I remember a few weeks ago you mentioned to me you had spent time in Appleton. It is such a small world, my husband and his daughter lived there for a while. I lived all of my life in Illinois, many years in Chicago western suburbs until 2022 when I moved to Southwest WI and married my husband. I love living here! Very much in the country here, near cows, horses, Amish, corn, cheese, etc...., lol. I grew up in a small central Illinois town, so it wasn't total culture shock for me;) I stopped working in 2022 and for the first time in my life became a housewife. I worked as a Special Education teacher. I raised a son alone, who is now 27, after divorcing from my first husband. You will love retirement! I don't really miss working, enjoy being able to love on my new home which I love and take care of things at home for hubby and I. His daughter and son-in-law live with us. However, we have our own living spaces. It works out well. And we have two sweet dogs in the house. Walter, a Boston Terrier, and Sweetpea, a Shetland Sheepdog. I feel Maddie and Sweetpea would be good friends:) Love your vlogs, often watch old ones when I am working around the house:) Hope your day is going well! Take care!

My job is keeping me busy these days as I countdown to February when I retire. Following your journey is fun and I’m there with you, making plans for 2025. Some people say they get bored in retirement, but I’m glad when I find others like you who have plans, and do not intend on sitting around being bored. I know I certainly don’t. I’m tied to a desk all day and can’t wait to get out and do things I’m too exhausted to do after work.

Lovely video, thanks for sharing? Yes, why do we like watching videos of others‘ normal lives?! 😂 I don’t know, makes me feel like I’m normal too? Never enough time to finish the to-do list, always have a carry over of items it seems. Also counting down to retirement & looking forward to more thoughts on that. 11 months, maybe 10, we‘ll see. I am soooo ready! I think I’d just get a new washer at this point, unless it really is the pipes. Hope that is all worked out by the time you read this, know the video was a couple weeks ago. Maybe you‘re even traveling now, drive safely, Happy travels & Happy Thanksgiving!

I just hope he doesn’t get bored and would want to work part time. He is a worker bee. Seems like the washers and dryers go out sooner than later these days. You made a statement in the beginning of the video about feeling like you had little to nothing to do and that you weren't used to that feeling. After working most of your life and then retiring, that feeling will be challenging. I told my mom about three months after I retired that I couldn't shake this feeling of 'purpose' that I've had all of my working life. I had a set schedule, people depended on me, and my days, monday through Friday, were scheduled down to the minute. Now, I find myself in a new, and exciting season of being retired. Yes, this season can and will be wonderful. But, at first, it was kind of a shock to my system, emotionally. I asked mymelf questions like, "Who is depending on me now"..."What's my purpose?" Well, at six motnhs retired, I believe I've navigated this new wave and the waters, emotionally, are much calmer. I wake up and enjoy my devotion and coffee in my pajamas. I've journaled almost daily and discovered new things that give purpose to my life. My parents, who are 86 and 89 depend somewhat on me. I also depend on myself, and God first, to be purposeful with my own health and happiness. I'm excited for you, Sonya, and the amazing content you will bring to your new season of retirement! GOD BLESS YOU!

When it rains it pours. It’s always something. I think it’s time for a new washer. However if it is the pipes maybe you need a plumber to check that out first . Do you only have one TV. .I don’t watch TV very much . Hope you have a good trip to Texas and enjoy your family. It’s November 23 as I watch this. So your on the home stretch to retirement now . I am so sorry to hear the washer is not working. Probably time to bite the bullet and get a new washer. The rain is beautiful. PA hadn’t had any measurable rain for over 50 days and was on burn ban and water saving (no watering plants or washing cars). We finally got rain / snow yesterday but the water table is still low. I had the same issue with mobile check deposit. Finally went to bank and it was because of the amount. Lesson learned. Multi vitamins. Most multi vitamins are useless. Contain filler and are of low quality. Be sure to buy good quality vitamins and read up on when to take them in combination with other vitamins, food and time of day. Insurance when retiring is such a pain. I went with AARP which used United Health Care (UHC). COBRA is very expensive. And do not advise going with Medicare Advantage. The hardest part was Part D prescriptions. At one point it felt like it would have been easier to keep working. 😊. Have a good week. Remember all the things God has blessed you with. Look forward to next weeks VLOG

Sonja I sometimes feel I know a world that at one time was less complex, where depositing checks and repairs when appliance broke down were so very different I think knowing this and now living with chaos as I try to make sense of it all is just one step towards madness should I agree to join this world where this is the new normal.

We don’t have a culture of working from home unless bad weather, or maybe some hours to avoid high traffic times or times of adversity (parent sick, etc.). I’m also there to watch during payroll, and be a reference point. It’s ok I’m getting a few things done there to help out, when not I just keep myself busy doing other things.
