Use the ignore white option in the advanced tracing panel.

adjust your tracing options until you get the desired vector shape - you can do this in the image tracing options panel.

Sonya Eury hi there - you need to make sure both shapes are selected. Both shapes must also be vectors.

What is the best material to make a pendant like this with a laser cutter?

Acrylic cuts the best - cleanest cuts. Otherwise any thin timber or plywood. Some plywoods dont work well because of their glue and some timbers also. Just experiment.

How does the laser cutter not cutout two different circles?

The tree intersects the inner circle and forms a new shape.

It does in fact, but the tree branches connected is what keeps everything one piece, otherwise the whole tree design will be cut off. In this case it is important to note that the branches are still one piece connected together.

Hey Sean - you can simply right click on text - create outlines - then you can use pathfinder tool to either join or subtract like any other shape.
