your lovely videos!!!❤❤❤👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Love you, G...
Thank you so much, that's so wonderful to hear!!
I needed this so badly. Thank you
Consuming a story in a different format is a fabulous tip. It's so so helpful.
So glad you found it useful!
Comics/graphic novels work well for me. I think it's the addition of the artwork that makes it more engaging. G, I've been meaning to suggest this to you, but I think you would love the comic I Hate Fairyland. You'd probably enjoy the humor. Oh my, I hope you don't try it and hate it! I always feel nervous about giving recommendations :)
And for those who maybe wanna stay in the same universe and don't mind things getting repetitive: FANFICTION. This is where there will be the biggest chances of finding what you literally wanna read (especially if the fic is for a bigger fandom). It's fairly easy to find, you can read it then and there, you can have the same trope over and over again and the lenght may vary too. You want a short fanfic? No problem, here's a one-shot. You want a long one? Here's a 20 chapter fic (of course, there are also those times where the fanfiction is the reason of you 6 year book reading slump - idk, just saying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
I still haven't read any fanfiction, but am really intrigued to try!
I LOVE YOU SOO MUCH OMG!! I’m a gryffindoor too😍😍❤️❤️❤️🧙🏻♀️⚡️⚡️❤️❤️💋💋
Yay Gryffindor!
The DUFF is a book that got me out of my slump, its not the best book ever, but it's just one of those that's easy to read and has a lot of relatable threads throughout! Also, Scribd is my jam, it's what I always thought audible should have been, well worth the money for the amount of audiobooks and ebooks it has
Reading NA romance almost ALWAYS works for getting me out of a reading slump, because I primarily read fantasy so it's soooo different and "light". Otherwise, booktube definitely helps renew my energy and enjoyment for reading when I'm feeling slumpy, I'll be like "wow that sounds really good!" and if I actually pick it up and it sticks then viola! which speaking of, I was feeling slumpy and this video reminded me of how much I want to read Dark Matter haha
Definitely agree with the first tip, Don't read if you don't feel like reading lol. I feel like it's so hard for people to follow this though
I really do want to give Scribd a try. The fact that you pay a flat rate monthly for audiobooks is what gets me interested, because I hate paying for books I can't KEEP. That's what libraries are for! But my library is starting to not be cool with newer books, especially audiobooks. Grr.
Oh, I am so happy you including The Forgetting in this video. I was just telling AJ how much I loved that book. I haven't read the sequel yet, but I'm really looking forward to it. I found it so original and fresh, and I was so perplexed that you didn't like it. :-)
My go-to for reading slumps is kind of controversial, because seriously NO ONE that I have bonded with on Booktube likes her books. NO ONE. But my fluffy comfort reads are Rainbow Rowell books. Fangirl, Carry On, Eleanor and Park. No one loves these books! Sad face! But it's okay, because they make me happy, and if I feel slumpy, I slap the audiobook of one of them on.
These were really great tips, I love them all and agree 100%.
So, slumps, normal parts of life where you need to spice up life.
I'd say: Christie Stratos' books would work well, especially the Dark Victoriana Collection. They are short, accessible, and quick (partly because they are suspence). I recommend starting with the second one (it's a companion series), which was called Locke and Keye, but got a title change recently to Brotherhood of Secrets. It's dark, but I couldn't stop reading until I finished, and that barely ever happens to me.
Suspense can work wonders to get into reading :D
That's very true, anything that pushes you to turn the page is so useful!
This helps 😂 I am currently in a reading slump.. for months now. Probably because I spend the month before non-stop reading books after books 😂 I have lots of new books that I bought and looking forward to reading.. but my gosh I can't. I'm forcing myself to read now... I tried reading ond of the new book .. and stopped after 3 pages 😂 l want to read but I can't. I'm looking forward to trying scribd. Maybe it'll help. I feel bad that my books are just sitting on the shelves. The last advice does not really work for me. I mean the part where I go to bookstore and not buy anything. Even in slump.. I cant stop buying them 😂
I know it's okay to not read. But I want to read 😂 because reading takes me to a whole different world with so many possibilities. I kinda miss those.. for now, I'll try to just chill and let it be. Hopefully I can get out of the slump soon.
Great video 😁
It's actually pretty weird but I find it so easy not to buy books when in the bookstore haha but I do take a lot of photos so I can revisit the book and think if I really still want it :D
Hope you get out of the slump soon x
@@BookRoast that's soo nice. When I'm in a bookstore and didnt buy a book. I took a picture of those that intrigue me... and then it haunts me until I bought them 😂 yeah, thank you 😄 I hope I get out of the slump soon as well.. I have wayy too many books to read, ready for anytime I'm ready
A book burn out hahaha
I'm the early notification squad but I watched this one late 😢 but anyhoo! Thank you so much for this video, G! I am experiencing the reading slump (like rn!) these couple of days, and yes, it's horrible 😭 Your contemporary genre recommendations are all in my tbr list (except Everything, Everything - bcs I already read that last year 😂; and Giant Days - bcs I didn't buy that one yet, and will probably do 😍) Never have I ever change my reading medium but definitely will try audiobooks this time. Thanks for the link. Ohhhh, and my my my, your Golden Snitch necklace is so pretty! 😍💕 Have a great day G ❤
Aw still early!!
the way i get out of a slump is by rereading one of my favorite books or takea few days off just so i can get back into reading.
Welcome to Night Vale is my go to book
What do you think of 'Turtles all the way down' from John Green?
I'm a pretty picky reader; I don't like dystopians, straight up romance, fantastical fantasies (i.e.Court of Thorns and Roses, Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings etc.), historical fiction and not that into sci-fi fiction either. I like books set in modern times, if it has magic, vampires, werewolves etc then set in a modern alternative universe.
I just finished the Outlander series and not sure what to read next. I did read the The Hazel Wood and was seriously disappointed. What do you guys recommend? Does not have to be like the series I’m up for anything.
SweetheartSeer I have only read his Sandman comics. None of his books. I have thought about reading some of his books but wasn’t sure about where to start.
I loved this video
I see Ravenclaws leading to win the house cup :P
