I'm so love these interviews and when people talk about the shepherd Malinois mixes. The Malinois is actually one of the few breeds that actually still hasn't opened stud book in The Working world where they can integrate not only Dutch Shepherd, but working line German Shepherd for some size and stability, and sometimes even American Pitbull Terrier, Mastiff, Great Dane, even collie, and breed back to Dutch/Mal. This is where you get those really large looking Malinois, with big heads, wide heads, and not narrow and snipey. Generally, Malinois do not top out over 60 65lbs. But these 80, 90, even 110 lb Mal's I've seen are really the results of this kind of breeding for size and out crossing. Then certain specimens that resemble the breed enough can receive FCI recognition and even AKC recognition. This is what keeps the Malinois such an incredibly healthy breed. But to be frank I wish they would call them what they are which is an x Shepherd basically. Also, I wish they would open up the stud book on the working German Shepherd and do the same. The GSD does not need size, but it does need improved diversity in genetics for better Health. It could also use a little bit more Drive in some of the lines.

I have a male and female and what Kenny said about female dog mentality is absolutely spot on. My female pit is literally the dog I would take into a bar fight with me. She would have my back. She's tenacious, wants to be with me, great prey drive, and wants to do anything that allows her to be involved. My male is lazy af and just wants to find a couch or blanket lol. (male Rhodesian Ridgeback, female pit/lab mix). The one counter I would say is that female dogs in my experience tend to be too independent for my taste in the sense that they don't buy into the "pack" like male dogs do. My Rhodesian ceded being the alpha when he was a puppy. Whenever I have foster Malinois the males tend to be easier for me to manage because they allow me to be the alpha. My female is always testing me, trying to be the alpha and I've had the same issue with other female dogs in the past so that's the one nuance I would offer male vs female, just in my experience.

Our male Belgian Malinois pushes the limits. He is active enough. He loves being outdoors and he likes rough play. This month he starts professional training. He belongs to my brother who owns 9 acres. His dog likes exploring and he would run all over the 9 acres if we let him but we like him within our sight. He is very smart.

I love watching your podcast, you always have awesome guests, Ken and Steve Stoops are my favourites by far because they are humble and relatable.
In regards to the differences between the dog gender, I heard a long time ago that if you have a dog of the opposite gender to you the bond is stronger or different than if it was the same.
This could just be anecdotal but when I’ve looked back on the dogs I’ve had it has held true, I’ve had a lot of dogs because I would take dogs that people were neglecting or just didn’t want, give them some basic training and turn them into good family dogs, then rehome them.
At the time we didn’t have a dog rescue, they would’ve gone to the pound and if their owner didn’t go get them they would be put down.
Thinking through my experience with these dogs and the ones I’ve kept as my forever dogs, I always had a great relationship with them regardless of any differences but there was definitely a difference between the genders.
All were/are very loyal, intelligent, and very loving but the males have been my shadow and just obsessed with me in a way that the females weren’t.
My females were very independent and happy to be with my family when I was away, whereas my males would get separation anxiety when I wasn’t around for short periods if I wasn’t onto it.
I find it to be a very interesting topic but I don’t think there’s been any proper studies done on it.

      Sorry but NO! 🤦‍♂️
They have never had a Pit bull in those movies. It is a American bully ocg a mix breed.
"Pitbull" is a short name for
      American Pitbull Terrier. Nothing else.
      As Amstaff is for
      American Staffordeshire Terrier.

My brother prefers male dogs. His dog is 18 months. He bought his before seeing the movie. He thought about getting another one but he and his wife do not want to go through the young puppy stage again. His dog goes everywhere with him and they do a lot together. It is his retirement dog.

I always thought my preference would be female but not after being around my brother's male Malinois. His dog has Dutch Shepherd in his lineage because he is brindle and he has a nicely shaped face and weighs 80 pds. People see him when we are out and always identify him as Malinois. He is from a lineage used in police work and his coloring is beautiful. In behavior he is pure Malinois. He is one of the very smart dog who pushes the limits and wants to do things his way but his Trainor is excited about working with him. His personality is pleasant and everyone falls in love with him. He can be stubborn though.

Honestly they can make John wick movies for as long as they want. It’s probably the only franchise that can have mindless gunfights/ fist fights and dog bites with a halfass story. as long as there’s no woke political nonsense, I can be still entertained by them

I see a lot of females that have much more tenacity and protective instinct. The problem is that many females have to deal with too much shit, and can become overly sensitive with time.
But a good balanced female is a force to reckon.
