Since I retired I have been traveling with a tour bus, exercising twice a week, going to the library three times a week, going to our Artisan Village shows and events, having lunch with my friends etc... I 'am never bored. I enjoy my life. Hope you get over your doldrums soon. It is too bad you have been sick since you retired. Take care.❤
I live in Maine. .what you are experiencing as the "Gloomies" is Seasonal Affective Disorder. I learned to replace all my light bulbs with Daylight lightbulbs. It's a lack of daylight. It affects your levels of certain hormones and minerals, like Serotonin, our brains happy drug. I'm also a crafter and daylight light bulbs in your fixtures, also help see colors and Textures better! So get some daylight light bulbs take some Vitamin D, and that will help!
Great Vlog! I live in AZ where there is sunshine 364 days, leaving one day for a rain day..not kidding. I sometimes wish for gloomy days but you always want what you can’t have. Thank you for your vlogs. :)
I retired at the end of last year and I’ve also been sick almost the whole time. I even managed to get my dog sick (I’d never heard of such a thing but both the vet tech and my nurse friend said so!) This morning I met three other ladies and we walked for an hour in a nearby State Park. That felt awesome. I’ve done lots of puzzles, and been to the library in addition to lots of books on my iPad. I also made dinner and dessert for a couple at church. I decided to see if I could pick up crochet again, and started with a dishcloth, lol. I’ve made lots of bread, which I enjoy. And I’ve slept. A lot. The lack of stress is incredible and I’m getting used to it. Retirement is going to be very good.
You’ve been very productive! That’s great! Do you think your body is recovering from stress from working? Seems like when we finally relax is when our body lets us down.
Another great topic Sonya. I totally get the winter blues, especially living in Seattle, WA. Have my whole life living here. Like you said, enjoy the little things that bring you joy. It's been tough recently since loosing our beloved dog Pinto in October & I was in a major funk!! Happy to report we've adopted a new addition to our household. Kiwi is such a sweet puppy & brings me such joy & love & has got me to do things I enjoy & haven't for awhile. Keep praying & being blessed will help us get out of the blues at this time of year. Love & blessings to you your family🙏🙏💖💖💐💐🥰🥰
Aww congrats about Kiwi. I know the sadness of losing pets. It hurts. The new ones bring joy to fill the void and they aren’t replacements as we always remember the personalities of each beloved pet.
I’m so glad! I love to make people laugh although I’ve never thought of myself as one that does. But the more I’m in front of the camera the more comfortable I am, lol.
Ready for spring!!! I’ve even got a bit more winter here about 300mi straight north of you… but I’m over it pretty much right after the holidays every year! Esp this year! Been below zero here and lots of days with highs in single digits to 20s. We had an 8” snow and a couple 3-4” ones. Ughhh I’m hoping for an early spring!!! The darker shorter winter days really affect my state of mind. Add to that I keep my house at 68 degrees when 72 would be much preferred. In the summer I keep it at 76 which is much more comfortable! Feel more like doing stuff in lighter clothes and not being a bit cold! The cloudy days of January are indeed a major pain in the brain! Lol. Maddie looks for the sunny places - in both rooms you showed her!! Smart dog! 😊 The last time I had the flu was early April 2011.. it seemed similar to yours now with the sinuses taking forever to clear out! After 6 weeks they were draining into my throat which got sore just from that so went back fearing it was strep or something bad. My doctor gave me another round of antibiotics because he said when the sinuses stay full a long time you can get a secondary infection easily… so the antibiotic helps prevent that from happening. They don’t do much otherwise to clear out sinuses .. they either help stop an infection in progress or prevent a secondary one… but the rest takes time unfortunately. Be glad you aren’t working at least… that’s a double miserable time when something hangs on! I overcome glum days now that I’m retired by doing something I enjoy and haven’t done for awhile to change things up! I don’t care if it’s silly or non-productive as long as I enjoy it! Sometimes I call a relative or friend that doesn’t live around me and have a nice long chat! Find out what they’ve been up to and share the same with them about me. Get to laughing about old times or a funny story etc. In this first year of retirement you’ll find a good balance between routine and new. Activity, productivity, and relaxation! I saw the sun in your videos! That always helps and February will be better in that department than January! Before we know it March will be here…. then we can worry about bad storms again! And bugs! 😱😱
Yes, I’m already praying for protection from the storms! I don’t like them when we travel. We will be doing some traveling in spring. Feeling all better now. Thank goodness! Warmer days are coming this week! You probably getting a warm up too!
One of the channels I follow, Welcome To My Curls, advocates for something called a Happy Light, which looks like a makeup mirror. She sits in front of it a few minutes each morning. You would like her. She’s also a dog mom.
Love your videos. You did make me smile and cheer my day 😅, thank you for tha face mask. You are not the only one. Me too when days are coold or raining, i don't do anything too. Just be in the sofa and sleep or cellular. You sound better, take care and again thank you for the video 🥰🥰🥰🤗🤗🤗
Yes it is normal. I have had good days and not so good days with getting things done. I don't like going out because of the ugly out in the world and so many illnesses going around. I don't want to get sick - hope you are 100% before long. 2 years for me - I don't stress about it any more - if it gets done it does if it doesn't get done it doesn't.
Since I’ve retired I have found there aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done! Do you do anything creative crafting-wise? Have you ever tried knitting, crocheting, cross stitching or quilting? Even taking a short walk outside can help with your mood. You are so lucky to have your mom still with you - she is so pretty! Take care!
I enjoy reading and computer games and doing the vlog, working puzzles. I might have liked sewing, knitting, and crocheting if I’d learned it a while back. I don’t have the desire to do that now. I think o have too many hobbies lol!
My mom passed away at 94 in 2017, so I remember well helping with mom’s needs. Fortunately my brother and sister helped with her care. It’s definitely a lot with grocery shopping, doctor appointments, taking her out for retail therapy, etc. I must say I miss her so much, but I’m so happy we were able to help her when she needed it. She also had a relationship with Jesus and loved him, so it’s comforting knowing she’s with Him. 💞Seeing your mom with the walker brought back memories, my mom wouldn’t go anywhere without hers. I’m in Southern California and the coldest it has been in my area is low 30’s at night. I enjoy the snow from a distance with the view of our local mountains. 🏔️ Take care and stay warm, loving your retirement vlogs, my last day at my job is February 28th! 😊
Yes the music is good to clear the blues. I usually put on jazz in the house from RUclips as it comes with a pretty scene. Warm weather coming! Hope you are feeling better!
Healing prayers to my new found friend. Sorry you are under the weather. I hope your grandson gets better quickly. I enjoyed our time together today. When I feel blue talking with my daughters, always seems to pick me up
Love your new shirts and tote bag. Ok..on those gloomy days when your half sick and not yourself this honestly means that your body is tellng you that you need extra rest and sleep. I take advantage of those days and appreciate that I can lay down and rest and you should too. Believe me everything on that list will still be there when you are feeling better. Hang in there spring is on the way and you will be so busy you'll wish you had some down time. Love you channel. God bless you both
You need to not beat yourself up. your not feeling well! Your doing great for someone that’s been sick for quite some time. I totally enjoy you and George’s videos. I don’t do TV so ….. cheer up dear !💕🌷🌼🌹🌸
Yep spring is coming, i hope you feel better😢 ive been eating onions, garlic peppers and emergency vitamin c, working sooo far. Yep im feeling down to, two of my daughters want to try a apartment life with their boyfriends. I miss them so much.
Hey Sonya. If you purchased computer at Best Buy then you can purchase Geek Squad coverage for setup and support too. You can inquire in store as they have different Tiers of service. Thx for sharing. Sending prayers you feel better soon❤
I think everyone has the times where they don’t want to do anything. Seasonal depression is a real thing . Actually call me weird but I like winter over summer. Autumn is my favorite season . Maddy is so darn cute. Spring will be here before you know it .
I don’t like the heat of summer but I like sandals and no coat. I’m mostly inside. Except for walking the dogs. I want to like winter but it’s not letting me lol! I’m always sick.
I’m so tired of winter! Tomorrow we’re supposed to have highs in the mid 60’s and Monday it’s supposed to be around 70°F! It’s overcast and dreary here today. I’m so sad but I’m trying to pull myself up out of it.
Oh yeah, every winter I get the Gloomies. Gloomy, gray weather does bring me down. Some days and I just accept it and it is okay. Other days I do push myself and get things done. It is a mind set. I try to give myself little motivational talks. 😊🌷 I love my teas! I like coffee but I am a hot tea gal. I do jigsaw puzzles all year long but really enjoy puzzling on a gloomy day. It helps lift my mood. Tip: I use zippered make up bags to contain amall irems together so they don't go to the bottom of my handbag. One has pens, small notebook, wet wipes, mini magnifying glass. Another little bag has my make-up mirror, hand sanitizer, hand cream, Kleenex packet, eyeglasses cleaning cloth. Things like that. 😃
Thanks for sharing! Please consider that you are suffering from burn out, you had a stressful road with work until your last day, during the holidays no less, on top of elder care, that takes a toll.
