  • In August of 2019 we spent nine action-packed days fishing and exploring Ketchikan, Alaska and this video is one epic highlight of that trip.
While most come to Ketchikan via cruise ship through the inside passage we opted to fly into the airport via Alaska Airlines so we could spend more time in this specific location. From the airport, it's easy to catch the ferry across to the main island and the downtown area. Our primary mission was to fish and that we did boating limits of Halibut and Rockfish every single day. We also caught crab in the pots we set, Salmon and Dolly Varden on the fly rods and couple monster Ling Cod! Of course, we ate everything we caught including a sea cucumber! With the fishing being so good we had ample time to explore the island and needless to say we will be back...in 11 months and 3 weeks to be exact, the flights are already booked :)
A huge thank you to my high school buddy Tony and his girlfriend D for the hospitality and playing tour guide. D was raised in Ketchikan and Tony has lived in Ketchikan for going on eight years now. The two of them know everything about the island and more importantly the waters and fish off the island. Check out Tony's IG: / thealaskancheesehead
As you will see the trip started off with a bang fishing wise and the action never slowed down. We did it all from blacktail deer hunting, tide pooling, hiking, fly fishing and all the other usual touristy stuff like zip lining, totem park, and the bearing sea crab tour. We even ended up taking a mail plane over the Misty Fjords and a glacier to a remote village near the Canadian border. Note to self don't miss a turn going through a mountain pass in the Tongass.... you will have to go over and things will get sketchy lol
