Can you imagine being a 10 year old Hayden Christensen in like 1986 or so and watching this on a VHS tape and having no idea that you'd be in the ending scene some day when you're older. Crazy.
If I was him, I'd have wanted to tell George it would have been better to let me perform the scene for real instead of using BTS footage of me just standing there not knowing it's gonna be cut out and tacked on over Sebastian Shaw. I mean, they could totally do that now since Hayden is much closer to Anakin's age at the time of his death.

This is the true ending of Star Wars. There are no sequels, no loose ends. The story ends here. Palpatine and Vader are dead. Anakin Skywalker was redeemed and destroyed the Sith once and for all, fulfilling the prophecy as the Chosen One. The Empire has fallen, the Rebels have won. The Skywalkers go on to rebuild the Jedi.

Damn right! Glad I never even BOYHERED watching it! I’m done with this so-called “New Age” woke feminazi BS! Nothing but a waste of time and private investments! Old Star Wars FOREVER!!!
I don't mind Hayden being added, but this version feels the most natural, with everything added in being an improvement over the original version; especially the music.
All my problems disappear when I watch the beauty of this scene. I need to watch the movies again. My moms the huge fan and I don’t get into it as much cuz it’s her thing but it’s so good!!!
R.I.P James Earl Jones, David Prowse, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Kenny Baker, Sebastian Shaw, Richard Marquand, and George Carlin I miss James Earl Jones, David Prowse, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Kenny Baker, Sebastian Shaw, Richard Marquand, and George Carlin so much and The Force will always be with James Earl Jones, David Prowse, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Kenny Baker, Sebastian Shaw, Richard Marquand, and George Carlin. James Earl Jones along with David Prowse were both great with the villainous role of Darth Vader, Sebastian Shaw was brilliant as Old Anakin Skywalker, and Alec Guinness was excellent as Ben Kenobi. Carrie Fisher was amazing as Princess Leia, Kenny Baker as R2-D2 is my absolute favorite Star Wars droid character, and the Victory Celebration scenes in Return of the Jedi were enjoyable. I also really love both Richard Marquand and George Carlin. Richard Marquand was a very good director for Return of the Jedi, George Carlin was the greatest American comedian of all time, and Back in Town as well as You Are All Diseased from 1996 to 1999 are both George Carlin's best comedy routines.
The symbolism of Luke burning Vader’s Armor - a Jedi Master freeing a fallen Jedi Knight from a false exterior he hid behind for so long - and bringing him back to where he can once again stand beside his old Masters and Teachers without guilt or shame. Perfect.
My favourite version. The best music and of course the great Sebastian Shaw left in. My distinct memory of this from my childhood however is that the closing shot was on the Force Ghosts. I very clearly remember having never seen the group picture at the end before when I first watched the original version (which is the only one I watch now). Maybe I'm mistaken.
Definitely the definitive version of the ending. The music and added locations celebrating the end of Palpy, and Sebastian is still Force Ghost Anakin. If only they kept it that way 😢
You'd think that a rich organization like the Empire could have afforded to supply a flameproof (or at least flame-resistant) suit to its 2nd-in-command officer. Especially since the reason said officer needed the special suit was that he got burned so badly on the volcano planet of episode 3....
While I've never been a fan of unnecessary changes to art, I can usually accept it if A ) the original version is still available somehow and B ) the changes are sensible and not just made out of paranoia or pandering. That being said, I do like all three versions of the ending. I'm not against force ghost Hayden, it makes sense, but Sebastian Shaw put in a lot of effort and deserves to be seen, so I felt replacing him was unnecessary. This 1997 cut was the first version of the film I saw, as I was 6 when it was released, and I think I like this ending the most. The music the Ewoks play is more emotional than the original version imho, but I also like having Sebastian Shaw make an appearance with his body intact. Hits a good middle ground between the first cut and the last cut.
Yep...the mourning period for Palpatine...I'm not sure they make units of time small enough to measure how long that lasted if this clip is any indication.
The Most Obvious Thing About The Music at The Victory Celebration is That it’s Actually a Minor Key Version of The First Half of Baga’s Theme (Which is Also The Ending Theme of The 8th Episode of The 1st Season) from The Ewoks Cartoon. Take a Close Listen.
@@hunterolaughlin Victory Celebration Was Created and Recorded in 1997 For The Special Edition of RoTJ. While The Ewoks Cartoon Was Aired on ABC in 1985. “Yub Nub” Was The Original Victory Celebration.
This is the canonical ending. The sombre funeral of Anakin, the galaxy celebrating their freedom, Ewoks playing the drums on the helmets of imperials who, I assume, were violently beheaded. And who could forget Lando clapping?
I still prefer Yub Nub. This is definitely better music over all, but Yub Nub sounds so damn celebratory and conveys the absolute joy these characters feel in finally bringing down the Empire. The added scenes across the galaxy I can take or leave - it's fine, but the original is still great because it focuses in on these people we actually know.
Every Star Wars Fan: Every Special Edition Change Is Bad! George- Changes Music In The End Of ROTJ From Yub Nub To Victory Celebration Star Wars Fans: *That Is... Acceptable.*
@DanialProhozdenia Not all of the changes are inherently bad, just the fact that the original versions are not available in any official capacity. That being said, Victory Celebration is probably my personal favorite change.
Does anyone know if there’s an HD fan restoration of this version of the movie? I think I’d honestly put up with Jedi Rocks just to get what I consider the perfect ending to the Saga
Should have kept this version. Yeah, we all still have a soft spot for the Yub Nub ending, but this is also a good ending song to close out on. But most importantly, it's Sebastian Shaw at the end, not Hayden Christiansen. Feels far more natural, and it's not snubbing his legacy to the series.
Just one thing. I submit that Wedge Antilles should have been standing with “The Band of Heroes” at the end. He was in Chapters 4, 5 & 6. True, his total time “on screen” did not total 30 minutes but he was there in every battle and is the best X-Wing Pilot ever. He even surpasses Luke Skywalker as an X-Wing Pilot and Squadron Leader. And Wedge Antilles is the ONLY being who ever fought two Death Stars……and lived.

I wish the '97 versions were perserved along with every other version. I myself watched the dvd boxset of the 2006 limited editions so the ones I remember are the 2004 version and the GOUT version which was the one I watched the most and the one that I know the best it's "my version" after I discovered what was on the bonus disc, but I know my older cousins that their version was this '97 version and like the original version this too has been lost I feel. It's weird because I like watching the '97 version in context to the 90s even though I'm more of a purist because it's very much a product of it's time. I think my problem is that after The Phantom Menace came out is when they dropped the 'Special Edition" branding and began pretending like this is the way it always was. After the Prequels when more changes were made, they became a weird hodge podge because then it was a movie trilogy from the 70s and 80s which had digital early CGI effects added from the 90s then some inconsistent CGI touch-ups, weird sound mixing, magenta filtering, and prequel era additions in the 2000s. They have been ran through so many filters at this point that they just look weird and inconsistent. Like why was Jabba the only CGI model updated and not Sy Snoodles and the rest of the epanded Max Rebo Band, or the sarlacc or the low resolution Ronto that walks in front of the camera.
Also my favorite for having Shaw but also Victory Celebration. I don't mind Hayden tbh it's just nostalgia, but I _really_ do like Victory Celebration a lot more as a piece. I think the silver DVD set a few years later also had this same ending.
Return of the Jedi was never an ending for me Because there's still much work to do Rebellion needs to restore the Republic And Luke needs to rebuild the Jedi Order
@@YTWarrior100 Nothing. Just the de-aging is weird, especially if you're watching in release order. Also, Hayden did not perform for this scene specifically. They just stuck in footage from somewhere. Since Sebastian knew what he was performing for, the scene is more effective and genuine since he's specifically playing a guy who just returned to the light side and is smiling so proudly at his kids. If you're watching in chronological order, then Hayden works fine, but you know...he should still look a lot happier
This is probably the best version of the ending. Naboo and Hayden were unnecessary editions. Though I can understand an argument for it since George did paint himself into a corner quite a bit when he made the prequels, considering Vader was supposed to be 45 when he died. And Sebastian Shaw does not look 45 lol. In fact I'd bet that originally the Clone Wars were probably supposed to have taken place at least 10 years earlier than they did in canon. But attaching the end of the CW to the formation of the Empire as well as the births of Luke and Leia into a neat package for the sake of the movie REALLY forced the issue. And now we're just supposed to believe that Obi Wan died in his 50's and Anakin in his 40's :P
This was before the prequels. Back then Anakin was supposed to be older. Heck even when The Phantom Menace came out (and debatably Attack of the Clones), we didn't know how old Anakin was going to be when he turned to Darth Vader. It wasn't until Revenge of the Sith where they decided to make Anakin only 22 when he became Vader, and only 41-45 in the original trilogy. But before that most people thought he was much older in the original trilogy. Like maybe in his late 50s or 60s. Also Obi Wan was supposed to be older as well.
By far the best version of the ending. The added scenes of Cloud City, Mos Eisley, and Coruscant, Victory Celebration instead of Yub Nub, and Sebastian Shaw instead of Hayden, and really good quality to boot. Perfection.

Plus this version still has all the planets celebrating, but no Naboo with a bunch of Gungans. Truly peak.
The galaxy after hearing about the cancellation of The Acolyte!
I never watched the acolyte but I’ve heard awful things about
Damn right!
Glad I never even BOYHERED watching it!
I’m done with this so-called “New Age” woke feminazi BS!
Nothing but a waste of time and private investments!
Old Star Wars FOREVER!!!
Hell yeah
Kind of sad how Anakin was only free when he died 😢
I would rather see my father as a wise old man rather than a man who looks the same age as mine.
This is how it ends KK heroes victorious.
My dream : the despecialized original trilogy with the fan edit "SC 38 reimagined" and the 1997 ending... someone to edit this ? 🙄
And the emperor in episode 5
I don't mind Hayden being added, but this version feels the most natural, with everything added in being an improvement over the original version; especially the music.
All my problems disappear when I watch the beauty of this scene. I need to watch the movies again. My moms the huge fan and I don’t get into it as much cuz it’s her thing but it’s so good!!!

R.I.P James Earl Jones, David Prowse, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Kenny Baker, Sebastian Shaw, Richard Marquand, and George Carlin
I miss James Earl Jones, David Prowse, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Kenny Baker, Sebastian Shaw, Richard Marquand, and George Carlin so much and The Force will always be with James Earl Jones, David Prowse, Carrie Fisher, Alec Guinness, Kenny Baker, Sebastian Shaw, Richard Marquand, and George Carlin.
This is how it's supposed to end.
In my eyes, the perfect ending.
The se-squeals are not canon. They're just a fever dream.
Sorry bro. Like em or not, they're canon
not sure what that has to do with the video but ok
Agreed, they're garbage.
I just wish that they would've allowed actual fans to make them and treat the franchise with respect.
@@DavidTheMovieGuy Since they don't come from Lucas, no.
@@kantarelljulletjolahopp5607 That's not how canon works
Coruscant's first appearance
Wish I was there at that party! I’d love to get a big hug from one of those soft and cuddly ewoks!
Wasn't there a version with Hayden Christiansen released on dvd in 2004?

I love Hayden but he just doesn’t look right in this lol they should have left the original actor in
Love that Music. Better than Yub Nub.
@@hemiolaguy Good point! But I think the Emporer liked keeping Vader in a state of pain. His suit has been destroyed several times already

Wait? Does this mean Victory Celebration technically existed back in the 80s before the Special Editions?
@@hunterolaughlin Victory Celebration Was Created and Recorded in 1997 For The Special Edition of RoTJ. While The Ewoks Cartoon Was Aired on ABC in 1985. “Yub Nub” Was The Original Victory Celebration.
This is the canonical ending. The sombre funeral of Anakin, the galaxy celebrating their freedom, Ewoks playing the drums on the helmets of imperials who, I assume, were violently beheaded. And who could forget Lando clapping?
That final shot of all of them is so sad to me since you know how things end up for them
I still prefer Yub Nub. This is definitely better music over all, but Yub Nub sounds so damn celebratory and conveys the absolute joy these characters feel in finally bringing down the Empire. The added scenes across the galaxy I can take or leave - it's fine, but the original is still great because it focuses in on these people we actually know.
Love how they look like they're posing for a photo at the end there.
Every Star Wars Fan: Every Special Edition Change Is Bad!
George- Changes Music In The End Of ROTJ From Yub Nub To Victory Celebration
Star Wars Fans: *That Is...

2:46: I'm betting audiences cheered in the theater at this moment back in the 80s.
Little bears dance is hitting to my heart!!

Well guys that’s a wrap. Star Wars was great Show’s over and Disney did not make a sequel trilogy… right?

Besides EVERYTHING else, fireworks haven’t really advanced?
Also my favorite for having Shaw but also Victory Celebration. I don't mind Hayden tbh it's just nostalgia, but I _really_ do like Victory Celebration a lot more as a piece. I think the silver DVD set a few years later also had this same ending.

Sebastian Shaw is so much better than Hayden Christensen.
The fact that Hayden Christensen is now in Return Of The Jedi makes me want to stab my eyeballs out. Tied with "Jedi Rocks".
What's wrong with Hayden Christensen being in the film?
@@YTWarrior100this question shows you are a douche
@@YTWarrior100 Nothing. Just the de-aging is weird, especially if you're watching in release order. Also, Hayden did not perform for this scene specifically. They just stuck in footage from somewhere. Since Sebastian knew what he was performing for, the scene is more effective and genuine since he's specifically playing a guy who just returned to the light side and is smiling so proudly at his kids. If you're watching in chronological order, then Hayden works fine, but you know...he should still look a lot happier
I remembered that this movie is on Disney plus.
1:47 In the Nintendo videogame DONKEY KONG COUNTRY, they took those three houses too. This same scenario.
If the dozens of books wouldn’t exist, that would be definitely the true ending 😅
Remember that Disney have access to this and won’t put it out.
TBF when the original trilogy came out, Vader probably supposed to be older than 45.
LET’S GO
The new final..... Restored versión
