  • Here's my tips for cleaning house while working a Full Time 9-5 job. And also several methods to use to make cleaning house fun. You asked for it and I am telling you how I do it.
Don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't have it all: family, working, working for God, and doing hobbies. Don't let others set your boundaries or limit what you can do. Take care of the most important things and it'll all shake out from there.
Welcome and enjoy and we'd love to have you stick around and subscribe. Retirement coming soon and things are going to get a lot more interesting. :-) Some of us are really excited too.
My job is really more like *7:30 to 4 but that sounds funky and less impressive than *9-5*, lol!

At 62, I no longer stress about cleaning the house. I go at my own pace, one day I do one or two things and the next day I move on to the next task. Step by step, little by little.😊

One of the best things it took me years to learn that has helped me keep my house cleaner is that "you can't organize clutter". Once I got that and decluttered my house, it made everything a lot easier. I started getting rid of things I don't need, don't use, don't like, don't fit, etc. You get the drift. For example, the average person only wears 20% of the clothes they own. Think about that. I also follow folks on RUclips like The Minimalist Mom. She has lots of good tips on decluttering, organizing, and cleaning. Life changing.

Totally agree with this! Cleaning a decluttered room is a breeze compared to having to shift around piles of junk just to vacuum and move around lots of bric o brac in order to dust. I started to declutter about 2 years ago - my clutter free zones stay neat and looking nice. The goal is to have the entire house clutter free.

Hello! I’m new here, from NC. I’m stuck working full-time until March ‘27. I’m struggling a lot with being trapped for so many hours a week while the world passes me by. I have a home to care for, grandchildren to love, a husband, dog, friends…all out of reach for so much of my life. It’s depressing! Anyway, I’m glad to find your channel. It’s so relatable! Blessings to you and George!!

Sonya- you can find some really affordable cruises. I retired 5 years ago and went to Europe for a 2 week vacation. The whole thing cost me over 12k for just myself. My best friend paid for my business class airfare 😊. I don’t think another trip like that will be coming up anytime in the near future. BUT- 2 years ago we went on a cruise to Hawaii and Polynesia for 19 days and it cost about the same for the two of us than my retirement vacation to Europe (the cost for my share). So treat yourself and look into cruising. You and George deserve it!!!

I think I may have been the one who asked about cleaning. With the holidays coming up, a full schedule already, and having the home base for all of the holidays, I’m exhausted from the extras! I loved Flylady, but I, too, had trouble keeping up with the zones and the extras. Thank you for sharing your housecleaning games! I love that! No w that’s a real challenge. I just love how the dear live in your yard . They feel comfortable and safe there . Maybe one day George will surprise you and take you on a nice trip somewhere. Hi Sonya, I'm 54 & use to fret about keeping the house spotless. I work 5 days as well, as my 2 boys have gotten bigger & older, my partner works 5 days as well, I just don't care as much anymore. I'm too exhausted on my days off, so I just do what I can during the week. Laundry & vacuming, bathrooms 1 x a week is a chore but if I don't do it nobody else will do it.😞😞, I'm so happy for you in your future retirement. I still have 8 years left. As you stated 5 day work weeks are just too much & I fully agree. If only we lived in Europe with fiesta's & 6 weeks of vacations a year!! We make sure we pick up after ourselves and each night we reset the kitchen make sure everything is clean. The dishes are done. Table is cleaned off in the morning I make sure the bed made. I do the laundry twice a week, but I definitely agree work gets in the way of life.

  • @KimmieCat70
    @KimmieCat70 5 месяцев назад +1

I decluttered a lot of stuff. I don't have a lot of knick knacks to dust. When I do a load of laundry I try to wash, dry, and put away vs. letting it sit around when it comes out of the dryer. I work weekends now. When I used to work 5 days a week I would clean the whole house at one time. I would try to do it on Thursday evening so I had the weekend to enjoy. Also, throw a load of laundry in the washer and do some cleaning while it's washing. By the time you're done, then it's time to throw the clothes in the dryer.

When i was still raising my kids, and i was working 50 hours a week, all housework was done on Friday nights. Got quick take out for dinner. Everyone chipped in and while you look forward to Friday nights,, nothing beat waking up on Saturday morning knowing the weekend was completely free. Laundry was done mostly during the week. Started a load in the washer in the morning then in the dryer when we got home. And of course there were times where the housework got skipped for a week and we were fine with that. 😊

You are going to love, love, love retirement! I'm 10 years older than you, but the first thing I did when I retired was get rid of clutter. I could clean and clean but it still looked messy with a lot of stuff laying around. Also, as you age that stuff on the floor can be a hazard. I try to start the week on Monday by doing laundry, changing sheets, vacuuming, dusting and deep cleaning the bathrooms. The rest of the week we just pick up after ourselves and enjoy the retirement life!

I’m like you in diving in to a cleaning project. I had forgotten about the flylady! Thanks for reminding me…. I need to look for a booklet i downloaded from her website about a decade ago. The most useful thing I learned from her was to spend a certain amount of time (timed) in a room cleaning and then when timer went off take. Step back and tackle something else for a timed period of time. It was amazing because I got a lot accomplished without dwelling and stalling with each project.

Will have to try this connect the dots idea. When I am really not “up” for a thorough cleaning I count how many things I have put away or each dish washed or whatever. I will do……20 is the deal I make with myself and that goes pretty well and usually I realize there are only 27 things that needed touching. So I go ahead and finish but if I don’t it is 20 items cleaner than it was.

First, let me tell you, I just love you! You’re personality and the biggest thing is you’re real! You don’t go on script so to speak. Please keep it up. I mean, have a topic but some influencers on this medium have everything all scripted out. You go with the flow and I like that style , it keeps me watching. I was rather forced into retirement due to an injury. I wasn’t ready, I still want to be back in the classroom. I was a kindergarten teacher and I miss my kids. My children are grown and my husband is still working. We are on the last step of our 50s and we are slowing down. But I guess I just need to come up with some kind of routine and some kind of structure like I used to run my classroom. I’m trying, but I’m not used to being home and I’m not one to sit around and watch TV. So I’ve started, reading a lot well actually listening to audiobooks as I do things. I came across a book called Swedish death cleaning. My son thinks it’s rather morbid but it’s where you’re still able to get around and get rid of things in your house that nobody really wants after you pass away. I have made quite a mess here, but I am going through things and someone suggested that I do a side hustle and sell some of these clothes and stuff that I would use for teaching. Anyway, I don’t wanna go on and on. I just wanted to tell you, I really love you and keep up with the work that you do on the channel. I know it’s not easy, but you’re very inspiring. Take care. God bless you and your journey.

We do small loads of laundry throughout the week rather than save it up for large loads which I dread doing. Smaller loads are quick to fold and easy to put away. Bath towels are all white in every bathroom and they get washed on Fridays. Sheets get washed on Saturdays. Small loads of clothes throughout the week and I toss the dish towels in a couple of times a week. We also do dishes after every meal and run the dishwasher nightly and empty/put away every morning. Refrigerator vegetable bins are gone through each week before I go to the store and buy fresh vegetables.

@lesshustlemorecoffee What I'm trying to say is don't be so hard on yourself. You're trying to be the perfect all in one person. The people who work and have the perfectly clean homes have maids that come in to do it. But I'm glad to hear that he does help. You've got a lot on your plate. Plus you have a bit of a drive back and forth to work. Don't be hard on yourself and have a cocktail. By the way, you do a fantastic job on your hair. Not many can do that, I think you look great.

    1) Declutter - if you don't use it, get rid of it.
    2) Brush the dogs regularly - it really cuts down on the fur floating around the house.
    3) Put minimal stuff on flat surfaces. I find that my side of the bedroom is uncluttered and easy to dust. My husband has more stuff sitting on his dresser and nightstand - I avoid dusting over there because moving all that stuff around takes 10 times longer than it otherwise would. His stuff is arranged neatly - there is just too much of it.
    4) Wipe down the dining table and counter tops every day. It makes the whole kitchen look so much cleaner.
    5) O'Cedar spin mop. This thing works like a champ. Once a week I vacuum all of my tiled floors and then go from kitchen to bathroom to bathroom mopping all the floors. You can even use it to mop your shower and tubs clean.

Get your passports - it takes a while for the government to mail it to you and realize that you will have to send an official birth certificate (not a copy) with your application. You will get it back once processing is complete but it takes a while. We took a western Caribbean cruise and had a blast. You basically board the ship and engage in the activities that you want to engage in. When you port, you can just stay in the immediate area and see the sites or you can book an excursion. You can be as active or as inactive as you want to be. You will have all your meals prepared for you and your room cleaned/beds made daily. We got the beverage package with our tickets and took full advantage of the on ship bars. You also never know when a travel opportunity might come up through your church, family or friend group.
