  • In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

      +mark lorden there are multiple cameras and one is placed to shoot the stage, one is placed to shoot the audience etc. etc.
      Director or editor is responsible for choosing which shot will be shown at specific timing. Therefore a Director or an editor is to blame.

    • @ReddooryogaSH

      Watching it, it seems pretty clear that it's intentionally edited to prevent you from following along in the way that the audience could, though I can't think of any reason why they would have wanted to do that.

    imagine if we all learned from day one from both home and school that our minds are being run your 2 types of thinking, and then how we become affected by it and learned tools to control the negative debilitating effects while learning how to find positive progressive ones which support, and validate our confidence instead of confirming fears and self doubt
    the masses are ignorant to their own minds and suffer in every aspect from it either for life or until they see a therapist who gifts them with tools for coping

    Difficult/annoying to watch because of the camera work; zooming all over the place, not letting you adequately see the visuals the speaker was using, spending as much--if not more--time filming the audience as the speaker. I ended up not watching it all.

    • @gaburearu
      @gaburearu 7 лет назад +5

      The visuals were more for the audience than the viewer... the point of the speech is still quite clear, and being an outside observer of a live social experiment only further enforces the point he's making.

    I have noticed that a majority of the comments regarding this demonstration is nothing but empty rhetoric. I using my "conscious" mind and the truth of the matter is that almost every person repeated the obvious observation about the camera "man" and how he was a little bit "off". Can anyone tell me a different perception?

    • @irical100
      @irical100 8 лет назад

      +Alicia Smith I’ll give it my take, A/V mishaps not withstanding: The demonstration in regard to social perceptions and constructs shows how racism and the stereotypes which build from it started from a false and fear-based perception of African people and culture which became institutional from the first Africans brought here in slavery. Since that time, since multi-faceted justice has never been worked out for those who have all along been victimized, the trigger in the minds of white folks by and large who know this when seeing a black person’s face (I’m not talking about Barrack Obama) is one of two automated responses: Guilt or denial & loathing, both are fear factors. Both are equally counter to the progress of racial justice. The illusion-suggestion of racial preference/heirarchy is subtley (and grossly) re-enforced in perpetuity by the power of media and therefore it is a subliminal anchor which becomes practically universal in “popular opinion”. and drives the dehabilitating factors which most black folks have aways faced in this country
      As the demonstration showed, extremely hard to overcome illusions in individuals and we might as well put it in the context of illusions as contagions in whole societies to better understand how and why we as a society function the way we do. Stagnatingly poorly.

Just like yesterday I was talking to some broad online, I said they were being pessimistic they said 'No I'm just being realistic' & replied that everyone is realistic in their own head according to them (which of course flew right over their head, but it's true we never know exactly how flawed our perceptions/beliefs are, even if we try to be as unbiased/ matter of fact/ rational as possible) But all part of the fun & journey of a brief existence I suppose

    Maybe the camera man (editor) was acting on purpose. Maybe he really understood Mlodinow, or was in cahoots with him. He was constantly taking us out of context, or of the context.
    Kind of mirroring Leonard's talk.
    Clever intellectual joke if that is the case. My unconscious mind was making itself crash with the weight of its own wrong guesses.
    In other more mundane words: I wanted to kill
    Clever indeed

    I participated in neuro feedback experiments for psychology grad students when I studied at university in 1977. I am disappointed to see that research on the brain snd mind has not made the same progress over time as the medical field. There is and has been societal imbalance in investing in research and treatment for mental and physical illnesses.

    Ironic that this video was about psychology and visuals yet we are not allowed to visualize the examples he is using to show us what he means. The editor of the filming is high perhaps? :-O
