This might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually like the extra Adywan shots with the Falcon speeding by while simultaneously firing back at the TIEs, rather than moving like a slow duck in the official cuts. It really compliments the perilous and exciting feel of this scene.
Agree completely. The whole scene was much more dynamic and made far more sense. I especially loved the "exterior" shots that showed the Falcon's quad lasers firing back. In the original, you only see that once or twice, barely.
mngentry it doesn't make sense to me because it makes it seem like the distance between Yavin 4 and the Death Star is quite large when it doesn't appear that way in the film
@Swag_ Bag Not sure what you mean. The Death Star was in the Alderaan system. Yavin 4 is in another star system. It didn't appear near Yavin until later.
You would think that w/all the money Lucasfilm has, they would've added these things in the Special Edition back then. Instead they added a really bad CG Jabba & Mos Eisley spaceport scene that just wasn't all that good.
First; when Tarkin asked Vader if they got away, the Sith Lord said that, and I quote, "They have just made the jump into *hyperspace* ". And Rogue One makes it clear that the Death Star is capable of making the jump to lightspeed (fun fact: did you know that the Death Star actually has two or three hyperdrives in order to properly jump the massive station into hyperspace?)! Secondly; in terms of the quality of the animation in the Special Editions, at the time that's what would have been considered the most advanced form of animation (just look at the early days of Pixar)! Plus, George was/is a pioneer of the filmmaking industry. That's why the OT was as popular as it was; with each passing film, techniques and for the Visual Effects got better and better. It's because of both the Originals and the Prequels that we have the advanced visual effects of today!
These cuts add so much more to the movie...Lucas is so worried about adding rocks in front of R2 when he hides instead of adding hyperspace when leia and han are talking on the falcon...this guy has more vision than Lucas did for the special edition
I think what people don't realize is that DeEd is made to undo all the stuff George did after the fact, the true theatrical release movie with Better quality. Adywans is basically the upgrade that George should have done. DeEd is made to stay true to the original, Adywan is made to be the best versions of the films we love. I personally love both, and I think it just depends on what you want out of the film. The best, or the true film.
I tend to agree. Adywan made a few mistakes I think with ANH:R but he is planning to redo it and fix the few things I din't like. I think it's great to have both versions.
TerranGuy93 I agree. Once Disney gets the distribution rites back it would be nice if they released the original version with the revised edition. That probably won't happen
I would be shocked if Disney doesn't release a 4k restoration of the original for the 50th anniversary, especially if they do it Blade Runner style. A set with a bonus disc featuring the Revisited edition and some features on fan edits would be awesome, if unlikely.
That moment when you finally realize you spent decades not noticing that the big fancy studio forgot to add half of the Falcon's blaster bolts in this scene.
Adywan's version is hands down the best fan cut of the film I've ever seen. I love the added shots not only in this sequence but especially in the Battle of Yavin with the extended Tie Fighter battle.
Remember Vader's exchange with Tarkin: Tarkin: Are they away? Vader: They just made the jump into HYPERSPACE. Tarkin: You're sure the homing beacon is secure aboard their vessel? I'm taking an awful risk, Vader. This had better work. Don't you think It makes sense to show the Falcon in Hyperspace the next time we have a scene which takes place on board?
Pretty awesome that Adywan took the time to fix the continuity issue at 2:18 and placed the falcon interior behind R2. Though I doubt anyone would have ever noticed the background behind R2 was from a scene inside the Death Star unless we had been told by the film makers. While I'll always prefer the original, I do think Adywan's is far superior to the special editions and definitely a worthy version.
I LOVE how Adywan Revisited made an effect when the Falcon is moving in space during the TIE Fighter attack, also added CGI shots and CGI explosions that were made from the prequel era trilogy, added a new shot of the Falcon exploring on Hyperspace, including in all scenes showing the light speed background and the glow effects! I also love when he added a new Digital shot of the Falcon jumping out of Hyperspace and the shots of Battle of Yavin’s arrival were played in a different sequence! And last but not least is when he found an effect with the Falcon and added a shadow effect! I LOVE YOU ADYWAN REVISITED!!! 😃😁
This scene is high up there as one of the best updates in Adywan’s version, but my favorite is correcting the lightsaber when Luke is training with the sphere droid. The original shots bug me so much, it’s actually soothing to watch them corrected.
Excellent! Cannot fault it. And I’m stunned to only just realise, after almost 45 years, that there were no Falcon laser blasts in the exterior sequences and no hyperspace effects in the cockpit. Bravo and thanks!
The only problem I had with the Adywan version, is that it seems like the tie fighters are putting way too much firepower into a ship that they're actually trying to let get away. Given the bombardment from all angles, they could've accidentally blown up the falcon. The other versions have several clips of the tie fighters orbiting around like space sharks, but not actually firing, which makes sense considering they're just supposed to be scaring the falcon. This is why Leia called the escape "easy." The Adywan is certainly the best looking version, but their spray pattern of gunfire by no means looked "easy" to evade. Now that said...ahem....I like the Adywan version the best!
I think the TIE fighters were told to not make it look like they're letting them go hence the heavy barrage to cover up their elaborate ruse OR They're just bad lol
My headcanon is the TIE fighters just happened to be there, unaware of any orders to let the Falcon escape. Seems unlikely TIE pilots would willingly let themselves die like that.
Look at the Stormtroopers: They also laid down a lot of fire and made sure to hit everything BUT them. People have made fun of it for years as if they were just incompetent... but the movie makes it abundantly clear that Vader wanted them to get away with a tracking device that was installed on their ship. So the heavy fire was to make it look good. Then you get to see Vader standing right there, and the dude sitting next to him is like: "I really would have preferred to just kill them, though. I hope they don't realize what we've done and your stupid plan works"? How much more obvious can an obvious plot point be?
It always bugged me that in the original film the Falcon just sat there. I understand they tried to make their WW2 bomber gunner's comparison and had limited technology to do it, but it just was weird to see a ship just slowly going in a straight line. It *could* of been made to make sense, if they'd of just added in a quick line of dialog from Han to Chewy. Something akin to "these ships are too fast for you to be pulling maneuvers. Chewy, level it off, let the deflectors do the work." Then he could of had his sly little, "hear me baby hold together" and you'd have a ticking clock element of will the shields hold out to add to the tension. But if fans are going to try and re-work the scene a bit, since they can't do much with dialog, actually have the Falcon do more than lumber along in a straight line adds a bit more to the action scene and makes it a tad more believable.
The Falcon flying over the forests on Yavin looks so much better in Adywan's. He changed the sky to fit the shadowing/lighting of the Falcon in front of the blue screen so it blended more smoothly. The color I'm sure helped too. And, adding the shadow on the trees under the Falcon is just wonderful.
That last TIE fighter explosion is probably the best explosion ever captured on film. We get to see the entire thing with no cutaways and its form is just perfect. I never tire of watching it.
Yeah, Adywan is what the Special Edition should have been just subtly improving the visual effects, but with the original version still available of course as well!
Absolutely fantastic! The different look of the TIE Fighter battle was epic! Seeing the blasts coming from the Falcon was awesome! It also bothered me with the scene of them in the cockpit during hyperspace and there’s no hyperspace effects but just normal space. Brilliant editing! Why didn’t George think of these small details when he’s been tinkering with it all. Ugh!
In today's new movie world, it's nice to see the Adywan version, personally. The additional effects modernize the film and gives it a LOT more punch for this space battle. Look, I love the original film. Hands down, it changed my life and got me into making movies. But Star Wars: A New Hope NEEDS new things added to it. It's the only film ( in movie history ) I can think of where you can continue to add new shots to it, which continues the intense mythological feel that Lucas was originally after.
The only downside to Adywan’s is that the stars visible in the windows make the Falcon look like it’s haphazardly spinning in circles. Stars don’t fly by like that when moving in a straight line.
I swear to God, If I had Adywan's versions, I'd literally go into iMovie and clip all the scenes from the Blu Ray and Adywan's to make the PERFECT Star Wars films.
I like the Revisited version the best. The picture is clearer, for example you can clearly see a lot more stars in the background of a lot of shots. The little added extras are cool too, like Adywan adds a few more TIE Fighters into the mix to give it more danger.
My only gripe was the stars moving. I get it, it's moving opposite direction to the millennium falcon's momentum, but in reality, the stars are too far to be moving. Even at light speed, they shouldn't even be moving if you could view them in real time.
The new display at 0:48 is really nice but it create the question of why all the other TIEs are fully rendered while the target one is two flat squares with a sphere in the middle.
Do you think you can upload the Adywan version of the Battle of Yavin in this form? I know you already uploaded it earlier in another video, but do you think you can put it up like in this video?
It wouldn't surprise me seeing the dedicated targeting computer system booting up for the guns with a splash screen on the monitor that says "Corellian Engineering Corporation AG-2G quad laser cannon targeting computer system. Initializing target display."
Adywan shots with the Falcon, this is top notch work, I'm surprised that George Lucas never thought to rethink this option when he made a remake of the movie. Congrats to Adywan, you win the Academy award for this scene!!!! Also they should've added in communication's with the tie fighter's too when they attack the Falcon.
I think Lucasfilm should hire both of these guys, work with George to make the definitive Specialized and Despecialized cuts and finally submit the movie to the library of congress. And maybe a little behind the scenes featurette on who Harmy and Adywan are and why they did what they did.
One mistake I have to point out with Adywan in these shots is how the stars in the background have been edited to move outside the cockpit to give the illusion of speed, where in reality, those stars are literally lightyears away and would only move with a rotational change in perspective, not linear directional, as they would have to be very close if they did, or you'd have to be moving VERY fast - it makes it seem like one of those cliche 'treadmill' background effects from horse riding in old Westerns.
After watching the Family Guy STar Wars special, I can't watch or listen to this scene without hearing Peter Griffin vocalizing the 'dun dun dun dun' bit.
Somebody let the Adywan guy know that when you are flying through space that the stars don't actually race past that fast. They would barely move if at all.
I really, really wish there was a combination movie of Adywan Revisited re edited scenes and the Specialized Edition. That would be the perfect Star Wars. Looks wise and logic scene progression wise.
Crazy the amount of people that think the Falcon was going slow or not moving for this. No guys. Space is big. Use your heads. Stars are really far away. You're not gonna pass them like that. It just makes it look like the Falcon is constantly spinning.
It's a question of whether or not you want to express the chase as a tactical skirmish, or put the ships in a role. Seeing the Falcon visibly fire back makes it seem capable and makes us ask the question, who will win? Seeing no red lasers means the Falcon is just trying to get away and is being attacked from all directions, the gunners trying to line up shots.
I don't feel one version is necessarily "better" than the other overall, but personally, I prefer Adywan's version the most. It just feels right to me. The Falcon firing back more gave the escape more intensity and urgency, though I'm not sure I agree with the editing of the sequence completely - I probably wouldn't have altered the second half of the escape as much, especially the last TIE approaching just before being destroyed, but it still works. He also fixed the one thing that always bothered me - the cockpit of the Falcon while in hyperspace has the blue-white tint I felt it should have had all along. I don't think anyone in 1977 would have thought that 43 years later, people would have the technology and ability to tweak and change the original. The Special Editions were George's way of making it as he thought it should be, but as we all know, not everyone agreed with some of the changes he made. Harmy and Adywan had very different goals with their respective work, and they're both excellent quality. Mainly, I'm thankful that George Lucas was kind enough to share his universe for us all to enjoy.
The only thing I don`t like are the additions to the targeting computers to the turrets. They are literally pointless. The circle is supposed to be the Millennium Falcon, and the grid squares are the effective field of view. When the turret aims at a certain point on the grid, that grid square is filled in. The blips flying around are the fighters on the radar. So why add the flying crosshairs?
I get it but the stars wouldn't really be moving around like that constantly if the ship were just traveling straightforward. They would be still, like in the original, because of how far away they are. Unless the ship was like making a constant turn during the entire battle.
Could anyone tell me how to contact with Adywan. This guy is a genius! And all his works are just fabulous. This is exactly the way how I used to imagine Star Wars battles before I watched the movies! Wonderful just wonderful!
Adywans look more natural color. love the additions too. Harmy I watched many times. He did a really great job too. In fact best I seen them, it is jsut I don't have a new hope in HD for adywan. I wish it was easier to get these and I want the RTN oof the jedi renewed.
Noticed Despecialized is sharper than either of the others with the the Falcon to Yavin 4:25 (especially the Falcon itself) however I like the extra brightness on the planet in Revisited and the stars in Despecialized just look like a pixel dropper randomly scattered em about :(
The only gripe I have with Adywan's (Amazing) edit is that his added Blaster bolts are not firing at the rate we see Luke and Han firing them at (Several small beams a second as opposed to just 2 beams every half second)
I always wondered why they weren't going into Hyperspace when Han and Leia are talking. Cause the film is saying that Yavin 4 is close to the Death Star, and why would they need a tracker to find them? I'm glad to see that point of view in stead of flying nowhere in space.
HELLO???? Vader said to Tarkin just before that scene that they "just made the jump into hyperspace." The fact that Lucas fucked that up and DIDN'T put it in the SE version boggles peoples' minds. It only makes perfect continuity sense. Everything Adywan did in these scenes are what Lucas SHOULD HAVE DONE for the SE versions. Lucas said the only reason he made the SE versions was because the SPFX technology had finally caught up with the story he really wanted to tell, he fucked up by adding shit that didn't need to be added and NOT fixing shit that needed fixing, like this.
Only thing I don't like about Adywan's edit in this particular sequence is the changes to the targeting computer for the turrets. Past that it feels far better thought out than the original.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but I actually like the extra Adywan shots with the Falcon speeding by while simultaneously firing back at the TIEs, rather than moving like a slow duck in the official cuts. It really compliments the perilous and exciting feel of this scene.
Yes, the Falcon always looked stationary and it made for poor logic if you're trying to escape.
+Adam Ohm Trust me its a Popular Opinion! :)
Agree completely. The whole scene was much more dynamic and made far more sense.
I especially loved the "exterior" shots that showed the Falcon's quad lasers firing back. In the original, you only see that once or twice, barely.
Adam Ohm I agree 100% but I still like the original as well
Dude. I totally agree with you
FINALLY! Showing the Falcon in hyperspace when Han and Leia are talking. Always annoyed me that they just had random stars in the special edition.
mngentry it doesn't make sense to me because it makes it seem like the distance between Yavin 4 and the Death Star is quite large when it doesn't appear that way in the film
the death star also jumps to Hyperspace to follow the Falcon.. its hyperspace capable.. clearly seen in Rogue One
@Swag_ Bag Not sure what you mean. The Death Star was in the Alderaan system. Yavin 4 is in another star system. It didn't appear near Yavin until later.

This is one of the best scenes Adywan altered.
Agreed, but you can't forget the Battle of Yavin act! 😁
Battle of Hoth was amazing
My favorite parts is the battle of Yavin 4, Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader and the hyperspace sequence in this
Did they do episode 6?
Despecialized: Acutal Footage

And that brings me to clnclude that George's special edtions of Star Wars And Jedi are mostly a discrace no matter what version it is
@@Ballowax If you want a true theatrical experience, watch Project 4K77
That moment when you finally realize you spent decades not noticing that the big fancy studio forgot to add half of the Falcon's blaster bolts in this scene.
Adywan's version is hands down the best fan cut of the film I've ever seen. I love the added shots not only in this sequence but especially in the Battle of Yavin with the extended Tie Fighter battle.
Love love LOVE the blue glow in the cockpit when going through hyperspace!
Remember Vader's exchange with Tarkin:

Adywan's Star Wars Revisited is what the Special Edition should have been!
I agree with you!

It’s canon to me
"Finally, the Special Edition the way it was MEANT to be experienced."
I LOVE how Adywan Revisited made an effect when the Falcon is moving in space during the TIE Fighter attack,
also added CGI shots and CGI explosions that were made from the prequel era trilogy, added a new shot of the Falcon exploring
on Hyperspace, including in all scenes showing the light speed background and the glow effects! I also love when he
added a new Digital shot of the Falcon jumping out of Hyperspace and the shots of Battle of Yavin’s arrival were played in a
different sequence! And last but not least is when he found an effect with the Falcon and added a shadow effect!
I LOVE YOU ADYWAN REVISITED!!! 😃😁
This Adywan Revisited version should have been in the 1997 special edition.
This scene is high up there as one of the best updates in Adywan’s version, but my favorite is correcting the lightsaber when Luke is training with the sphere droid. The original shots bug me so much, it’s actually soothing to watch them corrected.
Adywan's version is pretty interesting.
There's the understatement of the year.
Excellent! Cannot fault it. And I’m stunned to only just realise, after almost 45 years, that there were no Falcon laser blasts in the exterior sequences and no hyperspace effects in the cockpit. Bravo and thanks!
Revisited looks pretty good
The only problem I had with the Adywan version, is that it seems like the tie fighters are putting way too much firepower into a ship that they're actually trying to let get away. OR
They're just bad lol
My headcanon is the TIE fighters just happened to be there, unaware of any orders to let the Falcon escape.
Seems unlikely TIE pilots would willingly let themselves die like that.
The Falcon has really strong shields
Look at the Stormtroopers: They also laid down a lot of fire and made sure to hit everything BUT them. People have made fun of it for years as if they were just incompetent... but the movie makes it abundantly clear that Vader wanted them to get away with a tracking device that was installed on their ship. So the heavy fire was to make it look good.

It always bugged me that in the original film the Falcon just sat there. Adywan is by far the most inspirational fan editor, IMO. Simply amazing!

the final enemy always blows up the best
Adywan BY FAR is the best one!
I love how you can see the falcon lasers in the Revisited cut.
I still prefer the classic version over the others, but GOD DAMN, Adywan's version has some really good audio!!
Yeah, Adywan is what the Special Edition should have been just subtly improving the visual effects, but with the original version still available of course as well!
Happy 45th anniversary Star Wars.

My favorite part? He added that bar in the middle of the cockpit window!
I like the Adywan for the blacks and blueshift effect in the MF Cockpit. Prefered non-orange space explosions.
Am I the only one here that is having trouble with those gunner angles?
I’m obsessed with these re-edits Adywan has done such an amazing job!
The only downside to Adywan’s is that the stars visible in the windows make the Falcon look like it’s haphazardly spinning in circles. Stars don’t fly by like that when moving in a straight line.
The falcon is moving
It's also twisting to avoid being hit as that was the point of the scene in the first place
Adwyan is making the old movies look even more fantastic... Keep it up!
Wow man such subtle edits go a long way
Now THIS is a Tie Fighter Attack! :D
Glad you put the hyperspace in
Impresive! Most impresive!! you should release your own cut of the film!!! It would be just perfect
I've known of Adywans edit since 2008. Imagine waiting 11 years for ESB Revisited....
I swear to God, If I had Adywan's versions, I'd literally go into iMovie and clip all the scenes from the Blu Ray and Adywan's to make the PERFECT Star Wars films.
It seems I only watch Star Wars these days when a new fan edit comes out. Looks good :)
I like the Revisited version the best. The picture is clearer, for example you can clearly see a lot more stars in the background of a lot of shots. The little added extras are cool too, like Adywan adds a few more TIE Fighters into the mix to give it more danger.
and also makes the falcon go into hyperspace like tarkin described.

finally somebody added hyperspace. im surprised no one ever talks about that goof
Adywan revisited is the best of the 3, I say.
The new display at 0:48 is really nice but it create the question of why all the other TIEs are fully rendered while the target one is two flat squares with a sphere in the middle.
I think that might be the range the canon has.
It's hard to Believe that this iconic film debuted 45 years ago today.
Do you think you can upload the Adywan version of the Battle of Yavin in this form? I know you already uploaded it earlier in another video, but do you think you can put it up like in this video?
Por cierto. Han pasado 46 años desde el estreno y nunca se ha arreglado el error de las carlingas de los Cazas TIE.
"I got him, I got him, great kid, don't get cocky"
Aaaahhhh! Adywan gets it! Wow OMGoodness! Especially how they're getting away from the Tie Fighters and not standing still in space.
It wouldn't surprise me seeing the dedicated targeting computer system booting up for the guns with a splash screen on the monitor that says "Corellian Engineering Corporation AG-2G quad laser cannon targeting computer system. Initializing target display."
All these version of A New Hope's scene looks equally good.
Did he seriously change the background of the artoo shot from the Death Star to the falcon? That is some continuity dedication right there
I like the hyperspace effect and the color change related to it.
Good stuff :) Please keep Adywan's version from now on as it makes them far more interesting when comparing!
4:25
Ain’t gonna lie that it kinda scares me when the Falcons Thrusters roar like that, even when it’s blocking the screen😂😂
I've been Watching Adywan's Content since 2007. Its Very Impressive.
Leslie Nielsen pops in, "I just want to tell you both; good luck. We're all counting on you."
I can't watch this scene anymore without expecting to hear the Howie scream
I think Lucasfilm should hire both of these guys, work with George to make the definitive Specialized and Despecialized cuts and finally submit the movie to the library of congress. And maybe a little behind the scenes featurette on who Harmy and Adywan are and why they did what they did.
"Still... got a lot of spirit. What do ya think? Do you think a princess and a guy like me..."
"No!"
Harmy gave everyone jaundice.
Interesting.
Simply put, Adywan's Revisited Editions are a love letter to Star Wars.

Adywan Revisited And Harmy’s Despecialized Edition are two beautifully made projects.
I like the crispness of the bluray, the added action and colors of adywan.
Yeah, I know that they replaced the triangles with tie fighters, but that floating crosshair has literally no function. Its just there
+ Char Arno
I believed the floating crosshair is where that quad gun would actually hit
What is the Adywan Revisited version of Star Wars A New Hope?
I get it but the stars wouldn't really be moving around like that constantly if the ship were just traveling straightforward. They would be still, like in the original, because of how far away they are. Unless the ship was like making a constant turn during the entire battle.
Could anyone tell me how to contact with Adywan. This guy is a genius! And all his works are just fabulous. This is exactly the way how I used to imagine Star Wars battles before I watched the movies! Wonderful just wonderful!
I've been saying this for 40 years! Why were they not at light speed on their way to Yaavin?
Adywans look more natural color. love the additions too. Harmy I watched many times. He did a really great job too. In fact best I seen them, it is jsut I don't have a new hope in HD for adywan. I wish it was easier to get these and I want the RTN oof the jedi renewed.
At least Adywan corrected the background behind Artoo.
Where can i download Star Wars revisited in HD?
Noticed Despecialized is sharper than either of the others with the the Falcon to Yavin 4:25 (especially the Falcon itself) however I like the extra brightness on the planet in Revisited and the stars in Despecialized just look like a pixel dropper randomly scattered em about :(
Would be nice to have some interactive lighting in the cockpit while at warp, but that might be too big an ask.
Just cool!!!
GREAT JOB!!!!
The only gripe I have with Adywan's (Amazing) edit is that his added Blaster bolts are not firing at the rate we see Luke and Han firing them at (Several small beams a second as opposed to just 2 beams every half second)
Could you do a split screen battle of Hoth comparison video with Revisited?
I try.
i would love to see that
Adywans revisited purist A New Hope is the only version I watch.
Zeb: Welcome to Yavin 4.
Fixing the hyperspace continuity error was very nice. But the turret defense scene differences didn't seem to matter so much.
When Adywan gets back to ANHR in HD, I do hope he will include the effect of the Falcon coming out of Hyperspace too.... ;)
Same! :)
I finally found you. His Adywan, 2011 Blu-ray and Despecialized edition Battle of Yavin comparison
videos has been shutdown. :(
That's amazing
Only thing I don't like about Adywan's edit in this particular sequence is the changes to the targeting computer for the turrets. Past that it feels far better thought out than the original.
Dude imagine that scene become a arcade game
Everything the Revisited did is good except for the change for wireframe screen shots.
